Mercwri will carefully examine the room, look to see if it might be easily observed from a nearby building, if there’s a room next door or across the hall, or both, from which a counter-ambushcade might be launched.
OCC What is the Inn construction like? Does the room have windows? Large, small? How far from street level? How climbable are the exterior walls? What are the dimensions of the room? What sorts of furniture are in the room? How many ways in or out?

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Randrak you settle in with a drink and keep your eyes and ears peeled. The atmosphere in here is subdued and what conversation you do manage to pick up is about the recent battle between the Baldenvelt legion and the Royal Legion.
Reggarn make a stealth check as you try to shield Grub from prying eyes. He takes what food is given and eats it greedily, sticking to you like glue.
Alanis find your teachers room unoccupied and after enquiring with the inn keep you are handed a note and a small pouch. The note reads :
Matters in the city grow worse and I have received troubling news from our friends Corellos. I must go there without delay or much of what I have worked for could go to ruin. I trust you are safe with your new companions and look forward to hearing all about your adventures when next we meet. In the meantime consider this an extended assignment to stretch your abilities. I know that you will not disappoint! Keep learning... everything and anything, and come find me when you are able. I have left something in the pouch to help you along.
Inside the pouch you find 20 gold coins and a familiar ring; a silver band with an amber stone, clasped in tiny silver hands. You pocket the items and head up to give Hitticus a hand. (Would you mind sending me a brief OOC note ref your teachers background for future use please).
Hitticus you head up to your rooms and start the work of setting traps for any unwary assailants. Describe what you are trying to do and roll a sleight of hand check with advantage due to the help from Alannis.
Mercwri, while Alanis and Hitticus set about their traps you survey the room and surroundings. The room is nothing special with one heavy wooden door and one large window that does not open. The window overlooks a large stone warehouse across the street and looking down you see that it is about a twenty foot drop to the cobbles below. You would consider the wall easy enough to climb. There are rooms either side of this one and three more across the hall. The room itself is roughly 20ft square with a large double bed and a chest for storage. Beside a chair by the window there are no other distinguishing features.
(Absolutely allowed) And the room is looking well protected. You consider that it would almost be a shame if Randrak were being paranoid and no assassins came now.
Reggarn after a few hours of trying to hide Grub from the general populous his fidgeting and messy eating proves too much for your nerves and after a close call with a bunch of drunken miners you decide it is time to go and Torvin makes arrangements with the bar keep to sneak you out back with Uldran.
The room is now prepared upstairs and those of you who are staying begin the nights watch in what ever manner you decide. I have Reggarn and Alanis heading over to the temple and Hitticus, Mercwri and Randrak staying at the temple. Dvori remains in the bar drinking quietly and arranges a separate room of his own at the back of the inn. He has become distant and quiet since arriving back in the City.
Reggarn and Alanis roll for stealth as you make your way out and across the to temple. Uldran has cast pass without a trace to add +10 to the roll.
Hitticus, Mercwri and Randrak how will you arrange yourselves back at the inn?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hitticus is going to hunker down under the bed with his shortsword drawn and on his chest. He's a rather light sleeper, so he's hoping that, if there isn't an ambush, that he can still rest.
He's going to try and predict a spot where the ambushers won't look.
Survival: 8
And then he attempts to hide there taking a risk by leaving his pack and armor at the foot of the bed, he then tries to stay quiet.
Mercwri will take a piton and press it firmly into a crack in the floor board in front of the door so that the door can not be fully opened, only enough to restrict the space so only one average sized creature could pass at a time. Then he'll spread out caltrops in a suitable pattern that will catch any rushing through the doorway. Loading his crossbow, he'll melt into the shadows in the darkest corner of the room.
"Should any attempt to surprise us, well let's just say we bite, hmm?"

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Alanis and Reggarn you make it to the temple with the goblin Grubb and Uldran in tow. The cleric Torvin ushers you inside and arranges for rooms. Is there anything you would like to achieve before settling in for the night?
The rest of you hunker down in the darkened room, surrounded by your traps. The evening passes into the small hours beyond midnight and as yet nothing seems amiss. You are all panicked at one point by footsteps at the door, but it turned out to be Dvori checking in and explaining that he would be leaving in the morning to return to his fathers estate. You say your goodbyes and calm your nerves as the inn returns to silence and darkness.
Alanis will try to calm her nerves by inspecting the ring her mentor left her.
(Using ritual casting detect magic and trying to remember what Madam Silriya told her about that ‘project’ of hers if she even did - and probably remembering, alongside her player, that one needs a costly pearl to cast Identify which she will keep an eye out for should they get the chance to buy equipment)
Otherwise she will keep Grub company should Reggarn need time to talk to the other clerics.
Reggarn will make sure that grub is safe in his room. He will then take Alanis up on keeping grub company while he goes to the main chamber to pray and ask Erathis for guidance on what to do with Grub and if peace with the Goblins is the right path to be on.
Hitticus will escort Dvori out of the inn, never want to be too careful.
For inn crew
Hitticus never seems to show back up during the night, those that have worked with him long know that he is a coward and not right in the head, but please assume what you will .
(DM: This will be my last post as Hitticus outside of OOC)
Grub looks around nervously, but excited by the fact he has yet to be murdered. In order to stay in character he keeps repeating "I am a dwarf, and I'm digging a hole" under his breath
The night creeps on to the early hours of the morning and even you Randrak are starting to think that there is nothing to worry about. Sleep threatens to steal you away and then...
CRACK! The door splinters open and a form crashes into the room. It immediately triggers several of your well places traps and you hear thuds and crunches as blades and other wicked instruments slam into the shadow. There is a sharp scream and a whimper and then the body falls to the ground with a thud.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Randrak hearing the crack, the scream, the sound of someone falling over realises that it would have woken him up. So he springs up from the bed and looks for the intruder. In the darkness of the room, he attempts to grapple the intruder in a choke hold to prevent the intruder from escaping.
(Perception: 17 if needed. Athletics for grapple: 8)

Hitticus is trying to set up some simple traps like tripwires, axe drops over doors and that sort of thing.
20
After the preparations are done, following a spontaneous idea, Alanis pulls out a copper coin.
She sorts through her alchemical supplies and finds a little vial with powder which she carefully sprinkles on the coin.
When she blows away the powder, the coin begins to emit the sound of even breathing.
(As per the ‘Magical Tinkering’ class feat if Hobs allows it)
Looking at Hitticus she asks:
”Do you think that would help the decoys or is this going over the top?”

"Keep it. That's good." Hitticus says with a smile at Alanis. There is a twinkle in his eye as they begin to water before he shakes away a memory

Yeah, I am gunna REALLY need that pass without a trace since I always have a disadvantage on stealth rolls. 24
