Hello. I'm starting another homebrew campaign since I can't seem to join any as a player :) This homebrew will take place in Faerun at the High Arcana Academy.
Nestled in a mountain range a day's travel on horse from the famed Baldur's Gate lies the High Arcana Academy. It is a somewhat reclusive, upper-crust school for the training of the next generation of mages in Faerun. Built into the mountain, its marbled campus takes almost an hour to walk from top to bottom. There is a section dedicated to each discipline of arcane practice: the Abjuration Wing, Evocation Wing, Necromancy Wing, etc. The Academy even trains a small contingent of Eldritch Knights.
It's fabled halls and libraries have made it known for miles around. Founded by Archimedes, it has stood against time for nearly 2 centuries. It is very respected until recently. 3 months ago, several bodies were discovered. They were found in ritualistic positions, like they were sacrificed to fuel an enchantment. The news quickly spread and drew the attention of the Council, a group of some of the most powerful mages on the planet. Their watchful eye has been over the Academy since. Several investigations have been launched, but they have discovered nothing.

Rudolph Cinderglow - Human v. (Mage slayer) - Warlock (The Celestial - tome) - Acolyte
There are paladins, and then there are the archons, magical adepts sworn to beings of the upper planes. Rudolph is such a being, and his charge is to seek out and destroy wicked abuses of magic with magic. When word came down of the sacrifices taking place in the High Arcana Academy, Rudolph went to investigate. He’s not sure what he’ll find, but he’s sure he’ll find the bottom of it. That said, he isn’t one to throw out the baby with the bath water, for Rudolph loves magic and all it’s amazing capabilities.

Character name: Lia Amakiir
Race: Half-Elf
Description: Lia mostly takes after her elven father, with pale, blue-tinged skin, light eyes, and a tall, willowy figure. The only feature inherited from her human mother is her dark hair, which is short and choppy. Though she's talkative around her friends, she doesn't like being the center of attention. She's incredibly sweet and hard-working, but isn't exactly the smartest, not compared to many of her classmates at the Academy.
Class and subclass, level 3: Warlock (The Fiend)
Background: Sage
Backstory: Lia fully intended to become a wizard. Both of her parents were, after all, and they expected her to follow in their footsteps. She struggled with the intense schooling they put her through, but her work paid off and she was eventually accepted into the High Arcana Academy. She suspected this was more due to her parents' connections than her own merit, but she wasn't complaining. Soon afterwards, she left home and began her studies to become a wizard.
Despite her best efforts, Lia couldn't cast a single one of the spells they attempted to teach her. That was, until one night, when she met him. He refused to tell her his name, only that he was a powerful entity who could grant her magic in return for... nothing. Yet. Though suspicious of his motives and fearing the day when he asked her to pay up, she accepted. He made good on his promise, and soon Lia had her teachers convinced that she was simply a slow learner, not fully incompetent. She still worries that she'll be discovered and kicked out, bringing shame to her family.
Description: Nearly 5 ft tall and bright blue as a result of magical mishaps, but otherwise with standard goblinoid features, beady little eyes, big ears and nose, and his personal hygiene leaves something to be desired.
Backstory: Grizzle is well aware that he's quite mad, he just doesn't let it bother him too much. He wasn't always mad, but then he didn't always have Big Magic. That only happened after he found his Smiley Bopper, a iron rod with a grinning face at the end. At first he only used it as a hitting stick, to keep the other goblins in line, but then he started being able to do Big Magic. His clan was able to use his Big Magic to ward off their enemies and grow strong. His Big Magic mostly happened how he wanted, but there were... mishaps. That's how he got so big (for a goblin) and bright blue. And there was that time that he blew up most of his village... and the other time... and the other time... by the next time, there wasn't a whole lot left of his village, and they decided that having Grizzle around to protect them was worse than no protection at all, and he was no longer welcome there. Which was fine by him, none of them appreciated how brilliant Grizzle was.
He lived by himself for a while, but eventually got bored of talking to the rocks and trees, they didn't make for a good audience for his Big Magic. Maybe he needed a trip, something to challenge him and his Big Magic. Maybe a way to learn how to make it even Bigger. This Academy place sounded interesting, maybe they could appreciate how amazing he is!

She learned all she could in her home village, but soon she had to move to the material plane to gain more experiences to write songs about. There she gained the attention of the Harpers thanks to her insistent investigativeness and natural curiocity. She has been working for them for a while now while traveling the lands spreading her music and learning all she can. Her latest job for them has lead her to the High Arcana Academy.

Name: Yu Zhong
Race: Black Dragonborn
Class: Barbarian, Path of the Wild Soul
Background: Outlander
Backstory: My tribe was murdered when I was 5. The tribe that is called Assorinase wanted our hunting ground but as my tribe was proud, they did not let them have it. Assorinase clan killed our tribe, the war lasted three bloody days, no one in my tribe was left alive, I was the only survivor. They slashed a huge gash down my chest, they thought I was dead but it didn't do as much damage as they thought it did. I crawled away in the dead of night after my parents were killed. As I looked back all I saw was dead bodies of friends and family and the dead faces of loved ones. I passed out in the forest from lack of blood. When I woke up my chest was covered in blood I bandaged it as best as I could.
After all of that, I ran as for I as I could away from that blood-soaked valley and the hated Assorinase Clan. I lived life scavenging for food and eating whatever I could. I learned the ways of the land and the ways of life in the wilderness.
Seven years later, the Head of the Illusionist wing saw me out in the wilderness when he was practicing with his students. He saw me as I was hunting a deer with a spear right at the forest nearby. I couldn't see him from where I was but he could barely see me in the corner of his eye. When everyone else had fallen asleep he went outside and walked all the way to the forest to were he last saw me. He wandered around for a couple minutes and then he found were my makeshift tent made out of animal skins was. He walked inside the tent. I woke up as he did so, he was the first person I had seen since my tribe was destroyed. I was startled and didn't know what to do. I asked him "Who are you?" In a startled voice. He just replied " Come with me. " I didn't know what else to it so I followed him.
When we arrived back at the High Arcane Academy, he said " This is you're new home. "

Character name: Valedane "Val" Hucrele
Race: Human
Description: generally likable, but spoiled noble. Still learning about the realities of the world. Gregarious and cheerful, looking for adventure, but naive about it.

(So, I know the first set of rolls doesn't quite make 75, but I think it sounds more fun. If I play, can I take that set instead?)
Class and subclass, level 3: Wizard, I'm leaving towards abjuration or divination
Background: noble
Backstory: Val Hucrele was born to a family rich from shipping contracts along the sword coast. Not much of a go getter, he initially intended to rely upon his family's wealth to keep him comfortable. He was not nearly as decadent as his siblings and cousins, mostly because he was too lazy, but this backfired on him as his family seemed to believe this made him the most likely of his generation to amount to anything and so shipped him off to boarding school at the High Arcana Academy where, to everyone's complete and utter surprise--his own most of all--he actually seemed to excel.
Name: Viren Valandar Race: Half-elf Description: (appearance) Viren is an olive-tone skinned, freckled half-elf with slightly pointed ears. He keeps his chocolate brown hair short and conservative, with minimal facial hair. He has a Roman nose and emerald green eyes. He's not too tall, and not very built either, but he has a good amount of muscle. He normally wears simple clothes, such as a light vest, cargo pants, and a belt. (personality) Viren usually meets with blank stares, due to him being deaf. He is patient and understanding. He secretly wishes people would take the time to help relieve his condition by communicating to him in a way he understands. He hates being the center of attention, and he doesn't care for popularity. Class: Bard (Lore) Background: Folk Hero Backstory: Viren is deaf. Always has been, always will be. Because of this affliction, no one really gave him a chance to succeed. However, he began hearing the world around him in music. An old teacher at the High Arcana Academy discovered Viren's talent, and brought him to take music lessons with her. Composing and performing music soon became his passion, and he began performing in taverns around the Forgotten Realms, earning a reputation for himself. As a part-time student at the High Arcana Academy and part-time performer, he would spend time dabbling in the magic arts, though he preferred his music lessons over all else. Eventually, he graduated and began performing full-time and professionally, using some of his magic arts learning to enhance his performances. Occasionally he would return to the High Arcana Academy to give tribute performances to the school, and while he was doing a certain performance, he received the news of the bodies found in the Academy. So he decided he wanted to do something about it.
Tall for an elf, Evu stands 5'4" and weighs about 135 lbs ,and she has a quiet, reclusive personality.
Ability scores: 121517161013
Circle of the lands (forest)
Background: Sage
Backstory: Evu was in fact enrolled in the academy before she left, not feeling the scholarly approach to magic. Naturally reclusive, she spent her time in the forests nearby, plying her craft and learning. Many years later she decided to return, hoping to pass her knowledge on to future generations.
Name: Aurora Sparks Race: Fire genasi Description: Usually an open book over her feelings. If she's happy, you know it (so clap your hands?), sad definitely going to be doing some brooding, angry oh yeah prepare for some heat baby. Her moods are quick to shift and generally very intense, though she does her best to work on controlling them. All around Aurora is a very intense person who tries hard to keep herself contained but isn't always the best at it. Standing at 5'7" with an ashen grey complexion, and eyes as fiery as her wild hair (though not actual fire) she dresses simply (as clothing tends to burn easy). Background: Outlander
Class: Druid (Circle of the Wildfire)
Backstory: Aurora was orphaned from a very young age, found amongst the destruction of a forest fire. The man who found her believed her to be a sign from the spirits. The fire had been deemed unnatural, started too quickly and barely spread before petering out leaving behind this child of flame. Taking her back to his clan they adopted her, teaching her the ways of the forest and nature's spirits and how they bring harmony to life. Even fire, bringing desolation and death with it, will pave the way or new life. It's a lesson Aurora has always taken to heart, and reminded herself of repeatedly when it feels like her own abilities and affinities tend to cause others pain. Fire is as much of a gift as water.
It wasn't any surprise when she befriended a fire spirit one day while searching for survivors after wildfire caused by a particularly violent storm. It appeared to her as an injured kitten caught beneath a fallen tree and nearly drowned in a puddle. She rescued it and nursed it back to health and once she had it revealed it's true nature to her, bestowing her with its gratitude and friendship. It often accompanies her now days, especially when she heads out on her own. The spirit has grown with her, now the size of a small predatory cat (think ocelot sized)
Unfortunately much like the fire she is born from her emotions tend to get the better of her, and her power flares up around her. So in an effort to learn control and balance she's made her way to the High Arcana Academy. If anyone can teach her self-discipline it's got to be a bunch of stuffy wizards, right?
"All will become equal now" | "Cause we're going to shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless. It's like we're carrying the weight of the world"
Description: Seraph can be described as the grumpy, old mentor except he isn't old. He is cautious, valuing cold and calculated moves over brute strength. If in a bad situation, he would do whatever it takes to come out on top. This blue and white dragonborn stands 5ft 9 inches tall and weighs 136 lbs. He has a lean but muscular build. He has blue scales on his head and arms and chest while the rest of his body and his knuckles have silver scales. He has small spike-like horns that stick out from the side of his chin and two long gazelle like horns in the back of his head. He wears a purple karate gi and full length orange pants worn under a black ornate loincloth. He has a slender silver tail that comes out from a hole in his pants. He wears a bone helmet which seems to be more ornamental than practical.
Class: Open Hand Monk 3
Background: Acolyte (Customized a bit by replacing Religion Proficiency with Perception proficiency
Backstory: Seraph Frostfang grew up in a monastery among many other orphans. There he grew up learning the use of tinker's tools, harnessing the power of ki and martial arts. Out of all his peers training in the monastery, he was 2nd best. However, there was a very considerable gap in skill between him and the best student. Many of his peers and his teachers always praised this student and was constantly saying how he would be the one to liberate their land from the tyrannical rule of an evil dragonborn king. The fact that the tyrannical king was from the Frostfang clan did not help Seraph's situation much. This often brought him the ire of his fellow students. The ignorance of teachers and the ire of the students finally reached a boiling point one day and so he left the monastery to seek out his own path, free from the baggage of being from the same clan as King Frostfang and out of the shadow of the top student at the monastery.
Not exactly sure what to do now that he is free from the monastery, he wandered the lands for a bit before coming to the High Magic Academy and joining as a teacher and teaching Athletics and unarmed combat to the student, basically being one of the academy's gym teachers. His past has made him grumpy and somewhat bitter. He is known as a strict and rough but otherwise a fair teacher and so isn't liked by most of the student body.
EDIT: Scrolling around a bit, seems like Seraph's the only character that isn't a caster of any kind lol. At least until now anyway.
EDIT2: Fixed some grammatical errors in backstory.

Background: Clan Crafter Backstory: Bolts was unearthed some time ago by the Academy's Archaeology Division. The war forged was inactive and placed in the Academy Museum and set there for years. It was one of the less scrupulous students that figured out how to use magic and activate the war forged, thinking she would suddenly have a bodyguard and assassin to do her bidding. What she got was Bolts, an intelligent warforged that was design to create and repair. What the young wizardess hated most was Bolts was so naive, he had no real understanding of the outside world and was extremely gullible. Frustrated the young wizardess abandoned the warforged for a new scheme, that eventually got her expelled. A Warforged running around the campus made a few of the mages uneasy and the matter was brought up in front of the Academy's Ruling Council. In an amazing display of self awareness, Bolts asked to be allowed to reside within the Academy walls and work as part of the staff. After much deliberation Bolts' request was granted and now he serves as repair staff and defense for the school.

You are right. I dont have to be.
Chronurgist wizard.
Background: Noble.
Backstory: The first thing Kell remembers was a knife. He woke in a soft bed, clutching a silver dagger with the letters K L engraved on it.He remembered nothing, but his age. Soon after, guards entered the room, and helped him to his feet. He remembered being taken into a large hall, and seeing A tall man sitting in a chair, next to a woman and her child. They told him that he may not remember his childhood, but he was now their son. Second in line to the throne of Halarahh. They didn't even give him a name, but he knew his initials. He fashioned them into a name....Kell. As a child, Kell was always treated differently. Not just because he was a prince, or that his skin was pale compared to the olive brown of his countrymen, but because of his eye. He was known, and often avoided if not feared by the palace staff, and even his own parents. As a result, he was forbidden from leaving the palace grounds.. His new brother, Rhy, was the only person who saw past that. Rhy was a statistic. The only crown prince in the history of the country to have no aptitude for magic. He was never scorned due to his parenthood, but he was as much of an outcast as Kell was. For the complete opposite reason. Kell was a prodigy. A master at his craft from a very young age, able to access complex spells that some masters took years to achieve. When Kell turned Seventeen, he started to ask questions about his history. Who were his real parents, why did he look different, and why was his eye black, but the only answer he was given was 'All in good time'. So he decided to find out himself. He was reading a book in the great Library, and his teacher had been long gone. Left to his own devices, he started to investigate. He searched for hours, and was about to give up when he found a scrap of paper hidden in an old spell-book. On it was a drawing of a man, with a one black eye, and a single word. Antari. Kell searched with renewed vigour, and finally found a book with a reference to the elusive Antari.
' ...The Antari are mages like no others. They can be recognized by their distinctive marker- one of their eyes are black. They are called Aven (blessed) by some, weapons by others and by some they are called cursed. Whatever the case, they are linked to the deepest of magics, and therefore powerful in the extreme. However, there most coveted gift is their dominion over time and space. It is widely viewed as evil, but some would kill to have such a power. it is closely linked to the magic of Dunamancy....'
Horrified by his discovery, he confronted The King and Queen. They confirmed his worst suspicions. He was Antari. And a powerful one at that. They had adopted him after he was cast out, and kept the secret from him for his own good. Now that he knew, the only way to stop him from hurting himself and others was to be trained. The one other surviving Antari was a professor at The academy of High Arcana Near Baldur's gate. There was a risk that he would be discovered, but the risk was outweighed by the danger of Kell remaining untrained. Kell left that very day, wearing an eyepatch to avoid suspicion. Not an hour after arriving, he was taken for questioning. Bodies had been discovered, and having just arrived, Kell was under scrutiny. After figuring out that he knew nothing, he was released to find the professor. When he found the man, he was surprised, His eyes were both green. The man seeing Kell's confusion, told him that one was glass, as his left had been carved out by his brother hen he was a baby. He started to train kell in the intricacies of the art, but each answer brought more questions, and soon three months had passed...

Name: Viren Valandar
Race: Half-elf
Description: (appearance) Viren is an olive-tone skinned, freckled half-elf with slightly pointed ears.
Class: Bard (Lore)
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory: Viren is deaf.

Name: Aurora Sparks
Race: Fire genasi
Description: Usually an open book over her feelings.

Character name: Seraph Frostfang
Race: Silver Dragonborn

Name: Bolts
Race: War Forged
Appearance: Bolts stands 6'1" and has a bronze metallic sheen to his constructed form.
Background: Clan Crafter
Backstory: Bolts was unearthed some time ago by the Academy's Archaeology Division.

Character name: Kell Ismyir
Race: Human
Description: Tall, dark haired and slim. Kell Looks pretty normal for a human, the only thing being off about him is his eyes. One is a deep blue, the other a pitch black. He wears a long leather coat.
Stats: Ability scores: 13 12 15 11 11 14
