At James' reminder for why they entered this accursed house, Dmitri shares a concerned look with Gillain. Dmitri says to the others over his shoulder, "I have grave concerns regarding anyone we meet in this accursed house, be they a child or not." He then leads the party alongside Gillain up the stairs to confront whatever has caused the disturbance, hoping it is not a monstrous or cursed child that must be lain to rest.
You climb the scarlet marble steps to its full height and come to a dusty balcony. The room is 15 ft. wide at the top of the balcony and extends to 20 ft. with a small 10 ft. long and 5 ft. wide alcove in the northeast corner of this room. There are several doors in this room.
Door #1 is along the west wall in the northwest corner of the room.
Door #2 is along the north wall and is in the northwest corner of the room.
Door #3 is a set of double mahogany doors along the east wall in the alcove.
And you can make out Door #4 along the west wall in the alcove.
Standing before you is another suit of armor standing along the north wall of this room. it is holding a two-handed sword in its hands.
Unlike the lower levels, this room is covered with a layer of dust. The dust does not look as if it has been disturbed for some time.
Dmitri stops short as they reach the balcony and see the heavily armed suit of armor. He separates himself from Gillain moving to the left to flank the armored suit. The memories and the marks of it's kindred still fresh in his mind and upon his face. Dmitri raises his shield to be ready to block any strikes and tightens his grip upon his found longsword from the parlor.
He pauses to allow the others to make the landing and keeps an eye on the armored suit and the various doors. He listens for any further sounds to indicate where the initial sound came from.
"I suppose so. Nobody ever put a room behind double doors that wasn't of some import," Bob says, eager to move toward the double doors and away from the suit of armor.
If the rest of the party doesn't object (and assuming the armor doesn’t attack them), Gillain will open the double-doors and look in... with her spear and shield at the ready...
The double doors to this room have dusty panes of stained glass set into them. The designs in the glass resemble windmills. The doors open to a 15 ft. wide x 25 ft. long room. This appears to be the master bedroom of this home. The room is dusty and filled with cobwebs.
There are 2 windows along the east wall, near the northeast corner of this room and both have Burgandy drapes covering them. In the northeast corner of the room sits an overstuffed chair.
A black marble fireplace sets along the north wall of this room. Above the fireplace hangs a large portrait of an older man dressed in a fine suit, sporting victorian mutton chops in the background, standing behind a high backed crimson upholstered chair. In the foreground, sitting in the chair is a young-looking woman dressed in a fine dress, her hair flowing down around her shoulders and wearing several pieces of jewelry. In front of the fireplace, on the floor, sits a rotting tiger-skin rug.
Along the west wall, just inside the room and to the groups left, sits a mahogany vanity with a large wood-framed mirror. A dusty padded chair sits in front of the vanity and a jewelry box sits on top of the vanity.
To the right of the party, along the west wall, approximately 8 ft. from the party is a door. The light reflects off the surface of the door, implying it is a mirror.
In the southwest corner of the room, to the right of the party, appears to be a small parlor, 10 ft. x 10 ft. In the middle of this small area stands a small table and 2 chairs. The table is coved with a dusty table cloth and a porcelain bowl and matching pitcher rest on top. Both chairs sit at an angle, chair 1 sitting in the southeast direction. Chair 2 is sitting at a northwest angle. Behind Chair 1 is a closed glass door. In the southwest corner of the parlor is a small door. Each of you assumes this is the door to the dumbwaiter you found on the first floor.
In the main part of the room, along the south wall, near the southeast corner, stands 2 wardrobes. Each wardrobe has 2 doors and the doors stand open. The light from the party shines in that direction revealing the emptiness of each save for the dust and cobwebs.
Taking up the southeast area of the room, the master bed, king-sized mahogany framed 4 post corner bed. The posts have a frame at the top and gossamer drapes run the length of each, creating a veil around the bed. The bed is covered with large quilted blankets of scarlet and gold with images embroidered into them. You can not tell what the images are at this distance. Behind the headboard of the bed, on the east wall of the room, is a large window with burgundy drapes.
Gillain moves into the room, slightly nostalgic as she approaches the four-poster bed... She trails her hand along the gossamer drapes as she walks around the bed, and attempts to get a closer look at the large quilted blankets and the images on them...
Dmitri stays at the rear of the party once more. He keeps an eye on the suit of armor and the room where his companions busy themselves looking for the source of the commotion.
Bob doesn't bother examining anything in the room just yet, instead turning his keen senses toward the source of the noise. He moves about, looking for any displaced furniture or anything that might have fallen and hit the ground.
Bob: Nothing seems out of place. It doesn't appear that anything has been moved in this room for some time judging the layer of dust and cobwebs that cover the furniture.
James and Ermren: Both James and Ermren move across the room to the glass door in the parlor. They see that it leads out to a balcony. Peering through the glass they can make out the same dreary overcast sky and dilapidated buildings that make up the small village you entered before coming into this house.
Gillain: Gillain moves to the area where the bed rests. Looking closely she discovers the bedding is covered in images of windmills. However, looking closer (Investigation 19) she sees other images in the cloth. Images of skeletons dancing, riding dead mounts, and making war. the sight of this is a little disturbing.
perception rolls from everyone along with their actions, please.
Gillain, once again, recoils a little from the imagery of skeletons dancing. She feels like dancing may never hold the same joy for her as it once did... Trying to compose herself a little, she moves over to examine the old tiger-skin rug. She'll look it over; check it for strange lumps and bumps; poke it once or twice with the tip of her spear; and if it seems mundane she'll peek underneath...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bob moves over to the vanity and begins going through drawers and such, trying to find anything of interest like a rummaging raccoon, caring little for the wealthy trappings of the homeowners.

“Should we head straight for the double-doors first?” Gillain asks the group. She makes her way over in that direction.
