Lazarus hadn't said much in the conversation with the Chief Overseer. As far as he saw, this was quite a simple task. Kill some slimes and earn some gold.
Yet, he was excited to hear that magic may be involved in this whole affair. He wanted to learn more about the indigenous sorceries of the Wilderness, as the invocations Mr. Demar had taught him originated from ancient books from far-away lands. But since Luxaene despises Imperials like him so much...he best settle for this secondary source of study instead.
"Let's go. The cover of night will be perfect for our mission."

The few of you follow the faintly lit trellises and stairways Southwards until you eventually climb down a set of stairs that lead to an outer gate, also made of trees. Since this area is still technically Zavas lands, no Imperial troops patrol at this hour, and you make it to the woods that also qualifies as makeshift farmland. Bees are quietly humming, dense thickets of mushrooms grow everywhere, and strangely colored fruits of different varieties grow on countless trees. A minute or so of traveling leads to you a jumbled array of treehouses that likely are what the Overseer meant to be the place to meet him at, but right now, no lights can be seen, and the area looks devoid of activity. Pushing onwards through a small dirt path, you get the feeling the farmers here know the woods to the point that they don't need maps, making it an interesting time to progress in the woods.
Any of you looking out for anything, make a Perception or Investigation check.
(Sorry, didn't catch that. I assume it's dim light?)
Lazarus absently-mindedly glances around as the group walks. He felt quite comfortable in the darkness. A smile creeps up on his face as he remembers his midnight grave-yard escapades from years prior.

Derek relies on the limited light presented by the magical lights set along the fields and the natural lighting of the moon and stars. Derek moves cautiously along with the others, straining to detect the slimes the foreman mentioned.
The bunch of you trudge through the forest, occasionally getting lost, but still sticking along the journey. Although it's in dim light which I forgot to mention in the original post (Thanks Razor), you collectively rolled high enough on perception to notice a strange stillness in the air. You notice the trees become more tacky and sticky to the touch, as if their sap is being sucked from them. Stopping for a moment allows you to notice a dense thicket of some fruit tree, and a distinct wobbling sound can be heard. About forty feet in front of you, there's a partially melted carcass of a dead deer, and surrounding it is a deep purple, jiggling mass of sludge! What do you do?
Lazarus thinks for a moment. He whispers, "Wait, I'm not sure if these creatures are capable of climbing. We should go up these trees and attack from a stronger position. Anyone have a rope?"
If the party agrees, he will climb up to a tree with line of sight to the slimes. Athletics: 13

Lazarus manages to climb the gnarly tree, using the roots and knots as handholds. He gets around fifteen feet up before a crowning of branches prevents him from getting further, but he's able to somewhat comfortably crouch on a branch ahead.
As you watch the slime jiggles along one side of the deer corpse and traverses across the body, letting itself melt the flesh. As it moves, you notice a faint, purple residue left where it travelled, and you deduce that you may be able to track where the slimes have moved. What do you do?
Derek makes note of the slimes trail. He holds up a hand to halt his companions. He turns to them and whispers, "Perhaps we can trail the slimes back to their source via their trail?"
"Do we want to take them all on at once? We don't know how many there are, and..." Hush looks at the decomposed and melted deer on the ground, "Too many of those might be problematic. I'm not entirely keen on my skin being melted off my bones. Kinda like it where it is, if you know what I mean."
Lazarus speaks up from his vantage point. "We should destroy this solitary slime first. The trail will already lead us to the others, and we won't have another chance like this."
If possible, the human will try to climb higher up the tree, trying to see where exactly the trail led.

Unfortunately, the Wizard isn’t quite able to traverse the thick upper branches of the tree. The forestation becomes notably thicker as you climb, making it difficult to progress any further.
The more perceptive of you notice what sounds to be a flicker of flame come from around sixty feet away, and a brief glow of purplish light can be seen through the thick trees. What do you do?
Hush and Lazarus slink closer to the flame, investigating the source of it. Hush, it's dark, but you can see the shadow of a figure dart across a few trees, heading away from you. As you approach, a slowly swelling and bulging mass of arcana seems to be formulating from nowhere - another slime is forming.
Making matters worse, the previous slime you encountered seems to be jiggling its way towards the center of the flame, and heads directly towards the two figures that have approached!
I would like everyone to roll initiative! There are two slimes - Hush and Lazarus are near the one that is still forming, and the other one is around thirty feet away. The rest of the party - Holden, Luxaene, and Derek - are somewhere in between the two.

Faint, magical lanterns still illuminate the area, along with luminescent mushrooms and moss that cover the area in enough light to see (dim light).

Holden readies his axe, prepared to lash out at a moments notice.
