This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Balthazar's curiosity is sparked by the tree, and he will step forward to begin a more thorough examination with whatever time he is allowed. Given the purported presence of ancient artifacts, he will be particularly vigilant for signs of ancient work or magical manipulation. (rolls below as needed)
"be careful. animals avoiding a place means danger."
Davril smiles, "I don't think they were avoiding the place. Seemed like they may have been living here and only attacked us as we intruded on their lair. On that note, does anyone see any puppies?"
Quin does not hear anyone on the other side of the door. As he approaches it, it is clear to the rogue that the door is not locked. It looks like someone or something previously busted the door open, with a hole visible in the door where the door knob would have been.
Near the tree, the vines are clearly twisted around the tree, but, also extend out from the tree toward the short distance to the Blokendrohl, hanging down in a loop, but, also appearing to be twisted around the trees in the forest. The trees do not appear to be uniform in the Blokendrohl, but, two things are unusual in the forest. The trees and shrubs are growing so densely in this area that there is no clear path for someone to enter the forest. In addition, all the leaves have black splotches in them like they are blighted. The leaves of the vines that are in the building do not contain the black splotches, while the leaves on the same vines that are twisted around the trees in the Blokendrohl do contain the black splotches. The tree growing inside the building is also lacking the black splotches.
There is nothing on the tree to indicate it is of an ancient age nor does he see any outward signs of magic having affected the tree. The tiles on the floor, however, probably are of an ancient age.
The birds that were in the tree all take flight as Balthazar and Lorgar approach it, but, they do not fly into the forest. Instead curving out and upward around the building edges. Once the birds have left, there are no other animals visible in the room.
Quin looks through the hole and finds he is looking down a short hallway with a door at the end of the hallway and doors on either side of the hallway. The floor of the hallway is covered with dust and litter.
From his spot near the door, Lukas doesn’t notice anything unusual or hear anything other than the movement of his comrades.
Upon hearing Balthazar’s and Davril’s questions, Vothrolo responds “No, they shouldn’t look sick like that. But, that is one of the mysteries of the forest. The trees look sick, but, the forest appears to thrive and continues to slowly spread. No one has come up with an explanation for that phenomenon. And, no, we won’t be going into the forest.” The half-elf says with a shudder. “It is not easy to find a way into the forest, and the people who do enter the forest usually don’t return. The few who have returned are mentally damaged.
"Well," Quiller shakes his head a bit. "Don't s'ppose we bes goin' inta the forest then, eh. Vothrolo, is there anything you might have remembered aboot what lies ahead? I means, any sorts o' tales 'r rumers?" As he asks, his eyes search the corpses of the dogs for any bolts. Approaching the northern door he will carefully search for any obvious opening mechanisms, oddly placed stones along the floor or wall.
Investigation 18
Assuming nothing leaps out at him, he'll continue his investigations of the door proper.
OCC Latching mechanism, lock, bolt or something else?
OCC After 37 'pages' of posts, Quiller is still lvl 1, is that correct or did I miss something?
Still looking for any signs of activity through his peep hole Quin chimes in, "Well poking around is kind of what I do best and we really should give this place a good once over. How about we just go room to room for a bit? I've got a couple more doors down a hallway here. What do you have over there Quiller?" He purposely raises his voice a bit hoping to illicit a reaction from anyone or thing that may be beyond the door.
Lorgar picks up one of the smaller stones among the rubble and casts the Light cantrip upon it, before moving up front and handing it to Quin. Lorgar whispers to him: "Toss this into the shadows should any of the rooms have dark corners. Whatever is left here after our encounter with the dogs is probably cunning enough to lay in wait to try and ambush us. Remain watchful, for I sense that we might be the ones who are beign stalked."
"Good idea, I appreciate it." Quin sheaths one of his daggers and takes the glowing rock. "Well lets see what's down here then. " Quin says just before opening the southern door. He flips the pebble down the hall aiming to put it in front of the first door on the left. He waits for a second and if no reaction or nothing appears he'll slip through the door and immediately press himself up against the lest side of the hall redrawing his dagger as he does.

Davril glances at the tree back in the forest, "I'm no expert, but are they supposed to look sick like that?"
"Not sure, but probably not. I hope we don't have to go in there. Do we?" He asks back to our wonderful patron.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
lukas looks around, ready for trouble.
(OCC: I've been wondering the same but didn't bring it up since we're not really in a good spot to level anyway.)
Quin relays what he sees to the rest then waits to see what Quiller finds before proceeding any further.

"we are employed at our scholar's discretion."
