Kayassa will mak we her way out of the place, deciding that by this point the charmed thug is not worth her trouble to deal with. If he tries to attack after the charm is done she will have no trouble blasting him away with her magic.
Duncan: The family continues to thank you, nodding as you reassure them. You can see though that they are obviously still very standoffish in regards to glasstaff, and make sure to always keep you between them and the wizard.
Though they seem nervous, the mother does still agree to help as best she can in regards to testifying against the wizard.
And as you begin walking back towards town, Orro and Kayassa come up out from the house. They have a tied up Redbrand, who’s charm has officially now worn off and now struggles against his bonds, but is still easy enough to transport.
On top of that, Kayassa carries a large statue, and is still being trailed by a small, scrawny goblin (who’s name you would have learned is Droop).
You would know that Glasstaff is most likely going to uncharm any second from now. Up until now, he has been lazily walking around, surveying the area, but with no obvious motive other than boredom.
Any final preparations before he uncharms? Someone will also need to clarify exactly how he has been tied up, because that can have some importance considering he is a spellcaster.
Also, here is a quick list of all the loot you acquired while in the dungeon. Feel free to split it however you like, and that can be discussed either here or via the OOC thread.
A satchel containing 2 potions and a clean set of ordinary travel clothing. One potion looks empty but feels as though it holds liquid while the other is a bubbly red liquid.
I believe some of you grabbed some beaver pelts. They looked to be of some value, and there were a total of 30 so feel free to do as you like with that.
There is also a small gold earring set with a tiny ruby, and two garnets.
Three bottles of unidentified alchemist supplies that you would also believe to have some value.
And lastly, Glasstaff’s glass staff which is obviously magical and could be used.
The total coin found as well is: 75 cp, 83 sp, 37 ep, and 77 gp.
Orro ties up his hands behind him, weaving some rope between fingers to mess with the kind of somatic spellcasting Orro is familiar with. Then he lightly gags the wizard. He runs a staff or stick through the crook of his elbows behind his back and the group can use it to move him along. He shows him the crossbow he will use to prod him along.
Kayassa was innocently holding her staff over the wizard's hand to break them if that was needed but shrugs as she lets Orro go about tying him up. As for the other Redbrand she moves him along with her staff, letting an eldritch blast fly over his shoulder harmlessly to keep him in line. "I am ready for a nap!"
The wizard, quickly and suddenly coming out of his charm, groans and struggles. You see him try to flex his fingers, but is prevented by the ropes, and any attempts at speech are muffled by the gag.
After that, I will assume that the party begins to make their way towards the Townmaster’s Hall, the main functioning body of what can only loosely be called Phandalin’s government.
It is about a 5 minute walk across town, in which, the party draws many stares. People notice your motley crew, and either dash away quickly, or whisper hurriedly to someone nearby. But quickly enough, you reach the hall:
The townmaster’s hall has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a bell tower at the back. Posted on a board next to the front door is a notice written in Common. It reads: “REWARD—Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of a mind to face the orc menace should inquire within.” The notice bears the town’s seal and an indecipherable signature.
Duncan notices the big REWARD notice, but doesn't stop to read the note, intent on pushing the wizard towards the town master, while the family stays safe behind, to ensure justice is found.
(By that, Sildar meant more of a metaphorical “camp”. His goal is to establish himself there, so more likely than not, you will see him inside, just not outside in a tent.)
Kayassa joins the others in making sure the wizard and captured redbrand keep moving. As they walk she will fiddle about with the staff from the captured wizard.
The party strides confidently into the grand building, followed quickly by the family and Droop. Entering, you come into a large room that appears to be a court of sorts. There are several doors at the back of the room that lead to what you would assume to be back rooms, and a small staircase on either end of the room also leads to a small second floor viewing area.
Two men stand in the middle of the room, conversing (though about what you can’t tell). One, you recognize as Sildar due to his noticeable paunch and graying hair. The other, also an older, plump man, is who you would believe to be Townmaster Harbin Wester.
As you enter, the two both look up, and at recognizing your group, Sildar gives a smile that quickly turns to a grimace of confusion at the sight of Glasstaff. The townmaster is also noticeably confused at your arrival, but you also see a note of fear in his expression.
“I-Iarno…?” Sildar calls out, which is met by a muffled attempt at words by the wizard.
"We found him among the redbrands that have been causing so much trouble. We tried to talk things out with them but most attacked us. He did the same but seemed important enough to bring here for questioning. While there we also found people kept in cells. As for why he is bound like this well he is a wizard..." Kayassa explained as she pushed the wizard towards Sildar.
Sildar continues to look confused, but soon after you push the wizard forward gives out an ironic laugh. “So, that where you were!” His gut bobs up and down as he continues. “I came here— to Phandalin that is— partly to look for my good friend Iarno Albrek. In fact, when I next talked to you folks, was going to ask for your help in the matter— pay you even. I would have never guessed he was the one running this whole Redbrand operation!”
The old man chuckles again, “Iarno, you sly fox!”
Upon hearing this news, the townmaster steps back, again visibly afraid. “G..g-get him out of here. As a p-powerful mage and l-l..leader of the Redbrands.” He manages to stammer out. “He has no place here!”
"Without justice the town will never trust you to keep them safe again." Duncan says, adding to Orro's statement. Pointing back to the family he adds, "These poor folks here were held against their will by this man. And that is likely not the worst of what he is responsible for. As the leader of their band, he must be made to face what he has done."
Sildar’s ironic smile quickly changes to a frown, even anger. “No… not here. Neverwinter would be the closest place where Iarno could possibly be tried for these… accusations.” He pauses, before continuing— very seriously now. “There is a jail of course… but for a wizard? I’m not sure I would feel comfortable keeping someone so powerful in these admittedly poor facilities.”
The townmaster frowns, but sadly gives a small nod of concession a second later.
Sildar then turns to him. “But yes, townmaster… what shall you do? As the leader of this town, how will you show these people— your people, that you care. That you will be the leader they need?” The old man has a small smile on his face, but it is almost unnoticeable.
“Ple-please just… get him out of here first!” The townmaster cries as he backs up. “I-I… I can’t think with him here.” He then turns to the family. “But yes… yes. Yes, I promise these people will pay for wronging you,” he says, but his conviction fizzles out quickly.
“If you provide horses, a cart, and a transport wage, we may be able to get him to Neverwinter for you.”Duncan says. “He must be made to face what he has done to this family and so many others in this town.”
Kayassa will mak we her way out of the place, deciding that by this point the charmed thug is not worth her trouble to deal with. If he tries to attack after the charm is done she will have no trouble blasting him away with her magic.
