At Rian's outburst, Nicholas would ask, "But can we even kill that thing? I mean it... it attacks your mind." He blanches and then gives an involuntary shiver at the memory of what he had been put through.

Syvis looks from Nicholas to Rian, unblinking. "Indeed. Ploopploopeen was all but destroyed within seconds and wasn't able to leave so much as a mark on the creature. The innocents of Sloobludop have as much hope, if not more, as do we of escaping since they are able to swim to relative safety. You decide your own course of action as your convictions dictate but I will be continuing on to Neverlight Grove and beyond without hesitation." She slumps to the floor of the canoe and rubs her sore shoulder.
Syvis: You would have recognized the Demogorgon as the Demogorgon— prince of demons. You would know that the Demogorgon is a foul and powerful entity that usually resides in a place called the Labyrinth in the Abyss. You would also realize that it is odd to see the lord of demons in the Underdark. This is serious stuff you’re dealing with.
Thodek sighs, "Lad, the ones who're going to die tonight will die no matter what we do. The only thing we can control is whether we'll be among the dead, or among the living who spread the warning to others. I won't make your choice for you, but I know what mine must be." And he continues to row away from the evil entity released upon these unsuspecting people, worried about what this might mean for the rest of the world.
Syvis lets out a held breath as she rotates her arm and stretches her neck. "It's as he says. That creature is none other than Demogorgon, the prince of demons. To face it is folly and certain doom. Nothing that any here could do would make a discernable difference for the fates of those in its path." She pauses for a moment, lost in though. "It is quite strange to see it in the Underdark, though, as its journeys from the Abyss are typically marked in history as cataclysmic events. We would do well to put as much distance between this boat and that creature as possible."
Voyage nods, her aspect hardened again after the momentary sorrow she displayed. "Aye. When we return to the surface, we can alert the muckety-mucks that that...thing is loose down here. But we're in no position to do a bloody thing about it now. I can get us close to the child's Grove." She changes the subject abruptly looking to Syvis. "But we're still going to have to do at least part of the journey on foot. And that's assume I can find a spot of friendly coastline near to the Grove. AND that there's nothing here on or in the Darklake that won't eat us 'afore we get there."
“Then I feel we must part ways,” Rian says stoically as he steps onto the docks of Sloobludop. “Lathander, gives me strength,” he then mutters under his breath as he clutches his holy symbol and draws his sword. He then begins to run off towards the screams of Kuo Toa and the Demogorgon. “I must redeem myself!” He yells. “This is for you,” Rian then murmurs quietly. “...Prudence.”
Rian has now left the party unless anyone would like to convince him to stay. Other than that, the rest of the NPCs are ready to go, so let me know if we are good to continue your escape from Sloobludop.
"Our young knight has made his decision, as foolhardy as it may be. We must leave at once, before the creature turns its attention this way."
Syvis closes her eyes and sighs quietly. "...and then there were ten."
Opening her eyes and regarding what's left of their group she says, "There is no clear course of success, as our captain has pointed out, however our course must needs be guided, for the moment, by getting young Stool to safety. If we are agreed, let us shove off and be gone from this shore while we still can."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Nicholas would reach out to grab hold of Rian in an attempt to persuade him one more time, "I do not think your God will want you to throw your life away. Grow stronger and then come back and make amends."

“I’m sure!” Rian says, emotion in his voice. “I’m... I’m not sure you may ever understand. I have sinned! I have done horrible, dark things! Lathander has taken pity on me. I must prove myself... redeem myself. And even if I perish in the process... death would be a welcomed release. Freedom from this eternal hell... freedom to see the woman I loved again.”
Nicholas, feel free to make a persuasion check to convince Rian to stay if you would still like to pursue this. Just know, he seems quite set in his ways.
"If you perish then you will have lost your chance at redemption. I doubt Lathander has spared you only to see you throw your life away. You talk about a woman you loved. Would displeasing Lathander further perhaps ensure your separation for eternity? As long as you live you have a chance of redemption, of making amends and maybe even bringing back the one you loved from the dead."

Rian looks to you Nicholas. “I thank you Nicholas... truly... but I have made my choice. One day, we may meet again, but for now I must leave. If anything, I will aid you in your escape by distracting the foul beast.” He then comes in closely for a hug, patting you on the back before looking towards the rest of the group. “You all have been a light in the eternal darkness of this place. I wish you luck in your future endeavors, and stay strong little one,” he says with a caring smile to Stool. “Goodbye,” Rian then continues with a sense of finality before drawing his sword and shield as he turns to run towards the ever closer crashing of the Demogorgon.
Rian has now left the party, if you have any final words, now would be the time. The rest of the group is ready to continue, so... what would you like to do?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Voyage nods and looks down at her feet, her tail standing very still. "May Valkur guide you on your journey. You're a braver sod than me." She busies herself scaninng the Darklake, looking on the horizon for any dangers to come.
The party pushes off from the docks of Sloobludop, two members less than before you came, seeing no danger in the vicinity. Slowly, the sounds of the Demogorgon’s wrath quiets as the party leaves the large cavern Sloobludop is located in, and ventures back into the narrow winding tunnels of the Darklake.
At this point the party has about half a days travel left before you need to rest. The boat you currently are using travels at 1 mph with just the current of the Darklake and 3 mph with people rowing. At 3 mph, a person can row for 4 hours (half a travel day) before gaining a level of exhaustion. Basically, the party needs two shift of rowers to continue at 3 mph throughout the entire day. Other than that, the rest of our travel rules will apply, just know that water will be more difficult to find as the water of the Darklake is undrinkable. Either Cailean will have to purify it or Thodek will create it. Food foraging will stay the same. Neverlight Grove is about 170 miles away, so we’ve got a long road ahead of us (Traveling at 3 mph every day for 8 hours would take about 7-8 days).
Additionally, everyone may level up to level 3!
For now, is there any RP anyone would like to do before we continue with the first half day or travel?
Syvis is happy to put in her time at the oar everyday.
Later that same day, Syvis maneuvers over next to Nicholas and speaks softly. "His mind was made up long before we met him. I could sense his heavy heart the moment we met in the cell. Lost souls such as Rian carry a burden with them that you and I cannot fathom. They tend to throw themselves into danger in self-destructive ways because they believe they deserve punishment as much as those they defend deserve to be saved. He made this decision as he has made every decision since the loss of his love: he happily ran toward danger because no one else would. Do not morn the loss of Rian. Rather, celebrate the heroism that somehow continues to exist within individuals like him despite the inherent attrition in a world full of peril and fear. For his memory we must persist and carry on in his absence. Do not let your mind wander overlong on sadness and despair when there is work left to be done."
She lightly places a hand on Nicholas' shoulder for a moment before silently retreating to her seat in the bow.
If I'm counting correctly, we have 10 in the party now so we should be able to subsist off of Thodek's water and Cailean's goodberries if/when needed.
