Alright, for simplicities sake, let’s just say Thodek completes the ritual and has made 100gp from the gold bar. You may distribute it as you please, but it is all ready.
After that, the party enters the small tavern. A blazing fire in a large hearth towards the back of the room is the first thing that catches your eye. It is stylized by stone carving to look like a blacksmith’s forge, and even from here you can feel the warmth it radiates.
The tavern area isn’t actually too large, and although there aren’t too many people inside, it looks to be at about max capacity. You get the idea that this is where people come in town after a hard days work. There is a bar, behind which stands a duergar woman cleaning glasses with a rag. A couple patrons sit at the bar, but the majority of others sit around at small tables, drinking and laughing. There is of note one table still available. It may be small but you could possible squeeze everyone around it.
Syvis nods to the lone open table. "Everyone should sit and rest for a moment. I'll enquire about rooms and a meal," she says matter-of-factly then walks toward the bar.
Standing at the bar, not leaning against it but standing straight with hands clasped in front of her (as usual), she hails the bartender.
"Greetings. My colleagues and I are in need of a place to stay for the night. Do you have rooms available? If there is food to spare, we could use a hot meal as well."
Thodek would have kept the gold for now, just in case he needs to transmute it into something else, but would be happy to pass it around to anyone who needs some.
The bartender greets you with a nod as she walks over. “You’d better believe we do,” she says with a professional smile. “Rooms and a hot meal— the best in Vin Badur if ye ask me. How many you looking to feed and house? We’ve got four rooms available, and plenty of grub if yer willin to wait a little. What are ye looking for?” She asks as she bends down to grab another mug to clean.
Syvis glances at the others over her shoulder before saying, "That is comforting to hear. We need rooms for ten travelers. We can share rooms as needed depending on how many your rooms can comfortably accommodate. Meals for nine."
“Eh, the rooms have got two cots a piece, but ye’ can fit more if ya really tried.” She says leaning in. “Rooms will be a gold a piece, and meals are 5 silver each. That’ll include our special of darklake fish and grits, and a flagon of Gracklstugh’s best imported ale. What ye thinkin’, that work? Ye got coin?” The bartender asks.
"Very well. One moment." Syvis turned and rejoins the group at the table.
"If we are to sleep comfortably with two to a room, it will cost 9 gold and 5 silver for rooms and food. Thodek, would you please pay the proprietor? I am certain we will all feel better and think more clearly once he have eaten."
Syvis takes a seat at the table and looks around at the rest of the patrons, trying to gauge if there were any reactions to their presence.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Thank you Thodek. I wish I could contribute to paying but as you know know my finances are pretty desolate," Nicholas would try to make light of the situation before he joins Syvis at the table. Knowing well that his presence probably sticks out more so than any of the others he scans the room in case of any sign unwanted attention.

Syvis and Nicholas: Looking around the tavern to gauge the reaction to your presence, it seems most people don’t really care. They may occasionally give you a glance or two, curious at the wide array of people in your group, but quickly look back to whatever they are doing as it is more interesting.
However, Syvis, you would notice something more. Towards one of the darker corner of the common area—next to the blazing hearth— you would occasionally see a figure flit in and out of sight that is staring directly at your group. You find it odd because normally you would be able to easily discern something like this, but something about the figure in the darkness you can’t quite put a finger on as they disappear and reappear from the room. It is difficult to tell exactly who or what this person may be, but they appear to be smoking a pipe from which large smoke trails lazily fill the surrounding area.
Once she returns from paying the bartender, Syvis leans in toward the center of the table and speaks in hushed tones. "Do not look but it appears we have an odd observer near the hearth. They may not wish to be seen but it is hard to be certain. Do you wish to engage them or attempt to ignore and hope they are harmless or at least only mildly curious?"
Thodek hands the coin over to Syvis, "I really should be keeping my head down, and talking to a tavern keeper doesn't really qualify for that. And don't worry about it Nicholas, I may be holding it, but as I see it, the coin belongs to us as group. We can all use it as we need to to escape this situation."
Syvis, you return to the bartender and hand over the coins. “Thank ye’ very much.” The woman’s says as she pockets the coins. As you leave, she taps your shoulder... “Hey, if you folks need anything— help or whatever, don’t hesitate to ask. You all are obviously... new to the area. We know it ain’t the nicest place around, but it’s home, and I know it well. Name’s Thorna.” The bartender finishes with a nod.
Thorna then hands over four keys each one ranging between the numbers 2-5. “You’ve got rooms 2-5 on the second floor,” she explains. “Can’t miss em’ because they’ve got the numbers carved all big and all on the door. Food and drink will be out in about 20 minutes. We’ll bring it over, so just try to relax; enjoy yourself.” Thorna says with a smile.
After that you would be able to return to the table and rejoin the group. What would you like to do?
Syvis gives a well-practiced, but still unnatural-looking, smile in return. "Syvis Galanodel. And thank you, Thorna. Hospitality given in someone's home is the next best thing to one's own home," she says before returning to the table and saying what I typed before.
(Thodek, you can add 1gp back in. I assumed we were getting 5 rooms.)
Catching the shadowy one's eye as she glances up again, Syvis takes a deep breath and gets up from the table.
"I suppose there is no reason to prolong this," she says under her breath as she makes her way to the fireplace.
"Greetings," she says to the pipe-smoking individual. "You are quite skilled at remaining seemingly effortlessly inconspicuous. However, your watchful gaze had caught my eye. May I help you or are you intentions to leer at my companions and me throughout the evening in anonimity?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the dark-ish elf walk up to him, Shishakli, a rock gnome dressed in comfortable clothing with a long beard, leans forward into the light of the room, now becoming mostly visible. Looking around the room, he quietly replies in undercommon, "You have a rather large eclectic group in tow. And don't seem to know you're way around. I've heard of a large group escaped from the drow only a couple tenday past. Quite an accomplishment. Might you have heard the same?"
Syvis' large, solid-silver eyes narrow ever-so-briefly at the thinly-veiled accusation and potential danger.
"I have not heard tales of such a group but that would seem to be quite an impressive feat, indeed. Have you an interest in finding such a gathering of...talented individuals?"
She takes a long moment to give the gnome a slow and careful assessment as he answers.
Deception...? (she isn't lying but she is trying to be misleading): 13
Leaning back into the darkness, the gnome again partially disappearing from sight for a second before taking a puff from his pipe as he tries to get a read on the elf. “Few have,”he begins, continuing in undercommon, “Word has not yet spread far of...their... escape. But if you know where to look and listen, the Dark tells many tales.” As he leans forward coming into the light again he is clearly looking past the elf and at her group, and adds, somehow capitalizing words with his voice when referring to the Underdark, “Traveling in the Dark can be perilous to those unfamiliar with It’s majesty, and your group is quite... mixed. From where are you coming? And to where do you head? Have you a guide?”
Since we tied on the check it’s hard to say which is successful... normally matching = beating it, but also normally you wouldn’t make the insight check before a deception~ and with your double nat 1 insight (1 in 400 chance!!!) you certainly can’t get a read on him :P
In her most outward display of expression since entering the tavern, Syvis chews her lip for a thoughtful moment before answering.
"We each come from our own places and have our own destinations. However, we travel together for safety and, at the present moment, strive to return one of our own to their home as they have recently taken ill and we lack the skill to restore them to health. As for guides...we guide ourselves such as we are able."
She glances over her shoulder to reassure herself of the group's proximity and continued safety.
"Have you knowledge of the way to Neverlight Grove? Are there temples of worship and divine healing along the way?"
"The Dark Itself is a temple if you wish it to be. And there are many natural fungi and herbs which can aid in healing if you know of them,"the gnome replies. "Neverlight Grove is a beautiful place, though rarely accessed by outsiders. I myself have only been there once before, and that neigh on a century past. The roads to there are not easy to find, and often more difficult to navigate. What takes you there? I see none of their kind in your group."
Seeing her glance back at her companions in worry he adds, "Fret not. They are safe here for now. And Thorna's dinner is actually quite tasty," as he gestures towards his empty plate.
