Dirk smiles broadly, hiding the moment of fear he had walking forward into the room. "All good. Let's move on." For his part, Oliver takes the first breath he has allowed himself in the past few minutes, seeing that his ally wasn't vaporized upon entering the room. He pats the blacksmith on the shoulder, whispering, "Ok, enough bravery for one day, no?" Louder he asks, "Where to next?"
If no one speaks up, Dirk begins moving back out the way they came toward the dangerous stairsteps and onward to area 1-5. Oliver will follow.
To get to AREA 1-5, you must pass through AREA 1-4
AREA 1-4
The stairs here level out at a crumbling stone landing about 8 feet square. A thick stone door, inscribed with odd shapes, leads into the natural rock you just came out of.
AREA 1-5
The stairs become progressively more worn as you approach the three-quarters point of the turn. Finally, there are only stubs and torn shards, leaving a 15 foot gap between the last stair and another landing. Like the two landings before it, this one has a solid door leading into the wall. Unlike the other two landings, it also has a pitted greenish-copper gong supportered on a stout wooden stake at the edge of the landing.
There's a few ways to get across:
DC10 climb check from a thief. DC16 Strength check from a running leap. Something else creative.
“Some of us might make it over there, but most of us are going to fall...” Wilma glances down. “A long way.” She nods back down to the previous landing. “Why don’t we check that door first?” (Assuming the door on the previous landing has not been checked yet.)
Hank judges the stairs and shrugs. “I can probably make it, but it would be really a bad day if I missed for some reason.”

There are three doors, one at 1-3, which you entered first, another one at 1-4 that you came OUT of, and there's one across the landing at 1-5. I can make a map when I get home that shows your pathing so far.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Red pulls out 15 feet of beautifully colored, exquisite fabric from his pack. He'll hold onto one end of it, and toss the other end over to Wilma. "Here, tie this to your chain, and help me over!"
Once the makeshift 'rope' is set up, he'll tie his end around his waist, and use it as a safety harness as he attempts to climb across the chasm.
Thief Climbing Skill vs. DC10: 8
(NOTE: if he passes, cool, if he fails, he doesn't go falling into the oblivion because his safety harness will catch him!)
After jumping up onto the wall, he fails to capture the very first hand-hold and immediately slips over the edge. After running out the entire length of safety line, he slams into the wall below. Calling up, "Ummmm, Wilma? A little help here? Pull me up!"
OOC: If I was a total *******, I'd say because of that nat1, your makeshift rope/safety line snaps at your waist and you go plummeting to your death. I really should. So very tempted.
Cresting the top of the precipice, a much-relieved Red crawls onto solid ground again. "Whew! Thanks Hank!" He then stands up, dusts himself off, and starts laughing at himself for his stupidity and misfortune. "Good thing I tied myself off there, as I really blew that climb." The nervous laughter continues until he manages to look around, and notice that Loki is no longer with us. "Where's brother Loki?"
Dirk rolls his eyes in a expressive toward Red, illustrating that Loki made an unexpected detour downward. He extends the eyeroll with an audible, "Splat!" before shrugging and turning to look what lies ahead. "We shouldn't dilly-dally."
Oliver nods, looking to and fro to make sure everyone else made it across.

Dirk taps his foot impatiently, then harrumphs for stepping back a few steps and running forward, leaping with a howl to cross the gap.

Oliver looks to the others, "Perhaps if we can get him one end of a rope or something, he can help us all get across one by one."

Oliver tosses his bow and quiver of arrows over to Dirk. “Don’t want to drop those when I jump,” he says. The boy then gets a head of steam and jumps.
