Samael sighed. "be warned, the tale is not a pleasant one. The tale of my binding.
It had been a simple year, tending the crops of a church of Azuth, for the knowledge seekers required sustenance, as do all mortal folk. Unfortunately, that same church had been used as a meeting ground for infernal and abyssal cults, held underground for symbolism. One fateful night, as I was resting, an abyssal cultist had encountered an infernal cultist, both scouting for their leaders. What made it worse that these cults, the Cult of the Ebon Hand (worshiping Gra'zzt) and the Cult of Dis Tower (often mocked for the name, I've heard, and worshiping Dispater). It came to a battle, with blades, spells, summons, the sacrifices they planned on making forgotten or used for summoning battle monsters.
I had awoken, to the sound of explosions below me and the guards rushing to the catacombs. As I was being herded out, an unfortunate circumstance occurred where Heaven's Light met Hell's fire and Abyss' Shade in one spot.
I awoke to fire around me, with me knocked to the ground. As I arose from my position, wounded but able to stand, a figure emerged from the wreckage. A jackal-like creature, standing like you or I, and dressed like us as well. It cursed in a language unknown to me, and foolishly, I began to walk towards it, as if to provide aid. It saw me, then smiled nastily, and in my head, I heard "You'll Do". and the Being from the lower Realms bound me to his service, to make sure his cabal's dealings were carried through and were profitable. I cannot say his name, for to do so is to summon him and his wrath. and he calls me to Work, I must Obey."
Samael exhaled "now you know. seek him not, for he always needs workers for his....Projects."
Horatio grins mirthlessly at the all too familiar tale. "I understand your position, friend. I too serve a lower master, though I do not think I must needs fear conscription by another denizen of the hells. Suffice to say, I am similarly called to do another's bidding, and, I must confess, I was not a victim in my transfiguration into what I am today, but an avid participant, already ensorcelled mind and spirit to complete a bloody ritual. But enough of such dark and dreary talk - I think, perhaps, that between our strengths in sorcery and cunning, we might find ways to appease our respective masters, and more. So beyond this small adventure, it might behoove us to work in tandem. Do you agree?"
Samael nods "Aye, for our survival, if nothing more." Samael is both comforted and discomforted by the fact that he is not alone, but he is with a willing participant.
Morn sees Horatio and Samael head off as they keep an eye on the surroundings (still on the river, but Clem says you'll reach the edge of the swam by this evening, if all goes well). You to spot a submerged snag and alert Clem enough in advance for the crew to alter course rapidly to go around it.
((Trinjya or anyone else attempting to eavesdrop on Samael and Horatio, give me a Stealth or Deception roll, and I'll take Perception checks from the two whisperers.))

Curious to see where Horatio and Samael headed off to, Sirq tries to follow them and potentially eavesdrop on their conversation as well. (Deception: 8) After listening in to their conversation, he'll see what work needs to be done on the ship.
Morn looks around the deck to see if there's anymore spots from the creatures the night before that need cleaning before heading over to Clem. "Anything else you might be able to tell us about these marshes? You seem well enough at home out here. Any knowledge you have would be most beneficial to our expedition."

Clem nods at Morn as he approaches. "I'm a riverman, like my Pa before me, and his Pa before him, but my Gran was a marshfolk. Odd bunch them, but if you know how to treat 'em, they'll treat you good right back. Hoping to do some trading with them once we get up there, if there're any that come see our camp, I'll introduce you lot, but if not, I'll show you how to signal you don't mean them ill, so if you run into some once you're in there they don't assume you're up to no good."
"All kinds of other stuff live in there, that's why I stick to the river, and let the marshfolk bring me what's worth trading. Keep your wits nearby, and if you end up spending a night in there, sleep off the ground or at least on as dry a patch as you can find. Might be able to hire a marshfolk guide for you if you're wanting."

Morn makes a note of the greeting to indicate no harm with the marsh folk. "Sound advice, thank you Clem. I'm glad we came across you before you left yesterday. You've been an invaluable source of knowledge and wisdom. I must confess that this is all quite new to me. I've spent my life as a simple craftsman and fortune-teller, but the taste of adventure got the better of me and now I worry I've gotten myself in over my head." He looks around to the others, "My only hope is that I don't let these other folk down or lead them down the wrong path."
"Well... I can't say as wandering into the Marsh is the best of paths, but you seem a capable lot... I'd ah... keep the two fire boys from doing that in front of any marshfolk. They're a superstitious lot.", Clem remarks not seeming to notice that he makes a sign to ward away unwanted attentions.

Sirq is deeply puzzled by Samael and Horatio's conversation. What kind of person would willingly make a deal with those of the Lower Planes? he thinks to himself. He doesn't care to bother them; he simply turns back to what he was doing.
Put your spoiler here.

Curious the secretive behaviour and a bit out of a habot, Trinjya tries to eavesdrop on the conversation Horatio and Samael are having.
