Kanlos would eagerly volunteer to be one of the first ashore, wanting to get off of these rough seas as quickly as possible. "There's a path, which means there were likely people of some kind here at some point. I wonder what they wanted with this tiny island."
Windlass summons her familiar, and sinks into the bird's mind, eyes going white. She sends them around the island, and getting close to the caves near the top of the stair. She will narrate what she/they see.
Littered with shipwrecks, the beach extends for 300 feet when the tide is out and 150 feet when the tide is in. On the beach there are roughly thirty vessels nearly intact but for holes in their hulls and many more remains of less fortunate ships.
caves
There are over two dozen caves in the cliff face accessible from the beach, some are shallow, while others extend a hundred meters or more.
Windlas
You have a 100 foot range of your connection with your familiar, so you cannot even have them scout past the beach, not until you land on the beach itself. What specificly are you having them look at, or will you simply have them 100 feet in front of you as you cross the beach?
Xerronios lays a restraining arm on the cleric's shoulder. "Allow me to inquire of the Lady of Fate, first." Sitting down, Xerronios murmurs the words necessary then casts the sticks of his augury. "Klothys, advise your servant. What will the outcome be if we venture to this island?"
Ah, you're right -- I think she can just send them out to do a loop and when they get back in range, telepathically communicate about what if anything they saw, right?
You get a definite Wheel response from your goddess. She definitely believes going to this island is a good idea for you.
Windlass
Yep that is the idea, you can send them out to do a larger loop, then get their response as they get back, or you can simply have them stay within 100 feet, keeping in contact as you travel along. What do you want them to do?
Io does not feel any compulsion to go on shore. Of course he would go if someone else from the party or if the ship's crew disembarks because he's the most heavily armored of the group but other than that he will stay on board the ship, worrying about losing his quarry.
The owl flies out and does a circle of the base of the mountain. It flies back to report that there are many caves in the mountain's lower sections. The owl did notice that some humans seem to be living in some of the caves near the path that winds up and towards the top of the mountain, living down near the bottom of that path. The owl would have also noticed a few very large crabs in some of the other caves. The owl did not go up further on the mountain yet,, but can do so if you wish them to do that next.
Canlos
Using your spyglass you do notice a few of the very large crabs scuttling around on the beach as well.

Xerronios pumps his friend for as much information as possible about the crab and tries hard to think if he ever heard or read anything about giant crabs.
Knowing something about normal crabs, you have a feeling these bigger ones are likely not to be too friendly.
Windlass
The owl flaps out again, following the path up to the top of the mountain. It then flaps back to you, taking a bit of time to do this. It lets Windlass know there is some platform about half-way up the mountain, that seems to lead to a large cave. At the top is another cave mouth, with a bad smell coming out of it.
"We do need to be careful of those big crabs," the Leonine bard says. "I'm not sure what they can do but they're likely to be aggressive and with their size, going to be dangerous."
Xerronios moves to the edge of the boat, trying to see, well, everything and anything.

Io brings the visor of his helmet down and gets ready to go on shore. It pays to have a heavily armored cleric be among the first to land.

Windlass sends out her owl for a loop around the island and hopes for a report upon return.
Anything you are doing as the owl flies around? Kanlos and Io, are you guys waiting for the owl to get back?
Kanlos will use his spyglass to search the shoreline, but that's it.

Windlass relays this information and then sends the owl back out for some reconnaissance of the top of the mountain.
Kanlos looks to the others, "If those crabs are dangerous, we should be careful landing a boat. Are they dangerous?"
Xerronios pumps his friend for as much information as possible about the crab and tries hard to think if he ever heard or read anything about giant crabs.

"This is a volcanic island, and hopefully dormant," Windlass relays to the group, as well as describing the platform midway up.
