"Well was there anything else that you would not normally see in the area? I doubt that what we fought last night is the only thing that can be a threat." Garcis says as he makes note that the hunters avoid the deeper part of the woods.
Edge: The man looks over at you and then to the boat you are pointing at, "That's Madenal's boat, no one has wanted to use it because he got sick, I've been meaning to pull it on shore and dumping the water out. He lives about ten houses to the left down that street. It's a smaller house with his surname Dyern on a plaque by the door."
Kanithar: The man nods at you, "Aye, the Ashenwood isn't a safe place, There's many a creature in there if the rumors are true, they just normally don't come calling though. As for Madenal though, he was a somber guy, bit of a loner for the most part. I don't know about habits, but his hobby was fishing. He always said he was the luckiest man in the world since his job was also his favorite pastime. The only place he hung out was the tavern, along with everyone else most nights."
Garcis: The huntsman nods at you, "There are nightmare creatures in the Ashenwood so it's been said. The tales say it's haunted, and I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't true. Darkness clings to that forest like nothing I've ever seen."
Kaseon moves off to look for the indicted house, but before going in turns to the others, "I'm going to ask the neighbors if they've seen anything suspicious around the house. Perhaps we should also look around the outside of it, there may be more footprints."
Moving up to the nearer of the neighbors, he'll knock politely on the door.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Edge pulls out the small piece of paper he found in the boat as they move along to find Madenal's house.
"Edge find this in boat," he says holding out the still damp piece of paper. "Edge think someone want secret talk with Madenal. Edge think maybe they meet at Madenal house."
He looks at the house once they're there.
"Maybe person Madenal meet make Madenal sick."
He looks around the road they're on to see which houses would have the best views of anyone entering or leaving Madenal's house. And then he moves around the sides and back of the house, looking for other doorways, keeping an eye out for footprints as Kaseon has requested.
Eve follows the party, as they move into the street where Madenal lived. Her tail whips a little behind her as she walks, and she instinctively stays close to Kanithar.
After a few of them reveal what they’ve found out, and after Edge shows everyone the paper and mentions that ‘a person’ might have made Madenal sick, Eve chips in with, “I was asking around... and it seems like there may have been ‘two strange monsters’ seen around town recently”.
She looks around the group, to gauge people’s reaction as she speaks, then continues, “One was the wereboar, that we already killed...... But there was another. Apparently there’s a man, that ‘flows like water’, to become another man”.
She lets that sink in a little, then says “And I hear that ‘not all that we meet can be trusted’...”.
Kaseon: An older woman comes to the door shortly after you knock. She looks at you and then at the others before asking, "Hello young man, may I help you?"
Edge: You walk around the house and see that another set of small houses are directly behind this one facing the opposite direction. There is one other doorway in the back that leads out to a small shared backyard.
Kanithar: You can easily make out the plaques on the doors of each house and find the correct one immediately. Testing the door, you find it unlocked as it swings open quietly on new well oiled hinges. You see the front room of the house which looks tidy and clean and two chairs sit opposite of each other with a table between them. Sitting on the table is a deck of cards, two drinking glasses and a pitcher of dark yellow liquid.
Walking near the back Senna moves her hands to put her hood over her hair to cover her features but as she grabs her hood she realises the group she is with and releases it again.
As Eve mentions the two creatures she replies Do you think someone else has magic like yours around here? To change their appearance like you did to become a townsperson this morning.
She looks worried. That would be troubling, it could be anyone then.
We should try and lure them out. But we still dont know why they are targetted. Maybe it was not about these four that have fallen ill. Perhaps they wish to target the entire town one by one.
Senna rambles a bit unsure of what possible situation they have found themselves in
Eve looks thoughtfully at Senna and replies slowly, “Hmm... the wereboar we fought, ‘changed’... from a boar, into that ‘thing’. And then did it change back to a person when it died? I don’t fully recall...”. Then she looks a little shy but says ” ...And yes, I can assume different appearances. It is just a silly trick really”, she says looking at her feet.
She thinks a bit... “But yes, it seems there are creatures that can change, and magics that achieve similar effects”.
”I think the lesson to take away from all this, is one of caution. It could be anyone... Just remember: ‘not all that we meet can be trusted’“. She gives Senna a shy smile.
"If I were able to procure a proper map if such a thing exists would you be able to mark areas where it would be best to avoid?" Garcis asks the hunter.
Kaseon gives the woman his best friendly smile and bows his head to her, "My apologies for disturbing you, my good woman, but my associates and I were curious about your neighbor. I'm sure by now you've heard about his illness and we're making the rounds to ensure no one else has been exposed. I wouldn't be too worried, it doesn't seem infectious, but you never know with these things. Can you think of any visitors he may have had lately? Or anyone who came after he was ill?" Leaning in slightly and lowering his voice conspiratorially with a suggestive wink, "Perhaps those who may have come late, or tried to avoid notice?"
After her brief conversation with Senna, Eve will catch up to Kanithar in the house. She sees him being careful, and wraps her tail around her body out of the way, and holds the slightly-arrow-tipped-end of it, up under her chin, in both hands. She peers left and right around the room, over her hands, with big wide eyes, and whispers to Kanithar, “Find anything?”.
When Kanithar mentions ‘company‘ and indicates the scene, Eve moves over to the table and kneels down by the drinks and cards. Still holding her tail out of the way, and without touching anything she looks close at the cards, then at the bottle and glasses. She sniffs everything...
@DM
((with her criminal background, can she tell what game they were playing, or if they were gambling? And can she smell anything fishy, like poison?))
Over her shoulder, to Kanithar, she says, “Yes, I feel like this is the last thing they did here before they got sick... ...If we can work out who was here with them, we’d at least have a decent lead to follow up!... hmmmm....”.
When he asks about the creatures, she stays kneeling, and he might see her head dip forward to her lap, for a second or two.
Then she scuttles around, on her knees, to face him and says, “You noticed huh?”. She looks a little shy, or embarrassed, or something. “I’ve always talked to animals growing up, if I was lonely one time or sad maybe... but recently, I kind of get the feeling I can understand them...”. She shakes her head like that’s impossible.
“The feeling I got from them, was there’s another monster in town: ‘A man thatflows like water’, to become another man”. She lets that sink in a little, then says “And I also hear that ‘not all that we meet can be trusted’...”.
She frowns and looks down like she almost doesn’t believe it now either. “It’s just silly... I...”. She shakes her head not looking at him.
Edge hops out of the boat and goes over to the group, near the boat being repaired and where some of the others are talking to the hunters.
"Boat repair man," he says to the man talking to Kanithar. "The boat by dock. The second one. Who claims that boat?"
He pauses and thinks about what was on the paper.
"And where boat owner live, please and many thank from Edge," Edge says.
