Ridley looks at her wolf and grins, "This is Judge, and he was a gift from my old mentor. We've been together for about five years now." She takes Judge's face in her hands and scratches from the sides up to his ears, then planting a big kiss on his forehead she turns back to you.
"How I got here though? I saw the wanted signs when I went back to Amn to visit my mentor a few months ago. Rough times had fallen on his people and I had promised to help in any way I could. So I decided to travel here to Rashemen and take the job. I was warned about the war going on beforehand, and it shows in the things I've seen. I went to Immilmar first to see the big city, and on my way here my carriage was attacked by some of the Tuigan Horde. They're barbarians and pretty tough, so it took me a bit to take them down. Did you get attacked on the way in as well?"
Kaseon: The overall mood from what you can tell is upbeat and happy with their current life in this new town. The conversations you overhear are fairly normal stuff, dealing with work life: Fishing, planting crops, and hunting near the bigger forests in the area. One of the hunters makes a claim he saw red glowing eyes in a small growth of trees across the river to the north, but night was growing near and he wasn't about to investigate that in the dark.
Kanithar: You manage to flag down one of the wait staff, a lovely young lady with blond hair and green eyes. She greets you with a genuine smile and nods and heads to the bar when you ask for more ale.
Senna will reply to captain Shaumar That sounds good, im sure the others would be interested in seeing what illness we are dealing with.
She will watch the others from afar as they interact with Ridley and ask the captain. How often do the Thayan attacks this place, or do you get wounded more often here? If they attacked Ridleys caravan they must be cutting off supplylines.
Kaseon moves over to rejoin the others, keeping what he overheard to himself for now. As the conversation moves to the attacks, he nervously looks around, "Are they really penetrating that far past the borders?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Edge moves closer to Judge, holding both of his furred hands out in front to let the big wolf smell them.
"Good boy, Judge," Edge says then returns his attention to Ridley to hear her answers to the questions. As is habit for him he listens very carefully and watches how she moves as she speaks. She seems earnest and open, but that is sometimes not always the case.
Garcis watches the rest of the group as they interact with the halfling ranger, his own eyes moving around the place to see if someone that looks like the mayor will be arriving soon. As he waits he will attempt to get a drink for himself but only if a barmaid happens to pass by him.
Eve: Ridley nods at you, "You're probably right, and just look at the size of some of you too, I wouldn't have attacked your carriage!" She giggles a bit at that for a moment before pondering your question about Illness. "I'm not really sure what to think about it to be honest, on one hand it's only a couple of people, but one of them has been sick for a few weeks with no change for the better. That's just a bit scary!"
Senna: Shaumar shakes his head as you and Kaseon finish speaking, looking around to make sure no one is listening, "Oh, no no no, they haven't attacked the town at all. They haven't made it this far in and thanks the gods for that bit of luck! It's true that the random band of trouble makers slip through the cracks once in a while, but that's about it. While a few rumors of the illness being part of an attack, it's not true. Outside forces have never made it to this town."
Edge: As you watch and listen to Ridley, you believe that while she is being intentionally vague about her mentor, everything else she has said has been with conviction and honesty.
Garcis: You see the young serving lady bring back several mugs of ale on a large platter and put them on the table nearest to Kanithar, seeing you looking she smiles and asks, "Is ale good for you, or do you fancy something else?"
All: The front door swings open and in steps a large muscular man slightly over six feet in height. As the crowd of people take notice of his entrance, they stop what they are doing and stand or sit quietly. He struggles to close the door only having one arm which is grasping several small bags, but finally succeeds and limps straight up to the bar where the bartender has just finished pouring a drink and places it down on the counter. Setting the bags down and taking the drink, he turns to the crowd and holds the drink up. "Never let it be said that the high and mighty Merchant's Guild could pull a fast one on the people of Melsamir, after intense negotiation, turns out they'll be coming to get our wares rather than us taking them. A promise I made you, and a promise I kept!" That said, he brings the drink up and tosses it back, draining the mug in a few quick seconds. With that, the crowd erupts into cheers and applause, chugging their drinks along with Mayor Hulmar.
“It’s not always size that counts!” says Eve to Ridley, with a grin, acknowledging both their size. “Maybe you could take us to see the patients though later? I’m guessing they’re not contagious? Are the awake? Talking?”.
"Ale is fine. I just need meat for my meal though as I seem to have no taste for vegetables." Garcis says, looking over the plants with a blank stare. He could eat them but they were seemingly bland without a lot of spices. He takes the ale and raises it as the townspeople do, sipping at it as they take a drink.
The kobold will leave the table to get closer to the mayor, nodding to those he passes. Once close enough he will scramble up to the bar. "You seem to know your way in negotiations. That is what I imagine is a good quality for a leader. But that is something I have little knowledge in so instead I wished to speak with you about the notice you put up. I and several others have come to take up the job."
Edge, satisfied that Ridley is telling the truth for the most part, backs out of the conversation as she is peppered with questions from the others. He will have to remember to bring up her mentor again if they run into her later.
He watches the people in the tavern drinking and eating and relaxing, carefully checking how close they sit to each other and how they hold their drinks. So different here, he thinks.
Then, like everyone else in the room, his attention is drawn to the mayor's grand entrance. He angles his way, spinning, stretching, ducking, weaving, and bobbing to make it across the room without coming into physical contact with any of the villagers.
He arrives just in time to hear the end of Garcis' statement to the mayor.
"Yes, yes, Garcis says true," Edge begins, though he becomes distracted after a moment and again angles his head to the side to get a better measure of how tall Garcis really is. "Edge and others come help. But everyone say no threat here. No enemy soldier. So Edge think mayor have different reason for want help. Yes?"
Senna will remain seated with the captain for now, letting the mayor get settled before being swarmed by all. Looking at the captain.. The mayor has seen his share of battle by the looks of it. Another retired soldier making his home in this town?
Has Senna seen any children around or just adults able to build a town up.

Kaseon watches the others surround the other recruit and then the mayor and decides he'd rather let his new allies get the official answers while he looks for some other opinions. Having spent much of his career in bars, he knows that bartenders and servers, particularly attractive ones, tend to hear all the best stories, he'll quickly cast unseen servant as a ritual and seek out the attractive server from earlier, "Excuse me, my lovely, let me help you out here a bit." He'll command the servant to take over for her for a bit, "There, now that you've got a little time on your hands, mind spending some of it with me? You must hear everything that happens in town. Anything you'd care to share with those here to help defend your lovely town and your oh-so-beautiful person?"
Kanithar/Eve: At the mention of Illness Ridley grimaces and accepts the drink from you and takes a long drink. "Oh, I wouldn't know anything about that. I left that to Imzel to figure out, I'm no doctor. You would have to bring that up with her or Shaumar. The mayor has been paying me to work with the hunters killing game around the Ashenwood Forest to the north. They won't go into the woods themselves, they consider it sacred as well as dangerous, but with the war going on, they have bent their rules and allow me to go in for hunting reasons and they bag anything I manage to scare out of the cover of the trees."
Senna: Shaumar nods at you, "Yes, most of us were retired before this town even began as an idea. We're not the first picks to be on the battle lines and holding the borders, but we were asked to do this. We gladly accepted to help alleviate the strain the bigger cities on the border have had. Mayor Hulmar was once the leader of the black bear lodge of Rashemi Berserkers, but he stepped down and retired after his injuries." (Senna has not seen any children since arriving in the town.)
Kaseon: The woman gasps as the unseen servant takes away her tray, but turns and smiles at your compliments, "You seem to be a practiced smooth talker, but I'm ok with that. One thing you haven't offered me yet is your name. Mine is Mellinae, pleased to meet anyone coming to help our town. What information are you seeking?"
Edge/Garcis: Mayor Hulmar nods and grins at you both, "Aye, I knew there were six new job takers that got off the carriages today. I already brought you lot some supplies. But let's get everyone together and talk at the same time so I don't have to repeat myself shall we?"
All: The Mayor limps over to Shaumar and sits at a large table nearby, he then motions you all to sit with him, "I'm glad you have all come in our time of need. I've brought you some supplies to start off with. Room and board is on the house and drinks are free, but you'll be getting paid handsomely as well. I may have specific jobs lined up for you here and there, but for the most part, defense of the town is what you are here for. Defense of the borders has been pretty much been kept up well, but there are small groups that occasionally slip through the cracks, and if they make it here, that's your priority over anything else. We have a whole town of people trying to prosper and the only defensive line is some old retirees and now, you. That said, yes, there is an illness that popped up a couple of weeks ago. It didn't seem to be contagious, but we are now up to three, and we've failed to find any kind of link between them. I'd like you to report to Imzel in the morning and get her version of it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. I'll take any questions you may have now."
He then hands each one of you a small bag that upon inspection has 25gp and two Potion of Healing for each of you.
Between chatting with Blaire and the Mayor coming in, Eve turns to face the fire (under the pretence of warming her hands, despite the weather).
She looks into the embers for a while, and watches what little flames flicker there. She looks back over her shoulder briefly to make sure everyone is occupied with the general hubbub of the tavern.
Then she whispers in to the flames “Ipkiss... ... psst... ...Ipkiss?.... ... if you’re there let me know..... I’m surrounded by strangers... They seem nice and all but I miss you... If you’re looking for me I’ll be here for a while, I think... My room is across the way there...” she waits a little while to see if her little imp friend responds, or if there’s any sign...
Garcis quickly takes the coins and potions, pocketing them away in his pack. He will look to the others as they all take in what the mayor tells them. "How often is there a need to defend the town from such attacks? Is this a regular occurrence that can be given an estimated schedule or is sporadic?"
Kaseon gives Mellinae his most charming smile, “My apologies, flower of the frontier, my name is Kaseon.” Hearing the mayor call for all of them to join them, he gives her a deeply saddened look, “It seems our time is cut short, the mayor summons his newest defenders and I must attend. But, with your gracious permission, I will return for whatever information you care to share? Perhaps when your shift is over? Until then, enjoy the rest while my magic assists in your own duties.”
He bows his head to her, admiring her beauty, and then joins the others at the mayor’s table, quickly taking his pouch and putting it away without looking. “In addition to the more experienced questions of my comrades, I think I have just two. Do we need to keep any kind of watch, or will your people keep watch and summon us if needed? And may we speak to the friends and family of the infected?”

”We weren’t attacked on the way here...”, she replies, “...but then we are a larger group. That might have put would-be attackers off...”.
”What are your thoughts on the illness that seems to be afflicting people around town?”.
