While Rushdi takes a closer look at the coffers, Mal goes to inspect the door that the group bypassed. Investigation: 2
Rushdi leans over the coffers looking carefully...... he knows that brazier radiated magic as well as the majority of the coffers...though only slightly. The second and fifth coffer seemed to contain the most magic. There was also a slight shimmer from underneath the door in the left wall.
Rushdis spell determines that the coffers themselves are completely mundane and it is the contents which are magical, but he cannot investigate them with the coffers locked.....he is about to turn away in frustration when he notes that although square in shape.....the cavity that seems to function as the lock has very slight indentations within at the base of the hollow......he frowns but a memory of the sundered corpses in the room they just came from sparks an idea...the slight indents look like the inverse of a human fingerbone joint.....
Mal determines that the door is swollen from moisture and quite smelly.....and little else.
Gajesh stays close to Rushdi as he goes to gather up the bones, his tail swaying back and fourth. "Would it be best to leave such things be? You said this place is cursed."
Rushdi holds up his hands helplessly. "I can't figure out how to get out, even. Everything down here is death. But it's the way through."
He starts putting knuckles in at random
Rushdi opens all 12 coffers, though a number of them require quite a few tries, and then regards the contents dubiously. The others watch from a safe distance just in case yet more danger lies within.
All the coffers seem to have contained at one time scrolls and tomes of various kinds but within eight of the coffers the contents have crumbled into ruin over the years. Of the other four:
- contains a scroll of black hide with silver Sanskriti glyphs.
- contains a large closed tome of blank red leather cover.
- within is a book with pages of beaten gold and a cover made of jade plates, written in the Sanskriti tongue
- a small withered fetus wrapped completely in gold leaf.
( Sure. The book with the red cover seems to contain some sort of magic.......and the fetus has an enchantment of sorts on it which tastes of evocation and necromancy. The other two volumes appear to be mundane....do you wish to peruse any of them?)

( Sorry...currently have Covid brain. In terms of the spell: -
-The red book is strongly necromantic and whatever magic it once possessed seem to have ' curdled' over time...it may not be safe to open.
-The other two tomes/scrolls are not magical in themselves but seem to contain alchemical and ritual information that seems to be though they will take some study.
- The Golden Child is a form of ' container' for a Toyol an undead servant that will act as a Familiar ( as per the Find Familiar spell). Toyol materialise as small slightly greenish toddlers with sharp needle like teeth....it will need occasional feeding from a drop of blood from its master. )
Mal tries the door - if it's locked, he'll use his thieves' tools to unlock it: dexterity + proficiency: 14
The door swings inwards loudly on rusted hinges....within Mal glimpses an austere room is matted with rotting pages of parchment, sheaves of them sticking to the humid walls and damp ceiling, ankle-deep drifts of them on the floor. A swollen Garunam corpse slumps against the wall on the far side of the room, his mouth full of parchment. A lacquered chest sits against the far wall.
Gajesh moves to grab the fetus thing, poking at it before moving to shove it down into his pack if no one else shows interest in it. With the way the eyes of the Lizard humanoid look it is hard to tell if he plans to use it for something or possibly save it for a snack.
Krikoris shrugs at Rushdi, "Fire cleanses most things, and if you get it hot enough, long enough, even stone will burn. Maybe when we're done here, you can convince your people to start the fire."
"I am happy for this to burn as long as we feel we have enough evidence. Are word may not be enough to sway the village if we are simply pointing fingers, especially seeing the temple will say we have broken into and defiled these crypts."

Rushdi cringes as he notices the shape of the coffee locks and goes to retrieve the corpse knucklebones to put into the coffers

Returning with a selection of dessicated hands it is easy enough to tear them down into ' keys'.
There are 12 coffers.
( DO you wish to go in any particular order or just open them all up randomly?)

Can I attempt to identify these items?

Krikoris moves to help Mal with the door, using his torch and control flames to try and dry the door out and make it easier to open or break through.

The door is certainly drier and not as swollen by the time you are done.
(I think he meant the spell identify)
Krikoris turns to Mal, “Maybe try and open it now.”

"Well... These are all horrid. If I knew how to dispose of them, I would." Rushdi holds the items between his fingers before dropping them.

Mal eyes the corpse with a wary eye, but goes over to inspect the lacquered chest - does it appear to be trapped?
