Silthras spends a moment taking in the scene, unmoving, his stomach churning. When he has seen enough he pulls back then moves up the stairs to his companions and describes the scene in hushed tones.
When he is done, he looks back down the stairs, "No sign of the creature, but there are rooms near the door, and there may be other exits I didn't see."
From his current position, he examines the stairs and the doorway looking for other places the creature might have gone, then turns back to his companions, again speaking in a whisper. "I could start a fire in there and see if it flushes anything out..."

Listening to this, Usul copies what he'd seen his friend do earlier, and [spell]prestidigitation;incenses[spell] a bandana around his neck, pulling it up over his face. He then readies his bow and looks to Velrya asking, "Have you ever heard of such a circle? The only summoning circles we saw in Mr. Kwiz' tower were nothing like that."((arcana 16))

Before Velyra goes down the steps, she will tap the knight's sword and cast Light, giving it a soft yellow glow.
Following the others down the steps, she grimaces as her feet touch the blood puddles. "I'm beginning to think the creature never made it down here...That paralysis it struck us with earlier, was that a spell? Could this thing be capable of high level magics?"
The thought makes her shudder, but she continues in with Usul. She peers briefly at the symbols, wondering if she had ever seen anything similar. "Let me think..." ((adv roll for helping Usul? 17)).
Next her eyes flash with electric sparks as she looks to the statues to see if they're any depictions she recognizes.

The basement is about 40ft x 35ft. The steps took you down into the ground quite a bit, the basement ceiling is surprisingly tall, at least 15 feet. The statues themselves are quite large as well, the central one hitting up to at least 10 feet. There do not appear to be other exits, as the other doors seem to lead to closets or storage rooms.
As Velyra and Usul stand next to the strange circular platform the corner, discussing arcane symbol meanings between themselves, a lightbulb suddenly goes off in the gnome's head. He had seen something like this before, just not in this context. The runes around the platform are strikingly similar to those you saw on the outer edges of teleportation circles used by Kwiz.
((I was going to tell Velyra to roll Religion with advantage, but that seems...moot.))
For the cleric of Sandail, the eight statues on the points of the sun are easily recognizable as the eight major deities of Evanciea. The central statue however, especially with its head smashed on the ground, is completely unknown to you. The entire display you find very strange, especially considering how the other deities seem to be almost bowing to the central figure. To your knowledge, and anyone you know really, there are only eight major divine powers in the pantheon, and none stand above the rest.
"Might as well get this over with..."Stepping into the basement himself with a now glowing sword, Kal will throw open both doors in sequence, burning a Divine Sense each time.
“This definitely doesn’t seem ok...”Usul says through his scented bandana, looking at the circle. “Should we try to destroy it?”Then nodding his head towards the bubbling black liquid, adds, “and...this... is really weird too...”
The topmost door is swung open, as Kal reaches out with his divine sense. The small closet is filled with crates in one corner, and a few closed linen sacks laying ontop. His sense picks up no creatures, nor does there appear to be anywhere in this room for something to hide. He is hit with a sickening sense of desecration however upon using his ability, giving the sense that this is the center of the desecration he's been feeling ever since using he started using his Divine Sense in town.
The lower door is much the same, though this storage room extends along the entire length of the basement. Once more, his Divine Sense picks up nothing save for the desecrated ground he's standing on. This room is stocked full of barrels, all of them sealed shut.
Given the size and intricacy of the statues, and carved golden sun symbol into the ground - you get the feeling the statues have been here since the beginning. The circular platform structure with arcane runes around it seems...Misplaced, like it was dropped in the first place that had room for it. The stone it is made of is dark and cracked, matching nothing else you've seen in the basement or the entire manor. You can also see fractures in the stone slabs making up the basement floor below it.
Silthras stares at the runes on the raised platform, his expression hardening as the realization sinks in, "This is not part of the original shrine...possibly it's how they attacked the town. We should check the rest of the room, then try sending something through. If that works, I say we send something explosive through and try to destroy the other ring. Then destroy this one. Destroying either or both may slow them down at least."
As he says this he quickly glances into the other rooms that Kal has opened, "But before we do that...we should check what's stored here...in case they are explosive...or useful otherwise...or...contain that creature"
Kal gestures inside the rooms, welcoming the others to investigate. "I'm not the best at finding things."He considers Silthras' plan, and slowly shakes his head. "I don't feel comfortable sending explosives through something where I'm not sure what's on the other end."
"For all we know that could drop you anywhere, maybe somewhere that's holding innocent people."

Silthras nods respectfully, but with a resigned smile, "I thought you might say that...". He turns to Usul, "I wonder if Dib might be able to reconnoiter? Assuming of course it sends him anywhere..."
With that he starts moving to the other rooms, "Velyra, perhaps we should investigate before much else is done?"

Usul nods, and holds a hand out for Dib to climb to from his shoulder. Whispering a few things to him in Gnomish, Dib twitches his whiskers a bit and turns towards the circle. Usul then lowers his hand, and Dib jumps off into the circle and scampers around a bit, avoiding any blood on the ground. If Dib disappears, Usul will count to five, enough time for Dib to look around, but hopefully not enough for anything to happen, and then summon him back and show him what he saw; if he doesn’t disappear, Usul still pops him back up to his shoulder after the same five count, since being on the floor is dirty and maybe dangerous. Once back on his shoulder Usul smiles, says a few encouraging words in Gnomish again, and gives him a small snack from inside his jacket.

((i think we only need an investigation check here...which, boy you nailed it lol. would a perception check do anything for us dm? if not, Velyra just guides3 and helps him)).
"Let's start with the barrels first, if we're lucky, maybe we'll hit the fine wine jackpot. Could certainly use it after a day like this."
Going into the bottom storage room full of barrels first, the pair first investigate those stacked in the corner immediately through the door. Cracking open a lid, they would find them filled with layers of straw and dark brown glass bottles filled with some liquid. They have no label on them.
Moving further into the room, to the much smaller barrels laying on their sides, they would find that these are indeed filled with different varieties of wine. Given the sheer volume and the amount of dust settled on some of these barrels, you estimate they've been sitting down here for a long time.
Into the northern room, you ply open a few of the crates. These are likewise filled with straw, but instead of bottles, you find a variety of what can only be described as artifacts of some kind, wrapped in protective paper. There's chunks of broken stone reliefs, the images or symbols carved into them almost entirely smoothed down. Clay and stone figurines, most missing limbs, heads, and chunks of torso. There are some pieces of pottery. You find pieces of jewelry - rings, chains, bracelets, all weathered almost beyond recognition. Oddly enough, to Velyra, someone who has been around these types of things most of her adult life...She can't even begin to guess the period they're from. The cultural styles of these artifacts are like nothing she's ever seen or heard of before.
The platform is comprised off two concentric circles. The larger one functions as a sort of base, and is the one with glowing arcane runes around its edges. The inner circle is slightly raised from the first, and has lines of arcane power running across from the "bowl" containing the bubbling to the sides of the outer ring. As Dib jumps onto the inner circle, the runes pulse bright, and the black liquid begins to almost boil. The runes reach a peak intensity and then flicker out, and the liquid goes still.
A few moments pass.
Suddenly, the inky blackness shoots from the platform like a miniature tidal wave, covering the small magical weasel completely before slopping back into its container. As the platform clears, the regular pulsating of the runes resume, and Dib is gone.
The five seconds pass, and then Usul dismisses the familiar back to its holding dimension before summoning him back into the basement. Telepathic images and feelings flow into the gnome's mind.
Where Dib went, it was incredibly dark. There was a singular light source, a soft blue glow at least a hundred feet away. It seemed to be coming from around a corner, and the small area illuminated around it was entirely rock. The place was devoid of any sound or movement, and underneath Dib's feet he felt rock. There was a slight stench of undeath, as if a group had moved through the area, but not recently.
Usul gives Dib some extra loving for going through the portal so bravely and then explains what was seen to the rest of the group. “It’s possible that goes to the mines...” he says, then looking around, adds, “Honestly, this room is much more creepy.”
Too dark to see the area around Dib. There was just a rocky tunnel visible via a soft light in the distance. Beneath his feet did feel like uneven rock though.

"But we don't know what's on the other side." Velyra says, joining the others around the platform. "Unless we want to find out?"
Silthras looks around the room, "My guess is nothing good is on the other side...sending some explosives is ... appealing"
Silthras looks more closely at the runes and statues...
