Bandit 2: "Yeah, yeah man. What ever you say, yeah there's nothing up there. We're just here"
Bandit 3: "Shut the **** up Lugo!"
Bandit 2: "Nah, **** you man! I didn't sign up for this shit. Wake up and Bruce is ******* half dead? Bruce!? Nah, I'm done. I'm out of here. Listen man, nothing up ahead, just us here. Set up here and rolled a couple people over the last couple days. That's it."
Bandit 3: "You're gonna pay for this, shitbag."
Bandit 4 "..." continues to glower. Not phased by losing the dagger.
"So if we believe Lugo here, and I do, they aren't part of some bandit army so do we, kill them, leave them here tied to the tree or do we march the buggers all the way to Brogg, so they can probably execute them for banditry?" Kaemar looks around at the others, "to be honest you all seem kinder souls than me, what do you want to do?"
"I'm a firm believer in retribution when deserved... poetic justice if you will. If they've stolen - then we strip them of everything and let them attempt to survive.... If they've killed - well......"
Louis' voice trails off.
Louis begins to look around for evidence of prior victims.... PERCEPTION (subtract 1 if investigation) 24
At first You don’t see signs of a fight on the area other than yours. Whoever these bandits were they appear to have primarily been focused on robbery.
Then you notice in the distance a red stain on a tree and a shoe sticking out from behind the base of another Tree.
The angle of the setting sun is revealing other previously shadowed areas. But it reminds you as well that time is short.
Merrick, seeing the shoe, heads over to investigate. Aware of potential dangers he attempts to be hidden and stealthy, as halflings can be when they don't want to be seen or heard.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Ok Lugo, you seem the most sensible one here, how about you explain the mark on the tree before anyone does anything silly, like kill you all for the poor people you have terrorised to sleep easier in their beds again.."
Merrick is unhappy. He brings back a child's shoe to show his new companions. He then addresses the bandits. "Now look here. I told you I understand taking the occasional caravan for a ride, cutting a few purse strings. But I see children's shoes here. Something happened here, and I want to know what. Don't tell me you know nothing, this happened right here."
Lugo: “it’s nothing like that man. Just some red paint. We call ourselves the red bandits! It was to stoke fear and what not. But that a all over now. Yeah I know it was shitty but we didn’t hurt no one. Groups of people come by we stop them and grab their stuff toss it behind the tree. Most of those people are probably just embarrassed because they had to walk shoeless onto Brogg. Come on man, let me go.”
bandit 3: “World if hurt comin down on you, man. Everyone you ever known is gonna die horrible for this. “
You slam the butt into his nose maybe a little harder than intended. It breaks and starts gushing blood. He start choking on blood. After a few seconds you realize you've severed something vital and he's bleeding to death. In another minute he'll be dead.
Lugo: "Oh ****! ****! ****! Perkins! Come one, man wake up."
Bandit 4 starts to struggle a against the ropes and muttering something.
Oh come on, why be a bandit if you can't take one little hit! Louis can you help this guy, I'd rather not see Lugo here so upset. And as for you knifey boy, don't move and I won't have any reason to nearly kill you while making a point.."

Listening to Lugo's explanation, Louis tries to decipher if he's being truthful about letting their victims live but walk shoe-less and embarrassed into Brogg. ( Insight 25
Watching Kaemer clock Perkins, Louis's eyes widen slightly, but is otherwise unmoved, stepping up to him he gives him a look over to see if he can stabilize the wound ( Medicine 14 ), saying, "Stop struggling Perkins, I need to see that wound." Then looking back at Kaemer, says, "I'd rather not burn a spell on this guy, but if I have to, I guess I will."
Hearing the fourth nameless bandit mutter, Louis tries to hear what he's saying as he was working on Perkins. ( Perception 13 )
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Listening, Louis here's a desperation in the tone and cadence of Lugo's pleading. Seems Lugo will say anything to get out of this situation alive.
Leaning in Louis tilts Perkins' head forward and to the side trying to decreen what's broken. His breathing has stopped and his pulse is weak.
In that moment, between the concern for the dying and the curiosity about the mumbling, Louis leans in to close and Bandit 4 lashes out and tries to bite Louis.
Attack: 2
Damage: 4
Bandits 4's jaws snap shut with enough force to crack multiple teeth, but the ropes hold him back enough for Louis to jump clear.
Louis, reacting to the bandit's bite, backhands the bandit's face with his gauntleted hand. (Attack 20 Damage 4).
"Kaemer, I don't think you should've clocked this fellow restrained without provocation, but I get the feeling that they did more than rob their victims. So, I no longer feel compelled to heal this individual. They did wrong this one faced his judgment early."
Pausing...
"Let's take them to Brogg. Let them face their judgment there. Bring all the evidence that Merrick noted. Someone, peel that bark with the red mark off and bring it with us, perhaps there's more to it than it seems. Someone in town may know more."
"I think he provoked me enough with his banditry and foul language but I'll take your point this time, I do tend to get a bit carried away, especially when it comes to terrorising innocent folks though. Scum like these would have had some fun with anyone they caught out here, who knows how much people suffered so they could get their rocks off"
To take herself away from the rest of the group, as she does feel guilt that she has acted without thought to consequences, Kaemar goes over to the tree and studies the mark, before attempting to remove it she studies it to see if she recognises it or if it looks magical in any way.

Afterwards she attempts to cut away the bark with a knife and stows it away in her pack, carefully.
The mark is vaguely familiar but you can't quite place it. Something from far in your past but covered with years of memory. You can't tell if it is magical.
The bark comes off relatively easy and intact.

Merrick shifts uncomfortably. He doesn't want to kill unless his life is on the line. Fundamentally he is a kind and good halfling.

You find shoes, belts, purses and clothes. Enough for a 15 or 18 people. All sizes, men, women and children.
You find no bodies. The red mark on the tree may be blood or a deep red paint. It is a geometric shape. It was put there purposefully.
