At the mention and sight of the huge amount of money, Gryrig drops his suggestion to keep the sword and happily starts shopping for new and marvelous items.
He buys the following items: (if ok for DM and party, please confirm)
Mending clothes (100), because nothing is worse for style and elegance than having tattered clothes.
Cloak of many fashions (800), because you never know when you need to dress up or down
Decanter of Endless water (600) because you can't sing the performance of a lifetime on a dry throat
Instrument of Illusions (100), because sometimes you need to improvise a stage and decorations.
Doss Lute (1000), because for a real performance you need instrument and costume changes, and a few extra spells always come in handy.
Staff of Flowers (100), because when you need to charm a lady, what better than fresh flowers?
(last item, DM please let me know if ok or not?)
Broom of Flying (1000) because you never know when you need to escape from e.g. a bedroom window before the husband comes back.
That makes a total of 3700.
Gryrig is happy to lend the rest of the money to Duncan or the others - on the understanding that anyone who takes him up on the offer owes him a big favour if e.g. an angry husband manages to track him down.
As he explains this, the rest of the party (who know him by now) suspect that this is more of a hypothetical chance, as Gryrig isn't anywhere near as successful in the area of seduction as he makes out in his tales. So there may not actually be many jilted husbands, ... or maybe none at all. Who knows, with someone who habitually exaggerates.

"I say, do you think it would be considered bad form to practice flying about the garden?", she asks with a grin as she pulls out a broom.

”Probably not the best place and time for that, Kat,” says Duncan, “Though I am pleased that we all have some new gear to help us in our next adventures.”
”Any theories about what happened to the dragon cultists who were after the mask?” he asks, “Or why the flying citadel crashed?”
"Yeah, the flying castle thing has got me stumped. Did the Dragon hold it magically in the air? I didn't think even dragons were capable of doing something like that. Normally, wouldn't someone have to enchant the whole thing like one giant artifact? But then why did it fall out of the air suddenly? It couldn't have been that one little fireball that took down the castle? If not, did someone else cause it to crash once we removed the threat of the dragon? Maybe the Giants? Torman, magic is your speciality. Do you have any ideas?
It's a real shame we couldn't keep it afloat. A floating castle, now that would have been something neat to own. I imagine it would have been worth more than even Hazirawn!
As for the cultists, I guess they are still around. We managed to take away the hoard of gold they were trying to finance their plans. But there were not many cultists on the flying castle, so they must have a base - or maybe even multiple bases - somewhere else. If you ask me, that's probably what this whole council meeting is all about. If the threat was over just because we robbed their coin, everyone would be celebrating instead of meetings in councils."
Looking at Kat's broom, and at a similar one he bought himself, he adds: "Well, at least next time we are on a giant castle falling out of the sky we can fly away instead of jumping out."
He then takes out one of this other marvellous new magic items, his magical cloak, and has great fun using it to imitate the various styles worn around the town, from peasant to noble.
(( Sorry, I would contribute more, but not having actually been there...just reading other's comments helps! ))
Torman has, for the last few days, seemed exhausted. Each day starts with him heading out to buy more scrolls and materials and ends with him at the inn, his hands covered in ink as he settles wearily into a seat. He rubs his temples as though with a headache, but despite his seeming troubles, he seems content. He rarely talks, and when the time comes for their fateful meeting, he manages to dress in a fine set of clothes, though faint traces of old ink can still be seen on his hands.
He smiles at Gryrig's remark, "I could not resist one myself! Damned useful, I expect, though some coven of witches will likely be going without for a time, eh?"
As he ponders the past, he finds the more recent experiences uppermost in his mind. "Do you think we should...you know...do something about those orcs? Or are they just filling the space the dragon occupied?"
"It seems they were there for a while, I am curious what other reports have filtered their way back to the city about them. That may inform what the next steps will be, whether it is something we pursue, or something that is already being handled. As much as I fear for any others being kept there, it may be that the cultists are the greater, more immediate threat. Perhaps the young women we brought back are well enough to provide their perspective on other captives they may have seen.", Kat remarks.

"Aye, some gentle questioning by those skilled in such things could well be in order."
Torman looks toward the council chambers, "Though I have my doubts that the council will be particularly interested in the fate of a few circus performers."
He sighs and looks down at his hands, rubbing at the errant ink stains.
Gryrig relishes the opportunity to present evidence to the council. "Look a this audience. I think this is a job for a bard!" In his mind , this becomes a fantastic stage to entertain and regale all of the dignitaries and nobles from far and wide in a single session. When he gets his chance to stand in the limelight, he takes his two new magical instruments, and puts what he hopes will be the performance of a lifetime:
[This continues the song he's been writing for a while. I'm not a poet or song-writer, so I will give some of the key excerpts. Just imagine that there are a lot more verses, maybe some key changes, a lute solo, etc. in addition to what I wrote down]
Gryrig recounts the tale of their adventures in the form of a long song:
"Our heroes came together, to protect the land, To help the people, they fight hand-in-hand. … Evil cultist robbed the town of Greenest and made it burn, But our heroes vowed for the money to return. … To a roadhouse they tracked them, as workers disguised Infiltrated the cult, those cads they despised. … Down the river they travelled, battling great crododiles But no foe yet withstood they might and their wiles! … Castle Naerytar came next, a stronghold of their foes, They entered disguised, then snuck forward on toes. … The castle they searched, and dungeon deep below A teleport circle they found, and made their curiosity grow …. To Parnast they travelled, to ride on Wyverns up high, Up up to a caste, flying high in the Sky! … Upon that high castle, they met giants and foes The danger ever closer, for this small group of heroes … Having plundered the study of the evil most bold, They went to investigate all the stolen gold … But guarding the hoard, was a Dragon big and white, Who would not give up the gold without a great fight … Brave Duncan faced Glazhael man to wyrm, and seeing his boldness the dragon did squirm ... Fair Kat, invisible through spell, shot her arrows and made the dragon's life hell ... As the fight grew fierce the dragon tried to hide, but Azzure's guiding bolt turned the battle to the hero's side ... A dragon of ice and snow, it suffered when Torman's fiery magic did blow … Defeated and bled, the ice wyrm was shamed and fled … Our heroes pursued the vermin and though it tried to attack, a final volley laid it dead on its back! … The castle then fell, straight out of the sky, It fell and it fell, coming down from so high. ... Our heroes escaped, but before returning home, They entered a cave, deep and dark, into the stone. … There they rescued two damsels in distress, Before returning to the city, for this council to address."
The chorus continues to be a catchy
"So hear us folks, if you dragons you see, and your life in danger be; then call upon my friends and me, and we'll be heroes for ye!"
Performance: 24 (I have given G advantage based on the fact that (a) he's been writing and practicing this song for quite a while, and that (b) he has a magical instrument (the Instrument of Illusions) which gives him some assistance such as illusory background decorations etc. If it helps, he'll also get Irraxan to use the "help" action (e.g. keep the beat )

The list does not include general scrolls; happy to hunt, but if Torman goes to a number of shops, is there a range of scrolls to choose from? ))At the mention and sight of the huge amount of money, Gryrig drops his suggestion to keep the sword and happily starts shopping for new and marvelous items.
