Adelle Just continues to wait. Thinking about these two. They looked like they could handle themselves. Maybe there might be something for them... I'll have to check in with HQ first. After a short while she speaks up again.
What is it exactly that you two do? Do you go around fighting monsters? Or just pick up what you can where you can?
Bert turns back with a half-grin. "It's funny, we have indeed fought monsters. Helped save a town from goblins and orc raiders. Rescued some captives. Hitched a ride on a flying giant's castle. Really kind of the life of those adventurers the bards tell about in the stories. But then we sort of hit a snag, and became wanderers together, after the rest of our party disappeared. We've traveled a fair bit of the realms since then. Just got into town, and happy to try out not constantly moving for a bit. What about you, are you from Neverwinter?"
Interesting. Sounds like you two have quiet the exciting life.
She glances over to where Andrella left then back to the elf.
No I'm not from here. Been here about a month. I'm with the Whit Sails Mercenaries from Mintarn. Been with them for a few years now. We've been hired to be a sort of "Town Guard". Help bring this place back, keep the peace, protect it from outside dangers. That sort of thing.
Adelle looks down at Oden seeing he is sitting, happy and relaxed. Then she looks back up folding her arms.
Bert had forgotten, somehow, about the wolf. He keeps himself from stepping back as he regards it. "That sounds interesting, and also reliable. Nice work. Is your canine friend there also part of the guard? I have a slightly less substantial, yet more familiar, companion that comes and goes."He snaps his fingers and a brown little barn owl appears on his shoulder. "This is Meridian, but you can call her Merry."He feeds her some morsels from the remainder of his meal.
Adelle's hand drops back down to Oden's head and she scratches him behind his ears.
Wow.. She's magnificent. She must be great for night time scouting. This here is Oden, he's my best friend and companion. So yea I guess he is part of the guard.... Well at least a part of the unit I'm in. He is worth his weight in gold when it comes to patrols and hunting.
Adelle stands up straight then places her hands on her hips, a slight frown forms on her face.
I swear people make us wait on purpose just to be spiteful. I try to do this quietly and they waste valuable time. The others are bound to barge in and storm the place if Andrella takes much longer. Sheesh!
Bert looks at Merry, and says, "Would you like to go see what the hold-up might be?"The little owl cleans some crumb or speck out between two wing-feathers, shakes her head, and darts off, following the path Andrella took, and looking for an unobtrusive perch from which to watch and listen. Bert's eyes go blank for a minute or so, listening and looking through Merry, trying to see if he can hear what Andrella might be saying.
Zook listens to the exchange between Bert and Adelle, and when Bert introduces his owl, Zook reaches into the pocket of his robe and pulls forth a small, brown mouse. "I have a little friend of my own! His name is Milo. He comes and goes too, but only inside my pocket. I don't let him out much when Merry is around, since I'm sure Bert's owl would see him as naught more than a tasty lunch. He's good company, though. Limited vocabulary, but I do enjoy our little chats."
"And yes, I would say that we have an exciting life. At least my own life become much more interesting when I met Bert. We did have some rather grand adventure with those other folks we traveled with, especially that jolly chum Mandy. He was a gentle soul, but an arm like a giant. Boy, could he swing that mace of his!"
"Since we've been on our own, we've had a few tenuous escapades, but nothing quite as exciting as flying with the giant in his flying castle. We almost got eaten by giant vultures, who apparently saw us as tasty lunch."
"As for what we plan to do right now... Our plan was to reach Neverwinter, and now we're here.As I like to say, it is better to travel, than to arrive, and now that we have arrived, the rest is but a mystery."
Adelle looks at at Bert and smiles she has seen this ability before.
Yep that'll be Harrag.
Adelle looks turns her gaze to Zook as he speaks and when he pulls out his little mouse she smiles
Absolutely adorable.
She looks down at Oden and gets his attention and points to the mouse.
Friend, not food.
She then whips her head up as Harrag enters and her grin gets wider. She steps forward and lifts her hand in greeting. She always liked this man no nonsence kind of person and she appreciated his ale too.
That would be me Harrag. Need to speak with you about some official business. I'm sorry this has to involve you. You know I'd rather be here enjoying a drink.
Zook looks at the large peg-legged man with keen interest. Looking towards Bert, he says,
"Well, if there were ever a figure who would personify every wild story and tall tale I've heard about ship captains and hardened sea faring men, it would be him. It seems as if we made the right choice of taverns, if indeed we were looking for anything but a quiet, lazy evening."
She then reaches into her belt pouch to retrieve a folded piece of parchment.
It's Lieutenant. They sent me here because It's believed that a slaver frequents your establishment. While the higher ups really don't care about how we grab him. My unit does. We like your place so... we wanted to do this....politely.
She looks to the others and shrugs to herself.
We are looking for a Doran Commonbrook. It's said he comes here often and we know he's in town. Know of the guy?
Adelle just raises an eyebrow and grins leaning against the bar again.
You know what harbouring a wanted criminal gets so I doubt that you're hiding him. However... he IS a regular... maybe enough to say he's a friend. I mean, since it's possible you know where he is at this time of day. Only a friend would know that. Which could conclude that you are part of his slaving trade in some way... albeit a small part... but that's still enough to get you taken in......
She says this as if just musing, not accusing Harrag more just thinking out loud. Adelle make a show of checking her nails.
Or... He's threatened or blackmailed you and your place of business and therefore your not willing to risk everything you have worked so hard for. So you had no choice, coming to us was also out of the question because he knows where to find you. He is a regular after all, so he knows your routine........ Which makes you a victim in this. If we can prove that he has threatened you or blackmailed you, he gets a fine on top of the punishment for slaving. Guess who gets half that fine in compensation?
Adelle drops her hand back down to her side and looks back at Harrag directly.

Adelle nods as she listens to the tall elf.

Bert pops back into his own head. "Someone is about to stomp upstairs. Here's a guess: they have one leg." He dismisses Merry to her home plane.

Bert grins, and nods, and looks at the new arrivals, and listens.
Zook Perception: 16

Adelle just throws her head back and laughs
Depends where you go...
She then reaches into her belt pouch to retrieve a folded piece of parchment.

Bert intelligence: 18 (plus another 2 if this is a save)
