Hmmmm... I think the min 17 is enough here, given Captain Ben is standing right there, explaining everything. They would seem responsive to you as you can see they kind of loosen up a bit. The one that came out even had its weapon out, but now it is putting it away and are coming to help with the other door. And it's not like it was a huge battle going on, so they start to calm down.
I think at this point, combat can end but we will jump right back in with the existing turn order if need be.
So the lizardfolk would follow Captain Ben over to the door, still looking at Ash and Ess but now not really paying as much attention to them as they help with the door.
You get it open, and now all of the lizardfolk seem to calm down. One asks "shipment ok?" and something like "can we continue" and they seem quite annoyed at the whole ordeal. They would maybe walk around the deck a bit to see for themselves that whatever went down is over, but they wouldn't go in and try and search rooms or anything like that. They'd maybe see Smithers and maybe even Burns on their boats, but see that they are not hostile so they don't do anything. They would take the captain's word in this moment. Why wouldn't they.
However, they seem to be demanding to know when the ship will be picking up anchor and leaving.
As for Ess and Ash (and I think at this point the lizardfolk would also see Korrik if he stayed where he is on the upper deck), the lizardfolk are just assuming that they are all smugglers. It's not like the lizardfolk keep tabs on each smuggler in this gang. Maybe they raise their brows at the Tabaxi, but again, this gang has hobgoblins, what's to say they wouldn't have tabaxi. The point is Ash/Ess/Korrik aren't attacking and are following Captain's lead so lizardfolk assume they are part of the gang. For now, anyway.
How will Captain Ben deal with this situation in this moment? What will he say to them? The lizardfolk are expecting the ship to pick up anchor and leave for the destination now that the 'mutiny' is over.
Also, what would the others be doing now? Ess would just be staying put, waiting for Ben's lead. He doesn't want to screw anything up.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Captain Ben would assure them,
"Your shipment is fine. We need to pick up a couple more shipments then we can go. Anchor up before dawn."
He will look over to both Burns and Smithers as well and give them a nod and wave and tell Burns,
"Best you get off to getting another load from the cavern, we've got a bit a time table to keep."
Then back to the lizardfolk,
"Okay. Well we got some cleaning to do. Unless you three want to help with that probably best you get back to your quarters. I will come tell you when we lift anchor."
He will wave them back into their room, not really seeming to pay attention to if they go or not and turning to Ess and Ash begins shooting orders,
"Okay. Get these sea sporks below deck (the dead bodies). We'll toss them further out. Start sorting the goods while your down there so we have room when the next load arrives."
He will point at Kay,
"You come with me, there is some cleaning in my quarters."
At this point he would go into 'his' quarters, door open, and wait a bit to make sure the lizardfolk go back to their quarters. He will look around the desk for papers about 'current operations' and gesture for Kay to do a search of the room. He is mostly just doing it for show though.
Investigation(?):2
Once the lizardfolk go back in their room he will have Kay go bring the others up to 'his' quarters and close the door for a quick chat.
If all goes to plan, and the crew get a chance to talk, Ash would let the others know how well she thinks it’s been going. But she would also say that she feels like they need to deal with the lizardfolk now, one way or another.
She’s not too keen on letting them go, so she thinks it boils down to knocking them out and tying them up.. or killing them. Her preference is knocking them out, but she’s not adverse to killing them.
One-at-a-time might be best, but she thinks they could take them all on if they had to.
((Who else is knocked out? Just the captain? I can’t remember if he’s bound and gagged. If not, she would do that)).
((He is bound and gagged on his own bed! Everyone else is dead.
Again, if there is a chance to meet up:))
Ben will look thoughtfully towards the lizardfolks' door,
"I'm guessing the shipment they are talking about is those weapons what his name was talking about. Question is what are they planning with them. The captain might know, but they definitely do and I would like to be the one to solve that mystery for the council."
He looks at Ash, Kay and Ess then amends,
"We. We should be the ones to discover it for the council. Failing that, maybe we should ensure it remains a mystery for us to solve. For money. If you understand my meaning."
"I think the rum is more likely to work, if we can get them to drink. Also, we don't have too much time before dawn. We also need to remove all the valuables on this boat before we turn it over. Many thing to do, not much time to do it."
Ash thinks… “Ha! Yes!.. What if we just give them a barrel of rum each and tell them to enjoy themselves… ‘after all the stress and disruption’? ‘knock themselves out’ so to speak!…”.
”And then we all can get to work on searching the boat!”.
"We'll call that plan A. We'll interview the captain before we question them. If that fails we go to Plan B. Kay and ESS, would you mind bringing the lizardfolk a barrel?"
Captain Ben, the lizardfolk respond, you can tell they are upset and you now can barely understand them because they are using mostly draconic. They are buying your story, but seem to be very upset that there are more shipments. "By DAWN!?" they grumble to each other, and the other 2 lizardfolk go back into their quarters along with the one that was talking to the captain and they slam their door shut. Before they do, the lizardfolk looks back and says "NO MORE LOCK."
Captain Ben, Smithers and Burns both nod back. Burns then starts to paddle away.
((Yep! All dead except the Captain!))
Ok, you all gather in the captain's quarters and close the door.
We can go over each room and search them properly with rolls etc. whenever you guys want to, in game. For now, I will give you a refresher on the captain's quarters since you are all in there.
This cabin is clean, and its furniture in good repair. A single bunk, made up with bed linen, has its head against the bulkhead running along the centerline of the ship next to a wooden partition squaring off the corner near the main deck.
A writing desk is set against the hull toward the stern; it has a drawer on each side and three trays on the top. Also on the desktop, just in front of the trays, is an inkpot, two quill pens, a small knife, and a pewter container that resembles a pepper pot. Against the desk is set an upright wooden chair, and beside it is a wooden, brass-bound chest.
Against the hull on the starboard side is a padded leather couch. In front of it, a bearskin rug lies on the deck, while beneath the couch can be seen a large metal box. A hooded lantern hangs from the ceiling.
A gray cloak hangs on a peg on the back of the door.
Ben, even with that natural 1, you still get this information just by simply looking at the papers on the desk. (there was no roll required for that, but yes please always roll because in most cases there will be a roll requirement)
There are a bunch of bills and receipts for various items of marine supply. There are also several letters of a personal and intimate nature from three different women in three different ports (each of whom is under the misapprehension that she is Mrs. Sigurd “Snake Eyes“), and a curious, semiliterate document requesting a further supply of ironware “as per previous consignments and at the agreed terms.” The signature here is in the form of a pictograph and shows a lizard with forked tongue extended.
So the captain I think will be waking up in 30 minutes. Are you going to wake him now and question him? Are you bringing a cask of brandy to the lizardfolk?
-> I just saw Rod's post - So, Kay and Ess to bring the cask to the lizardfolk?
I'll let Ben digest what he found, and then, will Ben and Ash then wake up the captain when Ess and Kay get back from bringing the cask?
Ben, there's nothing else written on the back of the papers.
Kay and Ess take a cask to the lizardfolk. Ess says "Heh heh heh... broski, I wonder if they even drink this stuff homey? Let's hope so. Dude, this is intense bro. I'm not sure I can go back to regular life after this rush. I dunno." Ess helps Kay take the cask. The lizardfolk are super annoyed that someone came back, but nothing happens and they snatch up the cask and mumble something in draconic that you can't understand and slam the door shut.
You aren't sure if they are going to consume it or not.
Meanwhile, while they are gone, Ben, you get a ping from your detect magic spell in one of the drawers of the desk, it's a sense of evocation. Both of the drawers are locked. You also get a strong sense of numerous magic auras from beyond the wall... the room to the west of you.
Ash, you try the chest beside the desk first. It was not locked, or trapped, and inside you find ten electrum ingots.
Next, you move to the large metal box under the couch. You notice that the box seems to have a strange section at the bottom, and the entire thing just feels oddly weighted. You sense it is trapped, and you're able to figure out how the box opens without setting off the trap... which is a short scything blade protruding from its bottom. You're able to disarm it. Other than that, the box is empty. (DC was 12 on both the find trap and unlock!)
Then points to the electrum ingots Ash discovered,
"Already things are looking up!"
He taps the desk,
"There is something in this drawer, Ash if you'd be so kind?"
To Ess he says,
"Search the captain would you?"
He then stands to let Ash work and addresses everyone,
"We get what we can from the captain, then see if that directs us on dealing with the lizardfolk. Thoughts? In the meantime, I think I will check the adjoining room out. Getting several magic signatures from in there. Probably should do a quick tour of the entire boat actually... Kay, you mind accompanying me?"
He will then walk around the boat systematically check each room for magic by poking his head in. The only exception being the lizardfolks' room. He just checks from outside to see if they have anything magic through the door.
He'll also take a quick inventory of what's in the hold.
Ash, neither of the drawers are trapped. The first drawer contains 2 healing potions, a dose of antitoxin, and a small iron key.
The second drawer contains seven maps of various sea and coastal localities, prepared by professional cartographers. Beneath these is another map, crudely drawn. This map indicates that the rendezvous point with the lizardfolk is at a small promontory beside a river in the tidal marshes, ten miles southwest of Marshswamp.
There is nothing else in the captain's room that requires a check, however Ash you would've noticed that underneath the bearskin rug is a trapdoor which presumably leads down.
"Yeah bro, sure thing homey." and Ess searches the captain. He finds a crossbow, hand, a longsword and another small key. He's also wearing studded leather armor.
((any treasure or items that Ess finds, please just add to the communal lot if need be, except if he mentions that he wants something - thank you!!))
Ess flicks the key over to Ben."Here bruh."
Ben, you get the pings as mentioned before from the room west of the captains, but other than that, you sense no magic anywhere else.
Ben and Korrik, you take a quick but thorough stock of the cargo hold. You find:
Captain Ben waves the lizardfolk that is outside over to the door that is blocked.
"I already told you what is going on. Mutiny... They,"
He points at the dead body on the deck,
"Tried to kill me. We killed them. Happens sometimes. Done. No problem. Things are good."
He waves back at Ash and Ess then turns to the lizardfolk and says,
"Help me clear your door."
He will then move forward and start doing that.
Another persuasion with disadvantage (min 17): 11

"Well that was completely uninformative."

What might be next?
((Will do, I have only added the electrum so far.))
Ben catches the key and gives it a look before shrugging and moving on his inspection.
Ben does some quick math on his hand down in the hold,
"I think we can fit all that silk in the bag Kay..."
He heads back up to check on Ash and Ess,
"How goes it in here? Captain up yet? Ess you stay here with him, Ash if you would be so kind to help me."
