Vahlisto looks to you Mist "I welcome the offer, but I belive this place is where I am meant to be, where I am to stay. I do not think that returning to a world with so many others is for me. Also the cave that I live in would have been protected just as this place. I will stay." As we are walking along the Steam Elemental is just behind everyone dancing along, some times jumping ahead of everyone, then back to the back. Vahlisto points to the Mist as it flys past him and says, "This creature, I watched it some and I do not trust it, I wish for it to stay here, with me."
"I do not believe we hold any sway over this spirit, it can choose to do as it will. Let us be off, I for one could use a hot bath and a comfortable bed." Aubric will begin to move the direction he remembers the ship being in.
"Indeed! I think we've picked up quite enough hangers-on for one trip, eh?" Mist replies with a smirk. "Seems only fair you get a buddy of your own, Val. But one thing I can say about mist, as a bit of an expert ya know, is that it'll do what it'll do and there's no sense in trying to stop it. It just creates pressure until you get to a dangerous breaking point. If it wants to stay it'll stay. If it wants to go, you're probably better off without it, as most are..."
I would say the Vahlisto is kind of leading you all back to where you all came to shore, knowing short cuts and safer ways.
The steam seems to be losing is ability to hold itself, and it starts to zip around before finding a shell, and flying into it. Vahlisto picks up the shell and remarks, "Well this will make it easy for it to not join you."
Kraven follows the group, jumping into the air to take a look around every now and then to make sure they are not being followed. Steering Aubric in the right direction at every wrong turn even with the help from Vahlisto.
Seeing the boat in the distance he squawks and points in the direction and flies on down getting the ship prepared for the journey. Mainly due to the fact he does not trust the steam creature as he has no idea what it is capable of. Arriving at the boat he tells the others that we were successful in our acquiring of the crustal and to make the boat ready to depart as the others are mere minutes behind him.
Seeing the others emerge from the tree line he waves them on, and agrees that Vahlisto should keep the creature.
Once Gintarou receives the shard from Kraven, he is going to attach it on the compass and check where the artifact guide will guide them.
Then the warrior walks up to the hermit and says. "Vahlisto, there is something that I want to tell you…" Then Gintarou tells the hermit about their encounter with will-o'-wisps in the cave, how they fought with it, and most importantly how he killed the monster. "I used It without thinking. But that was the move that you taught me. We owe you big time. It's really shame that I can't return you nothing." Again Gintarou bows deeply to show his respect to the hermit.
"Alright, already!" Mist yells from the deck of the ship. "There's a pint at the end of this rainbow and the tide's in our favor. Let's go!" He waves a farewell to Vahlisto and impatiently beckons anyone left on the shore.
Kraven lets out a loud squawks and smacks the side of his head and hops on over to Vahlisto, "Thank you for help, was good." Then he removes his quiver filled with arrows, his shortbow and his spare dagger and hands them to Vahlisto. "These have proved good tools, but no longer need, you keep. Hope meet you again."
OOG sorry for the delay in this post as you can see this is a longer post, it took more time then I thought it would, and I had less time than I had planned.
Vahlisto disappears into the trees as you all row to the ship. Once aboard you look to the compass it is pointing in a north west direction.
Hal looks at the direction of the compass and his map, “So that direction we are looking at either the Giant’s Spu or The Boddens. One way or another, we would add a few days to the trip but, Cendrail and I talked, after a few… arguments, and one of us needs to be off the ship, also, the start of our trip was not really ideal, we kind of need a bigger crew, especially if you all are going to be on and off the ship, it would give us a chance to get better rest. So let's go back to Grayhaven, find a few more hands, then, you and who ever back to sea.”
Cendrail speaks up “I would love to come with you, but I refuse to stay on the ship with him. I will back the voyage one way or another! Just let us know who is going to come with?”
During the trip to Grayhaven Blux approaches you all saying that he wishes to stay with everyone on the ship, and he will do so for the price of his life, food, and a small portion of any treasure.
(DM stand point you can only have Hal or Cendrail stay with you for the trip, so we are going back to Grayhaven. In the spoilers I have a few NPC choices for the crew, you can pick a total of 4 [Blux is not one of the 4] of them to come with, each will have a little RPing of their interview to help make the choice send me a PM with who you want in crew, or who you don't want in the crew. Second, is there anything that we wish to complete while in Grayhaven shopping to be done?)
Francis Chaucer, a very young human man. If you have ever been to any local Grayhaven sporting events it's probable that Francis was there, and one of the better athletes competing. His hair is long curly and light gray in color, it gives a good contrast to his ebony skin, which save a few scares was smooth. During the interview a few times he pulled food out of his pocket and munched on it.
Francis “So what exactly is this trip for?”
No full answer is given but the idea that risk is going to be involved is given
Francis “Ok,we might die, might get maimed good to go.”
When asked why he was looking for this employment. Francis answers with “Just got married, moved into the house with my in-laws. That's not working for me, so some time away, and some extra money means when I get back I should be able to move me and the wife out.”
Merek Montagu, a half-elf man who is in his prime of adulthood. Short brown hair, and golden postmarked skin. He is extremely skinny and has a bow with him. He has a fresh looking tattoo on his forearm. He randomly says things that are going on around him but nothing to do with the conversation, or things even more random such as “I need to stop and get Mom’s fabric on my way home.” These comments are not at anyone, more to himself.
One of you ask “Have you ever sailed before” Merek “Well, my first Captain was Hal, so I think it’s Ironic that I’ll be sailing on that same ship.”
When asked if he had any questions he wanted to make sure that this voyage had no ties to the aristocracy. He also wanted to make sure that he does not receive a larger share than other sailors would be just because he had sailed before.
Ronald Boulderdown, an adult Aasimar. Ronald is the definition of albino. Pail while skin and hair with bright red eyes. He stumbles when coming to sit for the interview, but his forearm is about the same size as a normal person’s leg. While you are talking with Ronald you notice females checking him out, and some of the males also, and why not he is hands down one of the most handsome men you have ever seen. Most of his answers are short and slow or they were long rambles that were loosely connected.
His answer to How much experience do you have?
“This will be my 6th ship in, 10 years. Started sailing at 16, my last captain was Jarmin Offset, good guy but he wanted to head farther south than I ever want to go, my 2nd captain left and wanted to go as far west as possible, happy I didn’t go on that ship they were never seen from again, you know what you don’t see a lot of anymore Gillmoreberrys. My grandpa said they use to be everywhere, but his best story was about the time that he meet a dragon, it was a metallic one, or he would be dead for sure. What were we talking about again?”
Findelye Gadilinion, a very young female drow. Jet black skin, and a buzzed hair, the short hairs are white in color. She is one of, if not the thinnest person you have ever met. She wears a symbols of Beran the Seven-Souled (The god of birth) around her neck.
When asked how long she has been sailing she answers with “Most of my life.”
WHen asked how or why she started to sail at such a young age. “When I was a child I lived in a small underground Drow village, and we were attacked by bandits. I was one of 3 people who got out of the village alive, but on our 72 day walk to the next anything, the other two died, I had to fight off 13 bears at one time, I lost my way once I was alone, thats when the bears found me, they corned me on a cliff, I had not eaten in 9 days, anyways, when I saw that I had two choices jump or die, I jumped. I saw a ship after landing in the water, so I started to swim to it, and then climbed on the ship and they let me stay and work.”
You mostly get the feeling that her story is not 100% true.
Gorvenal Serpentwind is a well over the hill human man. His hair is red and white, patchy from not caring what it looks like. He is the hands down most experienced person, and looks like he can still hold his own. He references Dreor the Red (One of the gods of war) a lot. Covered in tattoos but most you can not tell what they are any more, except his knuckle tattoos, you see he is missing one finger on right hand, the right hand reads “Bad” the left hand reads “Days”. He has two books tucked into his fabric belt. He is even spoken and deep with some of his answers.
Someone “What do you expect to get out of this voyage?”
Gorvenal “I treat every voyage as if it's my last, my millionth, and my first, prepare, work and learn.”
Sorth, an adult Lizardfolk woman. She has dark gray scales that are all smooth. She is constantly looking over her shoulders to make sure that no one is right behind her. She has a rapier at her side, and her clothing is minimalist at most.
One of you ask “What got you into sailing?”
Sorth “******* Krath is my ***** ******* daughter, and her *** is ******* lost in the *** **** ocean somewhere.” This answer was proply the one with the lowest curse ratio.
Lalia Chilly is an adult halfling woman. Short, even by halfling standards, but just almost as wide as tall. She has a sword on her back just as big as she is. Her head is shaved bald, she wears a armor like thing of sea shells. She keeps a pet rat with her the whole time.
When asked if she had any questions she has two:
“How much time will we be anchored? I want to make sure I get my swimming in? Are there any bonuses to this voyage?
Viccos male just over adulthood dragonborn. Golden skin tall and well built, he has a military issued sword and shield, but wears a chainmail shirt. When he talks he has a hissing noise, and his “s”s sound more like “zz”s.
Someone “Have you ever sailed before?”
Voccos “No, but I learn quickly. Being a zzoldier was great but my zzuperiorzz were not upfront and honezzt, they me kicked out.”
Druquilla looks between the party, Hal, and Cendrail then raises a hand and points at Hal, "If we can only keep one my vote is on him. Cendrail could be useful on whatever island we end up on next but that won't matter if we can't get to the next island. Hal knows the ship, knows the seas, there is a better chance of our ship not floating away while we are ashore if Hal is there. So I say we keep Hal."
Kraven looks at Dru and starts to nod his head when Dru speaks, "I agree. More importantly if our employer comes with us and dies, who then pays us?"
When back in Grayhaven Kraven will stay with the ship and help prepare it for its next voyage. He will hand over the Platinum Pan's Flute and the 13 precious gems to someone to be sold.
I am going to wait till the morning to make the next post as we get ready to venture off. I will post based on what I have at that time for if Hal or Cindrail is coming with and what crew members are going to come.
"Good point. Though this means I have to stay with my roommate on each voyage." Gintarou looks disappointed and drops his head. "No hard feelings, Magnus. But sometimes, man needs his privacy, you know?"
"As if there were a choice to be made!" Mist pops off when the group discusses it away from Hal and Cendrail. "The geezer's been right curmudgeonly since we first met him and a thorn in the arse at every turn. There's no reason to keep him about when the only thing he's good for is funding!"
Mist is happy to sell goods for himself and anyone else since he recently happened upon a particular technique to distort value of items to unsuspecting shopkeepers. He'll do this in the mornings and drink the rest of the day until they're ready to shove off again.
The spell doubles the value of items.
@DM let me know if you want any RP or anything. It allows for an investigation check from the shopkeeper (DC 15) but I would guess most of the businesspeople around here don't have a reason to distrust Mist...yet.
Kraven would share as these items were found with the group and at least at the moment, he has no need to keep anything hidden. Also while on the boat waiting for the others he will go through the explorers backpack he found with the stuff as well. (Think he found it down in the pit with the skeletons. Oh yea, he also found 80gp down there as well, to share among the group.)
The sailors accompanying you are Ronald Boulderdown, the giant Albino Aasimar, Francis Chaucer the athletic young human man, Lalia Chilly the seashell wearing halfling woman, and Gorvenal Serpentwind, the most experienced, old human man.
Cendrail, while he does seem to be disappointed that he is not joining the expedition, is ok with it.
The flute is worth 80 gold which means that Mist is able to get 160 gold for it. The Gems are 25 gold each, totaling out to 325, meaning Mist is able to get 650 gold. And Cendrail buys enough food for the voyage, leave enough money for food and basic necessities. He also pays you all another 25 gold.
The ship is all set and ready to go, and you push off with the new crew and a heading, Hal now knows that you are heading to Giant's Spur. The existence of Giant's Spur is known by sailors and sages across the Great Sea. Thought to be a relic from ancient times, the knowledge of its true builders has been lost to history.
Nearly the entirety of the Great Sea is the domain of Lux, an ancient red dragon that rules from the Golden Archipelago. After warring for centuries, the dragons reached an agreement. They would divide the world into ten territories, each one the domain of a different color of dragon. For her part, Lux claimed the Great Sea. A red dragon to her heart, the accumulation of material wealth is Lux’s driving joy. Unlike the rest of her ilk, she doesn't burn down towns - instead, she taxes them. As a result, nearly all trade in the Great Sea flows through her. Miserly though she is, Lux realizes that a healthy village is more productive than a sick one. As a result, she rules her domain like a fire-breathing business tycoon, passing out edicts to ensure her islands are cultivated, her subjects productive, and her profits maximized. In exchange, the people receive Lux's protection. The sea lanes her tax collectors travel, known as the Dragon’s Coin, are so well patrolled that safety is all but guaranteed. All vessels that sail those routes must pay the dragon a steep tithe, which they show by flying Lux’s banner: a bright red flag sold at ports all across the Great Sea for a hefty fee. Made from the tanned hide of giant sea slugs, any ship on the Sea not flying the flag is subject to punishment by one of Lux’s many offspring, ranging from confiscation of goods, to instant incineration. Hal knowing this has one of Lux’s flags already on the ship.
When you first come in sight of Giant’s Spur, it rises up before you like an impossible mirage - an otherwise ordinary island with a mountain that rises straight up into the sky, its peak vanishing somewhere far above the clouds. Not long after catching sight of the miraculous island, you sail past a great stone totem that juts from the waves. Shaped like the head of a red dragon 20 ft. tall, and painted in bold red and black, it watches the ship silently as it pases by.
Despite the ominous totem, the waters here are far from empty. From the crow's nest a multitude of ships can be seen, some sailing to the island itself, others anchored a distance off the shore. When you are less than an hour away from the island you reach a congregation of these ships moored on a barren group of islets with a sign calling it the Trader Shoals. Nothing more than long shoals of barren stone. Although barely above sea level, and caked in algae and bird droppings, these waypoints are a famous sight in the region. Over a dozen merchant vessels are moored along the length of the shoals, flying flags from the Greenwold, Old Empyrean, and island nations of the Great Sea. Due to their location, the Trader Shoals serve as a popular meeting spot for merchants from near and far who seek exotic trade in Lux’s domain. Alongside their native flags, each ship conspicuously flies Lux’s red banner. You are hailed warmly as they pass through the shoals by merchants hoping to trade. But the Astral Compass points onward.
Two questions 1 is there any RPing that is wanting to be done?
