(OOGish? For me, when in doubt roll a straight d20, suggesting what it might be and put the modifiers with it, if I need something specific you didn't recommend I can always look.) I will roll for you using advantage, Aubric's religion and a d4 for reasons.
Yeah that works great. Aubric and Mist you look at the writing and what you learn is this.
The Oarsman was once a mortal, but not human, a giant, who helped lead the building of the spire. Between that and a few other things he was able to "ascend". Something that is mostly myth. It is believed that the gods, at least most of the current gods, were most likely born mortals and then ascended into God hood. (Think Disney's Hercules how at the end he proved worthy to be a God again. [Don't start the debate of the quality of the movie] only in this world everyone and anyone could do it, that being said it takes a lot more effort. There is even a legions from about 50+ years ago about a group of heros who dissappear and now have small followings, not exactly cults but also not as big of a following as even the Oarsman has.) None the less this looks to be a shrine to him, and the God he once followed.
As Mist and Aubric go to examine the holy marks Druquilla goes back to the pool of water just to double check it to see if there is another water creature or anything else of note she might have missed before. After a moment if nothing happens Druquilla joins Mist and Aubric, "Learn anything of note?"
"Hrm," Mist grunts, not looking away from the symbols. A moment later he finally glances up at Druquilla.
"Seems this Oarsman fellow was a run-o'-the-mill giant at one point. Built this here spire and performed some other miracles or some such and became a god!" He lets it hang in the air before cocking an eyebrow and continuing. "Kinda makes ya ponder your paltry priorities in life, yeh?"
Mist chuckles and heads back to the entrance before looking back over his shoulder. "Coming? Or is there other business to be seen to while we're here? Anyone need to sit a spell and rest up?"
" So just as I expected, the oarsman was a storm giant. But the monsters that attacked his followers were obviously related to clouds… this sounds something off. " Gintarourubshisbeard and says. " … I guess the shrines had been here at the beginning and someone added the statue of the oarsman. Maybe it enraged the old entities? But why now?"
"Mayhaps it's somethin' to do with the star falling and breaking the tip off the ol' spire...?" Mist replies to Gintarou. "One way or another, we most likely won't have any answers 'til we make it to the top and find our rock.
Mist sits against the wall and lets his eyes droop for a an hour while Kraven keeps watch.
"Perhaps a disagreement between two higher powers," Druquilla remarks adding her two cents in. "But like Mist said we may only get answers at the top."
Druquilla finds a stop to lean against under where Kraven perches himself, and throws him a question, "What do you make of it, think its all about the star fragment or do you think something else is going on?"
Kraven ruffles his feathers at the question put forth to him, "I do not put much stock in the dealings of gods, as from my past experience they don't much care for the lot of us."
Druquilla nods at Kraven's answers, a small smile across her lips, "Agreed, all they seem to care to do is watch, nothing more. And now it seems that some were once mortal, I feel that makes it somehow worse. They would know the hardships we face, having faced them themselves yet still choose not to aid."
Druquilla pauses for a moment turning her attention the marks that tell the Oarsman's story, "What would you do if you could become a god? Would you aid those that prayed to you, aid everyone, or just watch from some throne on high? Perhaps ascending as he did put limits on what you can do in the way of interacting with mortals, thoughts for another time maybe."
Hearing Mist turns Druquilla's attention to the halfling, "How he can be so at ease in the place like this after what we just fought I could never understand. I guess he puts that much faith in us to watch his back, could be taken as a complement I suppose."
(OOG Sorry for the massive delay in posting. I wanted to let the RP roll for a bit, then the weekend got crazy, as did school yesterday. I am also now coaching football, and that is taking up way more time than I thought it would be.)
As you climb you notice a point where the spire is being but up by a cloud, after another few passes around the spire you get to the cloud, and a bit of it is over the path, when you step on it, the feeling is like stepping onto wet sand, it gives a little but is soft, you do not feel the path below the cloud, but the cloud itself. In the middle of the cloud is a castle made from the cloud itself. The path does continue in front of you, there is the cloud land next to you. What do you do?
You have all most likely heard stories about land clouds before. And the compass is not pointing onto the cloud but it is also not not pointing on the cloud, but you do see that the needle is being pulled up some still.
(So just to clarify: We have one path on the road we've been following and another going out on the cloud. The compass is pointing upwards but not definitively to one path or the other. Is that right?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Mist tests the stability of the cloud path, carefully hopping around a bit. He looks at the group and shrugs.
"Tuk? I know you're 'round here somewheres. I'm tired from this blasted climb and don't have the energy to deal with your nonsense. I need you to flutter out there and give us a look around at yon cloud castle. If it's just a cloud that looks like a building or is empty, there's no sense in venturing all the way out there with the group and risking falling through. But if we find creatures or sky rocks or any... particularly attractive sparklies... I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to go take a closer look."
Mist grins and winks at the others just before he jolts forward, apparently struck in the back of the head by some unseen object. A hoarse chuckle fades into the distance toward the cloud castle as Mist makes a rude gesture and growls while rubbing the back of his head with his other hand.
(Oh...and if the marks are carved, Mist is absolutely touching it. Just in case there was any doubt.)

Anything before pushing on? Does anyone need that short rest?

Gintarou will take short rest and he recommends other members to rest too.
Kraven will agree with Gintarou about the rest and will perch near the roof at the entrance and keep an eye out.
