With a long, tortured sigh Jeremiah collapses into one of the chairs. Rubbing his eyes, he steadies himself. 'Where to start? I'm sure Renaer has told you about the initial kidnap, and the subsequent raid by the Kenku, working for the Xanathar Guild.' his voice is calm and steady, focussing on reporting of facts rather than the appalling emotions swirling around them. 'We questioned one of the Kenku, and tracked back to the lair. We picked up injuries from some sentries - I guess Gorm's recklessness then should have warned us, but we pressed on. Another tough fight ensued, and then we encountered a nightmare creature with tentacles on its face, and a skittering brain on legs that sought to usurp my will. There was also a half-orc magic user. Gorm tried to hug the brain, rather than killing it, then abandoned us to run after the nightmare. G... Guardian, and I, dispatched the brain and the half-orc, but suddenly Gorm was attacking us just as we were trying to save Vi, who'd been hit by one of the foul half-orc's spells. Guardian managed to stop Gorm, but only by cutting him down, and by then it was too late for Vi.'
he doesn't start crying again, but his hands are clenched so tightly that his knuckles have turned white.
'And so we find ourselves here, successful at rescuing Renaer and Floon, but at what cost.' he turns to Renaer 'And what is so special about this stone? The half-orc, and his master, seemed very intent on it...' with the final words, his final reserves of energy are spent, and he sinks further into his chair...
((lol, Gorm was the one suggesting retreat... you failed the stealth roll while going to look to see who was screaming in pain... but Gorm’s not around to argue the point.))
Renaer shakes his head. "The Zhents and the Xanathar guild both believe that my estranged father embezzled tons of gold while he was the Open Lord of Waterdeep. The stone of Golorr they think will lead them to it. The recent bloodshed in the streets is because of this."
Volo shakes his head, "Had I known this is what was going on, I never would have sent you after Floon so unprepared. You have my sincerest apologies." He looks over you sheepishly, "In addition to that, I confess that I have but few coins to spare. But never let it be said that Volo reneges on a promise. Allow me to present something much more valuable.” He holds out a scroll tube. “The deed to a remarkable property here in Waterdeep! We’ll need a magistrate to witness the transfer of ownership. I’ll arrange a meeting with one after you’ve inspected the estate and deemed it satisfactory.”
(Also both of you level up to level 2, Kaegmen your new character will also be level 2. Vi has bowed out due to difficulty keeping up. I can try to recruit another one or two if people wish.)
(He is going a cleric. *Grumbles about the cleric I recruited that disappeared.* I don't know if you want to run with 3 people or go back up to 4 or 5)
"A deed to a house. Or tavern. I think it once was a tavern. Either way, a deed to a valuable piece of property I happened across," Volo says enthusiastically.
Renaer shakes his head. "I for one may not have hired you for this job, but I would be remise not to reward you for saving me and Floon. Take this, it is the least I can do. Should you ever have need of me, know that I consider you all friends and you have but to ask." He hands you a bag with 50gp before standing up and offering Floon a trip to a doctor. Floon gets up, leaning on Renaer and says, "I owe you all my life. Although I am not as rich or well connected as these other two, if I can ever help you, please don't hesitate to contact me." The two then head for the door and towards the nearest healer.
Before they make their escape, Jeremiah looks at the bodies of Vi and Gorm. ‘Can you help with the burial of their bodies, please? I don’t rightly know what the procedure is for civilised folk. When my friends have died in the past they get collected by the bone man.’he pauses ‘Gorm has some silver bars on him that could pay for any arrangements.’
Jeremiah takes the 4 bars of silver from Gorm’s pack, and puts them on the table. ‘We took a beating there G. This might help us get some better equipment.’
"You're right Jeremiah, we were definitely unprepared for what we faced. Who would know what those creatures were that we fought? I would like to know more about them in case I ever run into one again." Guardian picks up the scroll that Volo left. "I guess we'd better see what this means too?"
(No worries at all! RL has to take priority... I think a couple more players would work well, yep - we're bit under-powered with just 3, even though having some healing will help a lot!)

((lol, Gorm gets turned into the total scapegoat in death!))
(😉He’s just calling it as he saw it IC - if Gorm had survived he’d have gotten told off in the same way in-person!)

(I think we need a healer, if Kaemgen didn’t go that route?!)
(Yeah, we are too squishy at this point, I would be fine changing characters too if Kaemgen doesn't want to go the healing route.)

Jeremiah, too tired to take this in, looks at Volo, frowning ‘You’re giving us what?’

Renaer nods, "I'll have some folks stop by to bring them to the cemetery. No charge."

Jeremiah nods ‘Okay, let’s go and take a look then...’he pushes the silver bars over to Guardian.
‘Best you carry these until we can sell or trade them, I’m a bit overloaded at the moment...’
(OOC if you guys are ok with me taking another day to sort out some life sh*t going on, I'll catch up on posts and come back with something??)
((I'm fine with you taking the time ya need. I'm also fine with DM recruiting another 1-3? Whatever DM feels best...))
(No worries at all! RL has to take priority... I think a couple more players would work well, yep - we're bit under-powered with just 3, even though having some healing will help a lot!)
((Will prolly flex into some fighter along the way... My clerics tend to be more fightery and only healery when necessary...))
(No problem here with waiting and recruiting)
