Hi all, I want to run something, but I don't have the overall plot figured out yet. My idea would be to use different pre written modules (mostly from Adventurers League), incorporanting character backstories when possible.
Character creation: - all official content is allowed, no UA and no homebrew. - level 1. - roll for stats here (4d6, drop lowest). Then decide if you want to use that result, use the standard array, or point buy. - write a small backstory here. - select a color for your character voice (or just use bold text for it.)
Play style: - there will be two threads, one for the main action and another for combat. I will post a combat recap in the main thread after each fight is over. This way we can remember what was going on faster. - I will keep a small log in the campaign page. - you are free to roll for any skill that you think applies to your actions. - you can check the campaign I'm currenly running from my signature (warning: spoilers there.)
I would like to have 3 or 4 characters, no alignment restrictions, but please no PVP. I'll keep this thread open over the weekend, and will select players on Monday.
Koratana Ashana, also known as Kora or Asha by her close friends and family, was born to a Kalashtar hermitage. Being a Kalashtar, she's connected to a spirit from the dream plane. But unlike the others from her hermitage, she was the only one who talked to her Quori out loud. Growing up, she felt a natural connection to nature, which led her to follow the path of magic connected to nature. When she reached age 30, she split from her hermitage and had been living on her own. After years of wandering, going from city to city, taking boats and caravans, she ended up where she is now, looking for a way to help others, in any way she can.
For my Color, she'll use Purple.
Edit: I rerolled 1's once, but incase that's not allowed. Here are stats without 1's rerolled.
Ursala grew up among a peaceful forest community of firbolgs, gnomes and elves. In harmony with nature, they were a peaceloving people. Ursala's trouble began when a tribe of goblins began harassing her community. Just raiding and stealing at first, but the goblins grew bold, and Ursala saw them murder the lead ranger who was attempting to negotiate a peace. Anger welled up inside Ursala, and she entered a rage and slaughtered the goblins with her axe, He best friend, Lily Woodbottom, a young gnome saw and fled. Ursala became a pariah after that, pushed to the edge of the community, but waging war against the goblins, along with a few like minded souls. Eventually they drove the goblins away, Ursala herself striking the mortal blow on their bugbear leader. After that, there was no adjusting back into her community, Ursala has gone out into the world in search of good causes to fight for.
Soren is the firstborn son of a disgraced lineage of knights. And he can’t stand children. Despite all that, he’s happy enough to work hard. He’s looking to stretch his legs and his abilities.
Reelq was the apprentice and attendant of a powerful wizard in his clan, being taught the basics of magic. Unfortunately his clan was taken over by a band of orcs who bullied them, his master fighting back but being killed by a stray arrow that caught them in the middle of casting. Now fearful, Reelq and several other members fled into their trap filled tunnels and scattered to the winds, separating so there would be a chance of at least one surviving.
With no where to go, Reelq wandered until eventually using his magic on a group of human that attacked him. One of the humans was a wizard that saw potential in training the clearly apprentice wizard. With a new mentor, Reelq continued his magical learning, leaving several years later to expand his knowledge through experience.
Backstory: Tine, pronounced Tina, was born to be a star since she was a child. Her father unknown to her, but her mother would tell her about him while she waited on tables at the tavern. Though throughout the times of telling the stories of her father, his profession always seemed to changed. One year he was an Elven noble who found himself at the tavern because of a rain storm, other takes placed him as an epic Elven warrior on a quest to slay a dragon, but the eventual truth of the matter was he was an Elf who found himself at a tavern and had a fun night that ended up in her birth. Though lately she has been getting bored of telling others stories and wishes to have one of her own after hearing so many.
Backstory: (I guess this is in no way short and I'm sorry)
The story was, Ryo’s father had jilted his mother immediately after the boy was born. All Ryo knew of the man - aside from the fact that he was a High Elf - was that he was a master fletcher called Duiril Amastacia who had been appointed by the High Lord of the city for many years to coordinate and oversee archery competitions.
Ryo’s mother, on the other hand, was a beautiful but poor human daughter of an industrialist whose fair features had earned her the fleeting attention of Ryo’s father. Emelie Morkalyn had not been so naive as to think that getting pregnant by an elvish local celebrity would result in her marrying into nobility, but she had at least suspected that Duiril would have retained her for the sake of their son. In truth, Duiril had simply ignored Emelie and the child he had given her, refusing every invitation to come and see his son and never showing any intention of providing support.
After Ryo had grown up, at first, he was willing to do just about anything to earn a coin. He ran errands, watched lobster cages, delivered messages, and cried for publications. But all around him he saw people using the qualities that they had not earned in order to get ahead in life. Inherited wealth, fortunate good looks, an exotic heritage. So he decided...why not make some good of this for myself?
And that was when he found his niche. Whatever service a person could offer, they could get twice as much payment for it if they emphasised that it was being performed with ‘elven finesse’. This included, among other things, soliciting the service of offering ‘pleasurable company’. Ryo was never a prostitute, no, it wasn’t like that at all. But he did find that some people - especially noble human men - were willing to pay handsomely for the company of a comely young half-elf.
This approach worked as well in the underbelly of the city as it did with the nobility. While bored and closeted gay nobles visited Ryo for an exhillerating break from their token wives, the criminal elements of the city were glad to employ Ryo for his dexterity and diverse skills when it came to smuggling, thieving and running confidence schemes. They solidly believed that having a half-elf on their payroll gave them a material advantage over their competition.
In this way, Ryo’s life was a seamless blend of business and pleasure. He enjoyed everything he did, and doing what he enjoyed seemed to bring in a healthy income. But his perceived status as a half elf couldn’t protect him from everything. It could endear him to many people, but it could not guarantee him that the law would turn a blind eye if they had cause to come for him.
And in one ill-judged act, he very much gave the law cause to look.
It was one night when he was ‘visiting’ the Marquis Del Mastro. The Marquess was out of town visiting her family, and the Marquis had invited Ryo to celebrate her absence for a couple of nights. Naturally, Ryo was being paid for his attendance. The fee was satisfactory by itself, but Ryo couldn’t help but notice that the Marquis was an opulent collector of Draconic artefacts. It also happened that Ryo had a contact in the underworld who specialised in fencing such artefacts.
So, on the second night of his stay, Ryo arranged for a group of thieves to stalk into the Marquis’ residence while he was being ‘entertained’ by Ryo. They would steal as many of the Draconic artefacts as they could, gaining access through a door that Ryo would leave unlocked for them.
Unfortunately, the thieves were a little too greedy and attempted to more or less sack the entire manor. With all the stamina in the world, Ryo couldn’t keep the Marquis occupied long enough to prevent him from realising that he was being robbed and calling the city guards.
Ryo made a slick exit, capitalising on the confusion and taking only the money he had been paid for his part of the ‘job’. He returned to his mother who, as usual, enquired about where he had been. Ryo was forced to tell a slight untruth and claim that he had heard of an exciting opportunity of work outside of the city.
Emelie wished him well, sent him on his way, and the next day learned of the robbery at the Del Mastro manor. Publically, of course, nothing was said about Ryo. The Marquis could hardly have anyone know about that business...least of all the Marquess. But privately, the city guard were on the lookout for Ryo, and private bounty hunters had been dispatched to bring the half-elf in for some ‘behind closed doors justice’.
But by the time the investigation was in full flow, Ryo was long on his way, hoping that his promise to his mother about an opportunity elsewhere would prove to be true in the end. He was certain there were opportunities for him, after all. He just had to go and find them.
Freyja Snowblade will use bold gray textfor her speech. She will be a level 1 fighter, level X ranger.
Freyja was born to her mother, Njara, on the battlefield, as her tribe, the Twisted Spine tribe, clashed with their enemies, the Red Paw tribe. Seeing what was happening, the two sides set aside their differences to help Njara give birth safely. Once the baby was born, however, Njara was killed by an arrow to the chest, and Freyja was stolen from her. Raised in the Red Paw tribe, Freyja knew nothing of her origins, besides that she was born on the battlefield. She learned through the tribe's shaman that there is a prophecy the Red Paw tribe keeps close to its heart: that a child born on the battlefield shall rule over all tribes. Not wanting to have that pressure on her, Freyja fled, and is making her own way in life right now, as a sellsword and guide.
I see some great application here. I noticed that a few of them are using races from Eberron (which is ok), but I'm not that familiar with that universe and I plan to run this campaign in Faerûn. The first module I want to run is The Peculiar Case of the Selptan Felines.
Looks like you might be able to use a fighter of some sort.
Ironwall
Rynoc Akatanurei ran away from his goliath tribe for fear of being granted an embarrassing name by his chieftain. He was sure that his impulsivity and foolish choices would garner him a name that he could not bear to live with. Rather he would die in the unforgiving wild than live as the joke of the tribe. Thus, Lord Parcet found him in his personal hunting grounds chasing quail with his bare hands, far from the mountains of his people. Parcet took him in and employed him as a town guard of one of his holdings, Gilborg. There Sheriff Kastan trained him, commissioned custom armor and weapons, and employed him. He became something of a mascot of the town, complete with stories of his kindnesses...and his boneheaded choices. The townspeople of Gilborg usually spoke of him with a slight smile and shaking their heads. They were fond of him but exasperated by his behavior.
One day a goblin raiding party razed a series of farms on their way towards Gilborg. Rynoc met them, alone, at the bridge over the Gil River and, through great injury, held the goblins at bay until more guardsmen and a posse of townspeople could arrive to fend off the attack. After that day, Rynoc had earned a name from his chieftain: Ironwall. Kastan gave him the name and the townspeople granted him another: The Goblinstomper. While he liked that name better, he knew it was not his real name. His name was now Ironwall, and that is how he introduced himself thereafter.
Backstory: Moralesh walked through the ashes of his once vibrant village searching for his parents. He found what was left his his house, rubble and embers still glowing. He dug his way through till he found his parents and baby brother in what was left of the master bedroom, they just putting Noctua down for his nap when the attack happened. His parents didn't have time to respond or move from where they were when the flaming boulders came down upon the village. The townsfolk of the next city over had attacked many times before to drive off the small village of dragonborn, never having done more than bruise a few people or hurl insults their way, until now.
To Moralesh it seemed strange and wrong, at his young age he didn't understand the fear and apprehension that was often directed towards those of his kind, nor did he understand that he was now an orphan. He curled up between his parents not knowing where else to go and cried until he slept. When he awake it was to a noise of someone shouting in a tongue that he didn't recognize. Curious more than scared he crept out of the rubble to see what was making the noise.
Hrothbert, walking through the aftermath of the battle was heartbroken at the needless slaughter is shouting "Anyone here, I came to help!" He knew that many had manager to flee by the abundance of tracks leaving the village but he knew, after whitnessing many scenes like this before, that there were bound to be someone, buried, lame, or mourning, still in the area. He turns quickly at the sound of movement and sees the young, half starved, black dragonborn crawling to the top of a destroyed cottage.
Moralesh locked eyes with the strange man and seeing compassion in them starts to move toward him but collapses do to his hunger and fatigue. When he awoke he was in a small apartment, wrapped in warm blankets, with a small bowl of stew and glass of water nearby. He quickly ate and drank and looked around.
Hrothbert sat at a nearby table watching intently as the youngling studied it's surroundings. The human saw such fierce intelligence and innocence in the dragonborn that he decided raise, teach, and train the toddler.
Moralesh grew quickly, as one of his race would, and learned the common tongue quite easily. Hrothbert taught him how to wield all manner of weapons and to protect himself. They chose to use the date he was found as his birth date as Moralesh did not remember it. He did remember his family name though. One time Moralesh had asked to have Hrothbert's family name but the older man refused stating "Your family name is your own, you must grow to bring honor to your family and not mine." So he proudly walks in his heritage, Moralesh Honabi, dragonborn, raised by a human paladin, trained as a fighter.

Playing as a warforged wizard. In this color. named Madeca
Backstory: Madeca (That is what humanoids call him. His real name is Magic Defense Caster Alpha 7 which they find to long for some reason) one day woke up from his cryostasis. Most stasis chambers were destroyed, some where empty and even fewer were still intact, but damaged, which included general Geldions chamber. He stepped outside the vault to search an engineer for help, but found that the world was a different one than when he shut down. He was build for complex techno-magical tasks, but his cognitial databanks were corrupted during the stasis and the tombs databases were destroyed. His objective was clear: Go out into the world and re-aquire the knowledge to clone general Geldion, as was his duty to the imperium.
... es, Ryota Wisebrew. He's rather insightful and quite persuasive. Just the fellow to send to Sept in order to find out out what all the fuss, muss, and purring is all about....
And there you have it. Years of study and prayer and contemplation, although the lessons of the salle and gymnasium were much more interesting...have all come to this -> Ryota Wisebrew's first assignment out from the temple.

Playing as a warforged wizard. In this color. named Madeca
Backstory:
Madeca (That is what humanoids call him.

Ryota Wisebrew, human acolyte cleric royal blue
... es, Ryota Wisebrew. He's rather insightful and quite persuasive. Just the fellow to send to Sept in order to find out out what all the fuss, muss, and purring is all about....
