Tommary tries opening the chest.

"I don't think you should try that just yet...." Taslyn says too late as she says Tommary opening the chest. "eh, to late now..."

Shaking off her conversation with Oethe, Toots turns her attention towards Tommary. “What’s in the box?”

The chest contains a few sets of robes similar to what the priest was wearing, a plain looking pair of daggers, a pouch with 45 gold and 37 silver, a flask, and a sack.

Oethe will open the sack.

Toots will open the flask. “Hawksly, what do you make of this?”

The sack has some chunks of raw meat.

The flask smells like fruit and contains a yellow liquid.

 I almost said they are the same. 

They are essentially average daggers with an unfamiliar smiths mark. As of yet, no dagger is as flamboyant as yours.

With a "bah!" Tommary rejects the daggers with maximum projectile contempt toward the Demon statue, a "Extreme World Dueling Federation" carny trick called misdirection, while he pockets the coin pouch.  19 [Tooltip Not Found].  He rises from the chest adjusting his clothes, "let me take a look at those papers" (*ooc on the off chance they're in Abyssal, and committing 100% maximum effort to his charade).

That was a sleight of hand check.

EVERYBODY notices Tommary trying to sneak loot for himself.

Comprehend Languages is still in effect so you can read the papers. The gist of which is to use special otters to weaken to volcano. That way it will be easier to obtain the treasures within the mountain. The rest are progress reports and supply requests.

Figuring he's been sussed, Tommary's just rocking the coin pouch right on the front of his belt.  "Looks like they've been using your new friends, Toots, to dampen the volcano for some sort of treasure hunt they're on in this here volcano.  I suppose we're all going to have to get resigned to it getting a lot hotter in here, eh?"

OOC: It was actually Speak with Animals, but I'll just roll with the freebie.  I'll leave a gratuity to the DM with my newly claimed fortune.

“Well, that’s just fine by me if it gets too warm in here for them to do... whatever it is they’re doing. I’ll tell you what though, since you obviously seem to have need of those coins, and since you told me to wait before smashing up that statue, why don’t you climb up that big, ugly thing, pry out those jewels it has for eyes and toss them down to the rest of us? We can put them with the rubies we gathered from the priest as party funds, and you can keep my share of that pocket change for your troubles. Deal?”

Toots will cautiously prepare to taste the liquid in the flask, but she’ll turn to Oethe and Elyona first and says: “If this turns out to be a bad idea, try to save me. There should be enough goodberries floating around the party at this point if nothing else.” At that she daubs the tiniest drop on her pinky finger and tastes the fruity yellow liquid to see if it’s some kind of potion.

"Toots, this time hold my beer money," Tommary says as he detaches the coin pouch from his belt (for athletic stability) and lowers the poach to Toots' grasp,  He then endeavors to scale the statue and pluck out the rubies, visually reminiscent of a picture on some edtion's hardcover DMG.  Athletics 15.

Toots takes it with a Mage Hand.

"Dang, if I knew you were gonna wave that around, I woulda said hold my beer up here.  Would ask it to replace my job up here too, but sometimes you need a little more finesse than a magic pluck to pull something precious," Tommary says as he works a pick around an eye jewel inset.

“Oh, admit it, you wouldn’t rather be anywhere else.”
