That would be the east. The only other exit is to the south.
The floor in the east end of this dusty cave is five feet higher than in the west end, with a rocky ridge separating the two areas except for slopes on either side. Picks and shovels lean against the ridge. Small gem deposits in the ridge and the walls of the cave gleam seductively.
"Well there goes my theory that the mine dried up." Hrothbert points to the shining walls."Anya, you haven't noticed anything yet have you?"
Moving forward, sword at ready, Hrothbert scans the overall size and length of the cave. Hoping to find signs of the missing person or the kobolds. Climbing up onto the ridge he moves along the wall to get a better vantage of the area.
"Thulmar, You may have enough room to swing in here if need be."
Balasar moved the staff he carried on his back to his right hand. He figured it was best to keep it ready, but suspected that the band would soon find themselves in an area where longer weapons would not be the best for combat.
"Nothing that I can see," Anya responds, her attention fixed on the gem deposits. Reluctantly, she takes her eyes from the gems and scans the rest of the room, finally stopping on the ridge. "So, should we all cross it or go back and try the other way?
"I got a very bad feeling.. " Kaloruk moved in closer into the group, tail curling a bit out of nervousness. "If this is where the gems are, whats in the other tunnel?"

“While I understand the thought, I also don’t want to leave a space without knowing if it will harm us after. Is it possible that there are hidden or obscured entrances here? Really don’t want someone to sneak up on us.” Hrothbert eyes the space warily.
Balasar scratched his chin. If Speaker Masthew is to be believed, the kobolds only moved into the mine a few days ago. Assuming that the miners would not booby trap a mine they were entering and working in frequently, it seemed doubtful that the kobolds would have enough time to build anything elaborate in regards to traps. Then again, the traps they find might not have been put in my the kobolds or the miners.
OOC: Would I need to make some sort of check to verify that the kobold traps would be simple and crude given the creatures making them and the time they would have to make them?
Balasar grunted, "Masthew said the kobolds have only been here a few days. I'm thinking that any traps set by them will be simple and crude." He paused for a moment, gazing at the gems embedded in the walls of the mine, "Anything more complex than that would be signs that something more than kobolds are in here."
“Agreed, if it weren’t for the elaborate sign out front, I have no qualms about the kobolds.” Hrothbert nods walking back to the entrance of this room.”Thulmar maybe you and Anya take point, I still don’t trust leaving this empty room without some care. Unless Witherspoon could watch the main cavern for us while we explore rest?”
"That, Witherspoon can do. Come now, darling, I know we'll be separated, but I will pull you out and back to me at the first sign of trouble. I will need someone to be my guide as I look through her eyes, as I cannot see through my own as I do this."
“Sounds like a plan, I’ll take up the rear guard in either case. Mr. Bard, Rhys, and Anya I think we should keep you in the middle for now. Thulmar and Balasar you mind taking point?”
Balasar removed a torch from his pack and quickly lit it with his tinder box. If he was going to be one of the adventurers leading the way into the mine, he did not want to go blindly into the dark.
Hrothbert, catching up with the group looks back and forth between the two. “I figure we keep going west. Though we may want to wake Rhys and have Witherspoon move to this location. It may be troublesome but having things sneak up on us would be worse.”

(Balasar: Nope. That's pretty common knowledge.)

"I can help with that," Anya says, giving Rhys her arm. "But what if we run into trouble? Can you hear us while doing that?"

Ok. You continue into the tunnel. About 15 ft in, it forks. West or East?

"West it is, then." Anya pinches Rhys lightly, repeating Hrothbert's words to him once he comes back.
