I believe this is a home brew but I and most of the other DMs I know allow a character to to select a feat at first level. Could this be incorporated in an update - perhaps if the home brew button is highlighted when setting up a new (or old) character? Anyone else have any thoughts on this or other broad based Hebrew features that don’t fall under the listed headings for creation?
Off hand, the only way I know to get a Feat at first level is to play a Variant Human. That's the only thing that makes them special, and they have to give up three points worth of scores to get it. Handing this out to everyone hardly seems fair. I once suggested giving all player characters Darkvision, as there is no Feat which can do this, and I was tired of my Variant Human characters being a burden. I didn't get a single response that agreed with me.

On the plus side, if you think it’s not fair to miss out on the modifiers for Vhuman go straight human and get +1 to all scores and get the feat on top of that if the DM is giving everyone one. That’s a +6 total compared to mosts +3 (+2,+1) or +4 for mountain dwarves.

Or go VHuman and start with TWO Feats?

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
Tiny nitpick. Half-Elves get 4 points to add to their scores as well.
I'm perfectly happy to play my character as long as I get the same benefit everyone else does. If they get one feat, I should get two. If they get 4 points to add to their scores, I should get 6, and that would be 8 for a normal Human, so two +2s, one everywhere else, and a Feat. A Variant Human would end up with +1 to every score and two Feats. I'd love it. Now all I need is a homebrew Feat that gives me Darkvision.
As much as I like the idea, as DxJxC said, it's not easily done with the D&D Character Builder Tool.

As far as rules go, I think MOoT is the only book that suggests this option (as an option).
And the character sheet does support bonus feats not from features, just like it supports bonus proficiencies and languages, etc.
