What happens when a halfling puts on a Circlet of Human Perfection. Do they shred their clothes? Does it just kill them immediately if they're in something sturdy, like plate armor or something? Curious what people's opinions on this interaction would be.
The Circlet of Human Perfection transforms its attuned wearer into an attractive human of average height and weight. The circlet chooses the physical characteristics of the form, such as age, gender, skin color, hair color, and voice. Except for size, the wearer's statistics and racial traits don't change, nor do items worn or carried by the wearer. Removing the circlet ends the effect.
Or, is the correct way to interpret that last bit, is that their gear does change size? Odd wording.
Thoughts?

It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.
Contrary to Polymorph or Wildshape that says the target's gear melds or merge into the new form, the Circlet of Human Perfection doesn't say it also transform your gear so it doesn't.
The DM would have to determine the effect of such transformation on anything worn. Personally, i would probably rely on Improvised Damage rule in the DMG for harmful result.
I think I'm leaning towards reading it as their gear only changes in size. But that size change sentence is a bit mangled and unclear, I think it could be read either way.

The text details that items worn or carried are changed appropriately.
This is specifically so that such things aren't a problem.
Remember the game tries to make it simple so you don't have to worry about inconvenience crap like this.

Attuning to the item and still going through with its effects could be suicide - and there could be less involved ways to achieve that.
It seems to me that the items would change size, based on the "Except for size" comment. It's saying that except for size, items worn or carried do not change. Otherwise the item is pretty much useless. It's a beneficial, not a cursed item.
My question is, does it change you into the same form every time, or a random form every time? If it's the same form, it would allow you to create an alter ego. If it's a random form it would allow you to disguise yourself, but might cause some complications, because the form (especially age and gender) is unpredictable.
The Circlet of Human Perfection chooses the physical characteristics of the form, such as age, gender, skin color, hair color, and voice when ittransforms you. I assume the physical characteristics are subject to change otherwise there would be no choice.

It is more like a preset image. It always transforms anyone who wears it into the same persona. So there could be multiple circlets out there in the world but each one has just one person they turn other people into.
Like you might have the circlet of human perfect: Bob from accounting, while someone else finds a circlet of human perfect: Linda from sales, and then a magic item shop might have in stock another circlet of human perfect: Dale the warehouse manager. You know?
If you get ahold of and attune to circlet of human perfection: Bob from accounting... you always look like Bob from accounting. Anyone who attunes to and wears it always turns into, Bob.

The item doesn't say the choices are already determined. The verb ''chooses'' is present tense, that's why i interpret it that way but others may come to different conclusions.

The circlet isn't sentient or sapient nor does it have a consciousness by which to choose anything. Typically, when undergoing some sort of shape change effect you or a spellcaster would choose these traits, but, in this case, the item come preloaded with choices, presumably made by whoever crafted the item.

Its not identified as sentient for anything else but it choose charactistics for the wearer, this the item clearly mention it. You use word like preloaded, preset, but its not written in the item's description. The item just doesn't tell one way or another.

... are you suggesting the thing that has no mind or consciousness is actively choosing new forms each time someone puts it on? I assure you it doesn't.

Item's choice that are predetermined usually uses the following languages; here the Circlet choose instead i dont know what to think of all this to be honest loll
The DM chooses the type or determines it randomly.

I assure you that the circlet chooses the physical characteristics of the form, no more no less. Anything else beyond that is subject to interpretation.

The item comes from an adventure, and I assure you you are wrong. Yek is always in the exact same human guise. The item is preloaded and always transform you into whatever form it is set to. You can get hung up on and confused by the wording if you like, but you'd be wrong.

That's lore for that adventure. And it doesn't even prove what you say. Sure the circlet could have one single predetermined form it always uses but it could just as well just have had one that it thought was good for Yek and pick another for someone else.
Either way that lore isn't part of the actual mechanical rules of the circlet so anyone using it outside of that adventure have no such guidance and certainly no such restriction.

No. It cannot. because it doesn't think anything. Let alone what form it'd like to give Yek. It has no consciousness and no feelings nor any preferences etc. It's an inanimate object.

A lump of metal cannot make choices. The choices are already made and do not change. They cannot change, because a band of gold is incapable of making choices because it has no mind.

It could very well have “presets” but whose to say it doesn’t have like 2 million presets, kind of like hitting presets or randomize in character creation of video games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Skyrim.
You put it on and it chooses the rosy cheeks preset, with male gender preset with a blonde mullet preset and green eyes preset The next time you put it on it chooses the woman preset with long black hair preset with blue eyes preset.

Yes. Items including items worn or carried do not change…except for size.
so it could read:
The wearer's statistics and racial traits don't change, nor do items worn or carried by the wearer, except for size.
Except that could be read as only the items worn or carried have the exception for size

I did originally read it as not including items worn or carried but upon further review, the size exception does seem to include them.
