The book says that an Adult Oblex can bonus action make 1d4+1 creatures from it's body. and for RP I get how that can be useful. but in combat can these clones do anything? It's still technical 1 creature. But think be cool and creepy to see npcs the party has know fighting along side this blobby creature. How would you work it as up to 5 extra cretures in the fight (with basic moves/attacks no special moves) or just have the Oblex be able to attack from any of it's clones?
I mean, in the pre MOTM oblex said "he oblex can impersonate1d4 + 1 different creatures." Key word being Impersonate. This is not making new creatures so it would essentially be as though the oblex were in the space of the duplicate.
I dont own MTOM so I can't say baised on the wording of the new statblock, but the old statblock is very clear that it is extension of the oblex and not their own creatures.
They can make one impersonation at a time per bonus action, but what would be even creepier is to have the impersonations act like they have no idea what's going on and how they ended up tethered to a giant slime. They cry in horror and reach out to the PC's, by their touch is a pseudopod attack. The key is the psychological horror.

I like that idea. What I kinda had in mind was a Ship lost at sea. The party finding 5 of the crew huddled in a single room. They beckon one of the party to come in to the room at a time, Trying to devour them and replace one of the crew with a copy of the PC. If the PC's find out they fight the 5 crew memebers with odd ooze like attacks only to figure out they are fighting the fingers of a much bigger creature a floor below them. I'm just trying to think of how that would work combat wise sense it's still 1 creature in 6 locations.

Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
