My party thinks I'm reaching out of the box on this so I will bring this question to a higher court. Being that you burn a BA to trigger a flame tounge long sword. Would the feat flames of phegethos apply to this swords fire dmg
When you roll fire damage for a spell you cast....
Whenever you cast a spell that deals fire damage....
Both of these parts of the feat require that you cast a spell. Activating an ability on a magical item isn't casting a spell, unless that magical item specifically states that it is.
That is what they say. I understand that, my argument is that the wording is as a BA you speak the "magical" command word. The BA cost as opposed to interaction to speak the command. I agree it's a reach

I'm pretty certain that the feat won't apply.

"A spell" is very specific to spellcasting in 5th edition. Other magic and ongoing magical effects are not spells.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
