What happens if a petrified creature is reduced to 0 hit points?
Does it start bleeding out and make death saving throws? How do you stabilize a petrified creature?
I don't see anything in the "petrified" condition on PHB p291 that would indicate you don't follow the same rules as any other creature reduced to 0 hit points. It also occurs to me that I don't see anything indicating that cure wounds and other healing spells wouldn't work on a petrified creature, although I could be missing something.
Cure Wounds only works on creatures (doesn't work on inanimate objects).
You're right though that they petrified condition could do with a bit more detail on this.
The rules for petrification doesn't technically convert a petrified creature into an "object".
It turns the "petrified creature" into an inanimate substance. It's still a petrified creature, that is, it is a creature and not an object. At least that's how it seems to me--I think if a petrified creature was intended to be considered an "object" rather than a "creature", it would say so in the petrified condition.
Not sure how to embed but https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/greater-restoration is one of the main ways to cure a petrified creature. Greater restoration targets a creature, not an object. If a petrified creature was turned into an object, it would be disqualified from being targeted by greater restoration.
If greater restoration can target a petrified creature, then (purely by the wording of the rules), is there a reason that cure wounds couldn't? I wouldn't blame a DM for ruling that out for flavor reasons, but what I'm curious about is the specific intent of the rules.

How have you handled this?
edit: looks like I was wrong on this one - see below! :)
The rules say the target becomes a solid inanimate substance, which means that at zero hit points, it is destroyed.

By rule, the Petrified and the 0 hit points condition do not overlap in any way. So, you can stabilize and cure a petrified creature, as always.
You should check the source of the petrification. If something prevents that target to be cured or stabilized, it is written there.
Agreed - I'd not appreciated some of the details. I should have started my post with providing the mouseover links and "I think this means...." :)

I tried to figure out how to do the embeds, but I wasn't sure what to search. How do I embed references and get the popup windows and stuff?
[condition0]petrified[/condition0]
[spell0]magic missile[/spell0]
without the zeros. Same goes for monster.
Thanks!
