So in our campaign our wizard got herself imprisoned by the imprisonment spell. The hedged prison version. The spell says teleporting and planar travel is not possible. If she would banish herself would this be considered teleporting or planar travelling?
If you're not native to the plane you're on it sends you to a demiplane and if you aren't it sends you home. Either way it does seem the result is planar travel.
There is a condition that will release your party's wizard, and that condition is something that is possible to happen. Your party can start doing divination magic to discover what that condition is. Plus, depending on how high level you are, Dispel Magic cast using a 9th level spell slot can free the wizard too. Don't forget that the way I read the spell the wizard is also able to act. Just because the wizard can't teleport out of the prison, the wizard still has everything that was in his possession at the time he was imprisoned and if he has Sending in his spell book he can communicate with you. With nothing else to do, I imagine that the wizard will have lot's and lot's of time to cast divination spells to try to discover the condition that needs to be met in order to free him from the prison.

Yeah, I would think it is based on the description.

Damn, thanks for the answers. Was hoping to find a way for our wizard to bust out of that imprisonment.

Ask yourself: "Does this involve the character going to a different plane (or demiplane) of existence?" If the answer is yes then it is planar travel.
