I know this is probably one of those things that is ultimately up to the DM's discretion, but if I wanted to play a Warforged Cleric of the Forge Domain would the +1 AC bonus granted by Soul of the Forge while wearing heavy armor apply to the Warforged's Heavy Plating mode?
something else i just noticed that might mess with this is that on the warforged description it says, "you gain no benefit from wearing armor," which seems pretty opaque, but I still think it's up to interpretation.
Not according to RAW. So, yeah, ultimately up to DM discretion.
Warforged dont really need extra AC, but Warforged forge domains lose out a lot because they can't gain any of the benefits to heavy armor the subclass gives.
It doesn't work on your own integrated defences, but it still works just fine on any other party member's armor. Take that one for the team and boost another tank.
I think you're referring to Blessing of the Forge, which can basically give a +1 bonus to any weapon or armor. Soul of the Forge simply says, "While wearing heavy armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC."
If I understand correctly, there shouldn't be any reason that you would add your dex mod to AC while wearing Chain Mail because it is heavy armor. If you want an AC of 20 though, you could use Blessing of the Forge after each long rest to give your armor an additional +1 AC.
Ah! You're correct. In fact, I can click on the AC and it breaks down how it is calculated. This is weird. Without the shield on, the character gets +1 AC from the duel wielder feat even though he only has a single war hammer wielded. So it's 18 (16 from Chain Mail + 1 Soul of the Forge + 1 Dual Wielder) or else 19 (16 from Chain Mail + 1 Soul of the Forge + 2 shield)
I can see where Blessing of the Forge could bring the AC to 20.
i just look at the warfoge stats from Eberron-rising from the last war and there nothing about -gain no benefits from the armor-
so in theory you fallow these steps of takeing a warfoge witch You gain a +1 bonus to any Armor Class and take Forge Domain and lev up up to lev 6 to get "Soul of the Forge" witch a part of that ability is -While wearing heavy armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.- witch that make it that no mater what heavy armor ware you have +2 to its AC and slap on a plate type Adamantine Armor witch "normalize" crit damage witch make it that you are a wall of healing metal that laugh's at damage and this is not including shield's, feet's and mult class or any other magic items other then the -Adamantine Armor-.

Speaking of soul of the forge, I have a level 7 forge cleric (not warforged) and the AC calculation on D&D Beyond seems wonky to me.
What am I overlooking?
