I'm trying to host a dueling match between me and a druid who are out for blood, I''m a sorcerer lv 8 vs a level 8 druid, Im really new and the druid has a core group they play with every week. the druid keeps healing by shapeshifting. what spells should my sorcerer use to stop the druid?
is their a way to use higher tier spells above my level?
The rules aren't really balanced for PvP.
I don't think there is a way for you to stop the wild shapes. Moonbeam is the closest thing, but it would take a DM ruling for it to stop wildshape and is a druid spell anyway.
You can't cast spells at a level you dont have slots for.
I recomend fly. His wild shapes don't actually heal him, just give him more hp. So wait him out and spam cantrips while he is a beast that doesn't have range. Then use a leveled spell and some metamagic when he is in human form to drain his actual hp.
DxJxC & jd2319 : By healing by wildshaping it's possible they're referring to the Moon Druid's 2nd level ability to use a bonus action while in a wildshape form to expend a spell slot and heal 1d8 per level of the spell slot used.
Also, even using this twice in the same battle can net you a lot of HP. It is probably quite frustrating to take the enemy out of wildshape, then begin to damage them only for them to just bump back up to a full-health beast form. Especially frustrating when they're Moon Druid and can also heal their beast forms as a bonus action while still attacking with their main action.

Yup. At level 8 a moon Druid (especially one that knows how to run their character) is super tanky. They also just got flying speed for their wildshapes, so casting fly means they’ll just come after you as a great eagle.
Your best tactic is to stay out of melee reach (which can be tough) and soften them up with debuff spells like slow (which would mean they couldn’t attack and bonus action heal in the same turn). Darkness could help too - it might goad them to burn an extra wildshape shifting to giant spider or something. Beyond that you’re just going to have to do a ton of damage and burn through their two wild shapes.
Hmmm. Depends on whether the DM will rule that a wildshaped druid is in fact a beast, or just a humanoid in animal form. Dominate Person might work, though.

"keeps healing by shapeshifting"? I mean, he can only do it twice between Short Rests.
This is why I hate PvP. The game wasn't really set up for it, it's designed around the idea of cooperative play.

Dominate Beast?

Chill Touch could definitely help out a bit.
