I have been playing dnd on and off for several years with a resurgence recently. One of my friends who is still learning the game asks what hp Warlocks have and I say D10 but the pdf says D8 and nothing online states otherwise. I am nearly 100% certain that Warlock hit dice in 5e was at one point of another D10 can anyone confirm this for me?
Warlocks are pretty OP as is without getting a d10 for hp.
I'll second that, if they had a d10, they would have the same health as a Fighter, Ranger, and Paladin, all martial classes designed to be in the front line, and to withstand the attacks of enemies. Most full casters (except certain clerics), aren't designed to soak up loads of damage. However, the upside for them is they do bigger burst damage, if a class got huge burst damage and had a d10 for health, then there would be no point in playing other classes, because that one class would be the best.

Funny, there's a whole thread on this board somewhere about how underpowered Warlocks are. Eye of the beholder, I guess :)
Lol yeah... I have read that thread...
OP was def saying underpowered because only looking at it as a power gamer-y pure DPS kinda lens is my guess. And has a DM and party members that don’t respect short resting. Or run consecutive battles often/if ever.
several people made very great, easy to accomplish, and not even stat dependent points.
Warlocks don't really need larger hit dice; they have multiple sources of temporary hit points which recharge on a short rest, or at-will.
Any Warlock can use the Fiendish Vigor Invocation at-will for 1d4+4 thp.
The Armor of Agathys spell grants 5 to 25 thp. (Not to mention doing cold damage w/no action required!)
Dark One's Blessing (Fiend Patron only) grants thp equal to CHA mod plus Warlock level every time you reduce a creature to 0hp.
Tomb of Levistus grants anywhere from 50-200 thp (!!!) based on level, although it incapacitates the Warlock for one turn afterwards. It's a panic button.
The Celestial and Undying Patrons also offer bonus-action healing via class features. (Healing Light for Celestial; Defy Death and Indestructible Life for Undying*) So if a d8 isn't doing it for you as a Warlock, you've got options to supplement your hit points.
*Undying class features are among the weakest in the game: Defy Death will seldom be triggered. Indestructible Life is an inferior version of the Fighter's 1st level feature, Second Wind, which the Warlock gets at 14th level. I don't recommend this.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
I see that now but I know it used to be a d10 wtf man
I don't know about older editions, but in 5e they've been d8.
Think you are having a Mandela effect moment?
I've never seen a d10 used for Warlocks in any edition or variant of D&D.

Maybe it was a d10 in a previous edition, or possibly even in the D&DNext playtest rules?

No, JackOfAllTirades did not forget False Life, he said the Fiendish Vigor invocation, which makes you able to cast False Life at will.
