My warforged fighter is looking for a purpose in life. They were recently released from being a literal tool of war, one of many in a phalanx line of steel bodies.
Now they are wandering the world looking for a purpose and asking people about what theirs is and what a purpose in general is. Could you guys think up responses they could get.
They have no concept of good or evil and only know they wish to be free. They would ask literally anyone they meet that can speak common.
This is a much better question for your DM, as the answers will very very wildly depending on the world that the DM is trying to run.
Also, on a philisophical side, purpose can be anything. Even the very search for purpose can be purpose in and of itself which is a very common answer to the question especally as it pertains to non-humans narratives like your warforged.
My warforged PC went through an arc from lawful neutral to neutral good.
At first they found purpose in following legitimate authority, in the person of a high cleric and later their party leader, an (at the beginning) lesser cleric.
In the midgame they rebelled against the illegitimate authority of a false emperor and became an outlaw with an alter ego.
In the late game, of course, the focus was on saving the world. But my warforged druid also focused loyalty on the denizens of their druid forest.
All I know right now is starting as Chaotic Neutral, as all he wishes is to be far from his old life and free from authority.
That seems like a common approach taken by someone freed from authority. Their first response is to try everything. But maybe later they'll narrow it down.
