Hey,i'm unsure if its where i'm supposed to postore question regarding story elements of future cleric and warlock characters.
The jist is this: for both future characters (one is a cleric of asmodeus, the other is a fiend warlock) i want their end goal to be achieveing the ultimate reward and becoming a pit fiend with out being overly screwed or nagged or instantly demoted upon the pact's completion or the divine intervention's conclusion, do take note its not for power game move of being the ultimate monster, its for "plausable" after credits bit... as in what happens to them after they become level 20 and for their efforts they become a pit fiend.
I assume with the cleric it would be easier to justify as he didnt sell his soul,he chose to worship the lord of the nine and proven his worth, so he ultimately gets asmodeus's blessing and becomes a pit fiend and most likely aids in the war efforts on avernus (better and more likely out come to lead to pit fiendhood is always welcome)
But what of the warlock? I imagine the only way to "plausibely" not be immidately screwed by stipulations of the pact or from your boss breathing down your neck if it would be the case of doing a pact with zariel, and selling your soul for a chance to prove your worth of becoming a powerful pit fiend and joining her cause of defending avernus from fiends, in which case it works for her as in any outcome she gets a new recruit to the blood war, and if he actually proves his worth, she can make him a pit fiend honorguard or something, if he fails well... another lemure or imp for the war effort, your suggestion would be really appricated!, or if you have better versions or likelier version of something like this to occur that does not revolve screwing over the warlock or breathing down his neck would be appricated
Bonus points, if the pact still allows him to work in an adventuring group without being in a tug of war from trying not to screw your teamates to trying not to screw your chances at the big pit fiend dream!
I think you easiest/best route to attaining Pit Fiend Status would be single classed Warlcok to lvl 20.
As you work up levels take Infernal Calling so you can summon devils and contact other plane so you can work with Asmodeus in a closer fashion. Summon Lesser and Greater Demons maybe useful but flavour this as pulling demons away from a border skirmish with Asmodeus' devil forces and then when you hit lvl 20 cast your lvl 9 Mystic Arcanum into True Polymorph, hold it for the duration and bingo...you are a pit fiend.
