I prefer Youtube because I can download it and watch offline if my internet is hating me or going somewhere where they don't have good enough internet to stream in good quality without buffering. It's also easier to then watch at my own convenience since I am often in a different timezone than the livestream and work odd hours, so I watch VOD rather than Live. Also the VOD lets you skip breaks - their break may be 15 mins, but it takes you 5 or less for yours on average, so skipping the break rather than waiting is good.

Personally, I much prefer YouTube's interface (at least on a PC; YouTube on mobile devices and smart TVs is a nightmare riddled with advertisements). On the other hand, it appears that Twitch is much more popular for this sort of content. By the way, You Tube does support live streaming.

I enjoy both, but if I have the time to watch a livestream I'd rather do that so I can have the option to participate in the chat. However no one can watch everything, and there is a LOT of livestreams out there, so I watch plenty of YouTube videos as well - both archived streams and shows that are made directly for the platform.
It's awesome that there are so many more D&D shows out there in all formats, and it speaks to the popularity of our hobby! But that does make it extra difficult for any shows to get an audience and traction. Good luck to you!
I'd love to watch live streams but 2 games a week is more than I can spend at a fixed schedule for this hobby, even when I watch re-broadcasts over youtube I need to FF a lot and end up watching just bits of them.
But Youtube? Yes! Creators like Matt Colville, Cody Lewis (taking20 ), the WebDM or DungeonDudes guys provide countless hours of entertaining and informative content (at least for DMs) that I can watch at my own pace or even on 5 minute bits here and there.
I'm bad at regularly following such shows whether they're livestreams or YouTube videos... But I'm a player in a livestreamed D&D 5e actual-play podcast, Planeslip: Echoes of Creation. It's livestreamed on Twitch (every Wednesday night at 11:00 pm CDT/midnight EDT); the VOD goes up later on YouTube, and in audio form on Soundcloud/iTunes/Google Play/Stitcher. I think our streams get a bit more engagement, though our DM handles that stuff so he'd be the one who sees those metrics.
Pre-recorded because "time". My schedule is usually misaligned with livestreams or is too restrictive to watch at 1x speed. I watch at 1.5x to 2x speed depending on the participants. (If someone has an accent unfamiliar to me, I have to go slower until I'm used to the accent.)

No?” will be my epitaph.
I haven’t done anything to follow you, but I have played for years. I want to know what you want. I can do any character you need for now. Short of long character.

Hey all.
Recently started a D&D YouTube series which sadly under performs compared to all of our other Board Game content on our channel.
I just want to poll people on if they prefer Livestreams or YouTube videos and why?
Thanks heaps!

I enjoy livestream more, but watch YouTube more.

I prefer YouTube because I can actually pause it if something else requires my attention and not miss out on anything
Youtube.
Why? I want to watch what I want when I want.

I prefer live games posted on youtube, because I do not have time to watch when the games are plaied live.
