With MoM, the new Yuan-Ti can be medium or small. Normally Yuan-Ti look like humans but with subtle snake-like features. What would a small one look like though? A snakey halfling? gnome? dwarf? Or would it just be a downsized human?
I know that originally the only playable Yuan-Ti was the Yuan-Ti pureblood, which is the most humanoid of the Yuan-Ti races, but with MotM the race seems to be changed to just "Yuan-Ti", and the description implies that it's very open-ended to how you can look. It seems like, as long as you have some kind of snake features, you can look like whatever you want.
Usually it would be left to the DM's discretion on how harsh the snake features are, but if I were to rule it, a snake-like halfling, gnome, or even dwarf makes perfect sense to me :)
I'm planning on playing a small yuan-ti bard fashion designer who is basically Edna Mode. Most people take her for a halfling... until they notice she never blinks (because snakes have no eyelids).

Yuan-Ti have always been highly variable when it comes to how they look.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
