The Artificer class is now available, and even has the "Create a Subclass" button at the top of the page, but Artificer is not available to be chosen as a base class in the "Create Hombrew Subclass" dropdown menu. I have an idea for a subclass that I'd love to build on DDB to share with my players, but right now that's simply not possible.
Will there be a re-consideration on sub-class homebrew for UA classes? There have been a lot of good ideas and these will bring out a few more who are unhappy with this interpretation. Despite the temporary nature of both the class and sub-class, I'm sure many people would still really love to be able to expand on it.
If they allow for homebrewing of subclasses for an unfinished class, it creates a lot of baggage when that class changes and features dependent on outdated versions clash. It would create more drama than asking people to wait would. You can still export your characters and tweak them off of DDB, and there are some *really* good custom character sheets on the DMsGuild specifically for this class if you need to tweak it that badly.
I don't doubt it. Doubly-so depending on how the classes and sub-classes are stored and referenced. If they are protecting against dropped/missing object references I completely understand. But I don't know how things are coded and was not going to assume. Just ask what is possible.
I have been considering going back to managing the character myself, but I just like DDB so much. It makes things so much better. So I was just hoping I could stay in the light instead of going back to the dark ages. :)
It's over 2 years now....when can we create subclasses for the Artificer?
The revised Artificier was released this year. My guess is that it will be possible to create Artificier subclasses when it will become fully official (i.e., released in a book).
Why wait for so long though? I mean the system clearly is there and everything missing is the "tick" in your System that you allow users to create the subclasses.

Because the Artificier, as is currently, is not definite. If when it comes out there is something different in the core class (for example, different subclass features progression), people may be forced to redo the entire homebrew.

That is intended. For now, it is not possible
*Sad face*
UA just released more artificer updates (and 2 new subclasses) when will dndb be updated with it?
As with all UA releases, it's a week after release, though there can be delays if it's complicated.
