Got some players that recently took down an adult red dragon. The sorcerer(dark magic) managed to carve some scales off of it, and she wants to have some stuff made for her with it. Anyone got any good ideas what kind of loot could be made for a sorcerer with dragon scales?

Hey y'all, I'm Okashido and I'm super into D&D. I like making characters(to the point where I have a doc about 100 pages long filled with character ideas.), am an aspiring actor in college, and also consider myself a storyteller and actor at the table. I enjoy making characters with backstories and watching them play off of other people. I roll with the punches and am a great Improviser. I can DM, but think my strengths lay in being a Player most. Hope we can all have fun and maybe play some games.
Armor isn't really a terribly useful thing for a sorcerer. But any fire-themed item should be good: a Staff of Fire, for one. Or some unique protective item like a cloak that provides the benefits of a Cloak of Protection and fire resistance, for another.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
hmmmmmm ok well if you want go with safer options such as armor or even weapons but if you want to make it more unique maybe tell me the type of sourcer they're playing and rping as?
Given that Sorcerers can't wear armor at all without a feat, about the only use not so far mentioned would be as a material component for the spell Aganazzar's Scorcher. Who knows what they might be able to get people to pay for one of those scales? It's not everyone who can take on a dragon after all.
They are a Dark Magic sorcerer, and they are a little button pushy. They tend to be the most curious and most willing to take risk player, outside of the fighter who just knows they can take most hits but still practices caution.

Another take on it is to ask that player what sorts of items they've had their eye on. Staves? Helms? Necklace? A cool robe. Give them that magic item, as written in whatever book you pull it from, but add a lot of red dragon scales into the visuals and aesthetics of it all.
not scales, but don't forget about the other parts of the dragon...some prior editions had bows made out of dragon bone. I don't think the mundane version had special stats , but I say they add +30 to range to give them some kind of perk. also, two big ol' bile sacs in there that could make a whole lot of alchemist's fire.
if it were my character, i'd make a nice reclining chair out of the scales.
Part will depend on the character level, though I guess if they took down an adult red, they should be pretty up there. You could just put fire into the search bar and refine by items to give you a good list of options.
Beyond that, remember other things they can do besides fire. You could give something that has a fear effect, or something that maybe gives them advantage on a save a couple times a day to mimic the legendary resistance. And they can fly; maybe a carpet of flying made from dragon scales.
A staff of fire made from one of the long wing bones, daggers made from the claws (+1 flame tongue dagger?) cloak of protection and fire resistance, ring of fire resistance, the blood could be used to make potions of fire breathing or fire resistance, wands of fireballs or fear, lenses of the eyes to make goggles of darkvision, necklace of fireballs, potion of flying, potion of invulnerability, potion of longevity, ring of fire elemental command( they should still face a fire elemental to activate/ attune it), staff of striking, winged boots, wings of flying , belt of the dragon (home brew some combination of : +3-5 natural armor, strength (27), con (25), CHA(21), fire resistance, flight, dragons breath spell (PB times/LR) other possibilities), eyes of the dragon (homebrew - +8 perception, darkvision 60’, blindsight 30’) . You should be able to come up with plenty based on a dragon’s abilities.

Dragon Scale Mail? That's probably the most obvious thing you can do with it.

If you put two scales next to each other you could make a fairly effective +1 Toaster. Why eat just boring old plain bread when you can have Toast?!?!
But yeah, armor and weapons is probably a better idea.
Oh! Or you could sew a pad to one side of a scale and have a +1 Seat Warmer! Never sit on a cold dungeon floor ever again!
