Is it possible to purchase a physical copy of Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition player's Handbook and then have it Uploaded or attached to your account in the D&D beyond app Without having to repurchase it again?
It is not. This is a very frequent question, so here's a FAQ about it. Hardcopy Books and You.
However, if you buy the Essentials Kit, you get 50% off a digital PHB and you get a free digital copy of the Essentials Kit adventure.
Yes. You pay your local gamestore for the hardcopy.of the PHB.
You then come here and pay $29.99 for DDB to provide you the service of an electronic copy.
No it isn't free, but that's a business decision made by WotC - they just deal with game design an dproviding physical copies. DDB can sell digital versions with a cut going to WotC for the IP.
The best value is to buy the Essentials Kit. You get an adventure, its electronic version, an electronic version of three follow-up adventures, dice, DM screen, and 50% off the electronic version of the PHB. You're still paying more, but get a bunch more stuff and more bang for your buck.

Nope. You got to buy the whole thing again if you want to build a character since some things are left out intentionally so that you either buy them in bits from the book or just buy the book.
Otherwise. Grab a pencil and some note paper and track your character's progress.
Or get the physical and use the homebrew tools to recreate the character sheet stuff for free.
