Why does it seem like since WotC bought DDB nothing is getting worked on? What happened with the features that we were asking for with the Encounter Builder like being able to change the names of monsters for easier tracking or to being able to mass delete old encounters? You guys used to give weekly updates? What's going on?!
To be honest, I think they put it on hold when they decided that they were doing 1D&D and the VTT. When the VTT releases, there may be more free hands for development. Until then, I think there will be too much for them to handle just making sure the VTT is working before release day. It's possible the extra hands will be directed to 1D&D, so might not be until next year that those kinds of features will get some love.

To be honest they shouldn't be working on One D&D because they are still getting Feedback from us about it. How can they work on it when the rules keep changing? And I am hoping the VTT is a separate entity because not everyone who wants to use D&D Beyond wants to use that VTT.
From my understanding they have some pretty crazy ambitions for what they want from their VTT, and it sounds like it’ll be years before a full release. I don’t see any work on the various tools here (besides the Character Creator) being worked on so long as the VTT is still in early access and that is a very long ways off.
As aside, the pics I’ve seen from the VTT look very PG rated Cartoony. As someone that is well over 18, a VTT that doesn’t include some darker, grittier looks will never be something I sign up for.

So the "VTT" you're talking about is Foundry VTT, right? I'm just trying to make sure I get this straight because I've never heard of this before.

No, Foundry is it’s own thing, an incredibly useful 3rd party app that already works wonderfully and even in combination with DDB, or not. WotC is trying their hand at a new VTT of their own creation, modeled in the Unreal 5 engine. I recommend checking out the link below, which leads to a fan site called Dicebreaker.
My personal opinion is that their goal is too ambitious with the final results unlikely to appeal to a large part of their player base, but I guess we’ll see.

Because a lot of the stuff for 1D&D already has been decided. There's a lot of back end stuff that needs to be done. What's left (IE the stuff dependent on what is being playtested now) is actually pretty superficial.
As for the VTT, it's a part of DDB. I'm not entirely sure why you'd expect it to be a separate entity; it was announced as the future of DDB. I don't think it will be the only aspect of DDB, if that's what you're asking, you will most likely be able to use DDB as is (more or less); it'll be like the encounter builder - except much more prominent and centre-table.

There is one question that has me thinking - if the new VTT handles encounters, does that make the current Encounter Builder on D&D Beyond irrelevant? Or will work resume on making upgrades on it when One D&D / the new VTT has released as not everyone will want to use the new VTT?
I'm still waiting on my checkboxes for Monster Spell Slots and Abilities.

My hope is that the VTT will be dependent on the “my encounters” section to populate its encounters. I also hope I will be able to continue to use the encounter tracker as a separate thing from the VTT since it’s a useful tool and I don’t like VTTs.

I have been a Beta Tester for one of their virtual table back many years ago and also was a alpha playtester during in 2012. Any Encounter Builder WoTC or an affiliate studios may be working on internally they're not ready to give any info, if any.
R&D is a constant work in progress where Devs work on game elements, sent to playtesters for test and review, collect feedbacks and fine tune them, or scrap them entirely.
I ended up programming my own encounter builder several years ago.
I still manually pick the monster but then my builder calculates the number of that monster and will tell me if it is to powerful for my party, rolls initiative, and generates hit points and treasure.

The encounter builder was in beta 3 years ago.
I think they have simply abandoned it.
And as it sit right now your best off just using it to determine terrain
I have it set for a party of 4 x level 5 and one of the recommendations is Adult Blue Dracolich with a CR of 17
