So I've been looking into buying an e-reader recently and hoped to be able to use it for reading through source books etc. I've seen something about Boox products being able to use the D&D Beyond app with some success and was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with another brand that also runs it? Also if you could share your experience using it on a Boox that would also be really helpful.
Don't have any experience with Boox, but if it's an Android device that can install the app it shouldn't be a problem (I use the app on an iPad, but there shouldn't be any meaningful differences). You'll be able to download the books too, so you won't have to be connected in order to read them. It'll have to be a device with some sort of app store, that's all you have to worry about really - an e-reader doesn't cut it.

Want to start playing but don't have anyone to play with? You can try these options: [link].
my opinion - until DDB programs specifically for e-readers (which is probably never), your e-reader gets a standard browser, or your e-reader gets full access to the app store (and then its just more of a tablet than an ereader), you're going to have problems. sourcebooks through the DDB app read well on the phone, although smaller screen than an ereader. imo, if this is your primary concern, i'd just look at tablets.
2. A lot of the text is dark-on-black, and won't show up without extreme screen settings, such as turning contrast to 0 and light color filter to 50 or more, and a lot will have little contrast even then.
3. The interface sometimes requires swiping, and sometimes requires finding hidden menus.
It'd be really helpful to be able to turn everything black-on-white, increase font sizes, and tap to page down.

I've installed it, but have trouble using it.
1. The login screen is animated.
2. A lot of the text is dark-on-black, and won't show up without extreme screen settings, such as turning contrast to 0 and light color filter to 50 or more, and a lot will have little contrast even then.
3. The interface sometimes requires swiping, and sometimes requires finding hidden menus.
