Hey, I'm not sure what these token menu improvement means? Could you tell us more about it?
WOTC_Zac: Sure! When you mouse over the "color" picker on the token menu, or the "pattern" picker for Overlays, there's a nice little hover effect now. And while we were in there, we replaced a wave icon with a different wave icon that we thought looked a little more clear.
And sorry about the confusion - we're still trying to find the right balance between "concise" and "understandable."
I went on the dndbeyond app and saw RTHW for only $13. I checked the website, it's supposed to be $40 (CAD) for the digital version.
LaTiaJacquise: Hey everyone!
Thanks for alerting us to this; it is indeed a mobile bug that we are investigating the cause of.
While we are investigating this, some players may still see the price of RTHW as $9.99 in the mobile app if you don't own it. When you check out, however, you will see the actual price point of $39.99.
Are the Drop-In Encounters similar to Dungeon Magazine where they come with a plot around them and work as full on Modules, or are they just as the name says and they are singular encounters that can be dropped into most Campaigns?
GrandPyromania: To respond to your second question - it doesn't, yet. Drop-in Encounters are like the name implies - encounters you can drop into a game without needing context and with the tokens and map already set up for you. For example, you probably don't need a ton of story/lore around bandits hiding on a trail, ready to ambush your party.
What you're describing is coming later this year in the form of Storied Encounters - which are more like what you describe (more detailed, additional plot/lore, etc), but with the same convenience of the tokens/fog of war/etc. setup in Maps VTT.
The ability to rename a map after it has been added.
WOTC_Zac: Yeah, fair. :) we have a lot of improvements coming to that particular component. Renaming and reordering are definitely on the list.
The ability to edit a campaign note after it has been created.
WOTC_Zac: If you are referring to Journal entries, you're currently using our "MVP", or minimum viable product, of that feature. Click the link at the top of the Campaign Journal to learn more about our release strategy and roadmap for this feature, but I will say you won't have to wait very long for editing. :)
We totally get we can use the overlays as auras, but status effects on tokens and such would be very useful. Also death status effects. The community uses tons of work arounds, but maps is like a few small QoL features away from being S-Tier.
Is there, or are you planning, a tutorial series of videos/walkthroughs for now to get started using the VTT in DND beyond? It's cool all the stuff added over the past few years but I haven't messed with it since early alpha and would need quite the refresher on operating it as a DM.
WOTC_Zac: I'll see what I can do! We have so many new things coming out though, they'll get outdated again fast. In the mean time, I'd encourage you to give it a try again and poke around. Our product philosophy is "Honda Accord, not F-16. Anyone should be able to sit down and figure out how to drive."
WOTC_Zac: Can't get anything past you all. That came out like an hour ago.
We're working on players now. Shouldn't take much longer, but we figured we'd try to sneak this out early before people's weekend games since it was done. :)
WOTC_Zac: Yes, absolutely. We did a quick project to make a bunch of improvements to the Map browser, and we have a project planned to do a bunch of improvements for managing maps.
They're more like change logs which are almost always related to their Maps VTT or small bugfixes to partner content. I haven't seen any mention of the core game system at all since February.
WOTC_Zac: The changelog is for new features, improvements, and bug fixes that are released to the general public. Our work on the new game engine wouldn't go in there because we haven't shipped anything to the public yet.
That being said there's a huge amount of work going on in the background.
It would be nice if it knew not to open behind the sidebar.
WOTC_Zac: Great feedback. We already have a ticket for updating the Z index- which is fancy speak for "the token toolbar should be on top of everything else." Will be getting to that shortly.
It would be nice if the "header" area of the mini menu included the token's AC and speed in addition to name and HP.
WOTC_Zac: Also love the idea of putting more information in there. We have a couple other ideas we're exploring about how to communicate information like that but as a fallback it could live there.
Finally, which you didn't call it out but others have and they might see this thread so this is for you all. We've also heard a lot of feedback about it being significantly larger than the old menu bar, which introduces some new UX problems even though the functionality around when it opens is exactly the same. We're going to do an exploration shortly about how we could slim it down and make it a little bit more compact.
Part of the reason it is the size it is, is we're building in room for things like condition tracking, which obviously doesn't exist now but we needed to design in room for it. so there are just some extra empty spaces right now that will get filled soon. In general I do think that this could get compacted a little bit and it would make for a better experience so feedback heard! We're looking into it.
Charms exist in the game. But they don’t really exist in DND BEYOND, I’ve noticed. Has there ever been any thought of turning them into items for players to easier keep track of?
WOTC_Zac: This is the sort of thing that will be easier to do after our big back end/game engine rebuild project we've been talking a lot about!
