So I need help with building à character for a campaign. I thought it would be cool for him to be a Zhent bounty hunter hires to kill the BBEG of the campaign. However, that patty has no true casters in it. (level 8). The Paladin and the ranger really don’t count for much, since it’s healing and stuff
The only thing for certain is that I want to go 3 level into rouge so I can be an assassin.
Well, Arcane Trickster rogues have that magic aspect, if you don't want to be an assassin. If you really want to be an assassin, I recommend being a Rogue/Ranger multiclass, so you can get spells, and be a Gloomstalker, which makes you deal a ton of damage on your first turn in combat.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
What are your stats, what other options do you have if any?

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
@Drallop12 you might try rogue (assassin) 3 / artificer (artillerist) x for a bounty hunter. Assassin does not specify that the advantage and critical hits are limited to weapon attacks while the artificer infusions / spell casting fluff play into a gadget style of bounty hunter. It makes for a pseudo scifi as magic type of character.
College of Swords bard is another way to go for full caster. If you want Rogue stuff to be included then it plays well into Swashbuckler as both benefit from high charisma, and swashbucklers can get more use from sneak attack and more mobility in combat.
