Will it be linked to your patron in anyway? I'd have a black and red stone dagger for a fiend. Maybe the horn of a demon. A literal leaf dagger with a handle of amber or a colorful crystal/glass dagger for either old one or fey. Something non metal comes to mind.
As far as effects it'll depend. Sounds like your DM is open to magical items so your options are kind of endless. A dagger that gives you absorb elements once per long rest. A dagger that can use the light spell or one that can be thrown and return as a bonus action.
The options are only limited by your imagination...and DM.

I made a deal with a devil to help me with an abusive step father, it gave me the dagger as a solution to my problems.
Said devil is not my patron.
And yes, we use a a lot of magical items in this campaign so pretty much anything is up for discussion.
How about a dagger that had a 1-time only use to eat a soul of the first person it killed. Now your evil stepfather’s soul is trapped in the dagger and you can speak a command word (his name) to have it shed Bright Light for 5 feet and dim light for an additional 5 feet until you speak the command word to turn it off again, and you can use it 1ce/LR to cast a 1st-level False Life on yourself? Or maybe a 1st-level Heroism on yourself, or maybe even Wrathful Smite?
Hi, i am making a new character for a campaign my group are doing, and my new warlock will have a dagger, which are a unique dagger for my character.
beeing a warlock i wont be using said dagger much, its just part of my backstory, but i want it to be something cool.
Anyone got any tips or ideas what effects i could add to it? dmg type/glow/special effect...
My answer depends on your backstory of the dagger, and how it came into your possession.

It sings to you. Furbolg operas and Kobold rap. At very inappropriate times.
