Depends, what do you like more: Races or Artificers? You can I’ll probably get more mileage out of Volo’s IMHO unless you love Artificers or specifically you ant to play on Eberron.
here is the big question. dm or player? for a dm both books are good but the Volos is slightly better, as there are many more stat blocks and there is lore about all the monsters, for a player Volos offers some races, but eberron also has most of the same ones. orcs, hobgoblins, goblins, bugbears, but also has some amazing races ( all of which can be used in any setting) like the Kalashtar, changeling, shifter, war forged and all of the dragon marked races. honestly I think eberron has waaaay more content for a player than Volos, and also the lore and eberron stat blocks can be useful for dms as well. but the best part of RftLW? the artificer. my personal favourite class in the game. it is super fun and a blast to role-play. I bought this book as soon as it came out just for this reason. tbf I also bought Volos as soon as it came out. but yeah. dm-volos, player-eberron

I'm torn between getting Volo's Guide to Monsters, and Eberron. Which one should I get?

Alright. I'm veering toward races.

Different type of books. Volo's for all the monsters and character options. Eberron if you want that setting.
So I'm going towards Volo's.
I'm a player, btw.
