I am building a lvl 3 Ranger character and when it gets to choose the subclass all it will give me the option for is hunter. I have a sub but it does not give my the option for any other type.
There is a link that says to unlock the choices in the market place, I have looked and do not see that option.
By default, there's only one sublclass unlocked for each class in the character builder. In order to unlock more, you need to purchase them in the marketplace, either by purchasing the book that they're found in (Player's Handbook and Xanathar's Guide to Everything for the Ranger) or by purchasing the subclasses by themselves (click on the book in the marketplace for individual purchase options). Note that if you choose to purchase any part of a book by itself, the amount you pay will be deducted from the total cost of the book if you choose to pick it up at a later date: if you buy $9.99 worth of content from a book that costs $29.99, buying the whole book later will only cost $20.
You may select additional subclasses for free by going to the first page of the builder and enabling playtest material to gain access to subclasses from Unearthed Arcana, though check to see if your GM allows them.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I have looked all over the market page, there is no "ranger" data available.
But just to make it clear. You are saying that in order to unlock all of the ranger options, I have to buy a players handbook (even though I have a real one already)?
And if so, What is the point of the subscription? Why would anyone not only pay a subscription but also re-buy . what they already have? Especially if the only point of the builder is to print out a player sheet, which again they already have stacks of?
The builder, is a tool to make it a little easier to build a character. but if what you say is true. the cost is not even close to useful. I already have all the book I need. A useful tool would allow me to just plug in the data, not force me to re-buy the book in digital form just to plug in the data.
And a subscription should allow you to access all of the data available. That is the whole point of having a subscription, even Adobe knows that.
Homebrew in the content yourself (personal use only)
Join a campaign with content sharing available.
The function of the subscriptions (explained here) are:
Hero Tier
Remove all adverts
Unlimited character slots
Save other users public homebrew to your collection
Master Tier
Same as hero tier, plus
Enable content sharing on up to (currently) 5 campaigns (returns to 3 at the end of the year).
As someone who has been using D&D Beyond since it launched, I can say from personal experience that having always-accessible digital versions of the books is immensely useful. Also, it's reassuring that I don't need to maintain a subscription to keep access to them.
There is no listing for Folk hero or sage nor any of the new subclass (they are in the other books obviously)
not sure what the point of Unlimited character slots is. I have a binder that holds all of the characters I have built with the character sheet since 1976, that is, once you start playing with the character there is no point in keeping a copy of the original lvl 1 sheet.
no averts? I do not remember seeing any before I subbed.
as my RL collection of binders has maps, details, drawings and notes of other peoples camps, and homebrew stuff spans over a decade I also do not see the point of collecting something that you may never play again.
Backgrounds such as Folk Hero and Sage can be found here.
All official content can be found in the book it was released in, for example additional subclasses from Xanathar's Guide to Everything can be found here
Unlimited character slots exist for people who use D&D Beyond to manage their character sheets and don't print them out. A lot of people play online and use digital character sheets only, thus being able to keep more than 6 characters on the site is useful to those people.
If you're not seeing any adverts, you may have ad blockers enabled. But I can assure you the site does have adverts that display to free tier users.
And as for homebrew, by adding homebrew to your collection, you're able to use it on your character sheet and share it within your campaign for other players to access and use.
A lot of the subscription features benefit you if you're using the site for it's interactive digital character sheet.
REMEMBER: Wizards Of The Coast does not own DDB, they are two different companies. When you buy a physical book, WotC receives the money you bought it for, not DDB and vice versa. If you want a digital key to get an online book for free because you have the hardcopy book then DDB makes no money because you don't buy off DDB you buy off WotC, so please stop making threads about this issue. DDB needs money to continue helping people and servers aren't cheap.

I don’t print out my Character sheets, I play directly off of my tablet, and manage my characters electronically to reduce my paper consumption and carbon footprint. We play in person, I just go paperless. Having unlimited character slots is immensely valuable to me.
Also, one thing you have to remember is that the company that publishes D&D is not the same company that owns this website. This website is an online bookstore, and they have free services like the character builder for us to use with the products we purchase from this website.

Folk Hero and Sage are not subclasses, they are backgrounds. Those can be unlocked by purchasing the backgrounds from the PHB.
If you want more Ranger subclasses, there are some in the PHB for purchase, but also in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything as well.
If you do not wish to repurchase an entire book, just getting the background you want and the Ranger subclass you want could be as inexpensive as $4.00 US.
