I've recently gotten back into DnD 5e, and I thought of this amazing character that I wanted to play, but alas... There is no choice to be a warlord! I've started building one using a method from this:
One of the strengths of 5th edition D&D is that it doesn't need the 1,000 different classes of 3rd edition, to allow you the flexibility to play the character you want.
It sounds to me like you're looking for a Fighter, with an interesting background and from there on, it's just role-playing.
Can you explain the amazing character you thought of and we can perhaps help you with ideas on building it?
The Warlord fit really well inside the 4e universe. (A martial/support).
There isn't a "Warlord" class, but there are a couple of SubClasses that are like the Warlord.
I'd recommend reading up on the Fighter:Battlemaster and Bard:College of Valor. Either of these (sub)classes should be able to serve your purposes or making a character that feels like a Warlord.
The Feat: Martial Adept, can give you 2 Battlemaster powers with a single 1d6 superiority die per short/long rest.
Tangentially, D&D Wiki is pretty widely derided as a silly place for overpowered and unnecessary homebrew, mostly serving to confuse newcomers who think it is legit content.
My DM was working on something for it, and he saw it he felt it was a little bit better than what he was going to do, so he's obviously letting me some leeway, but he does have restrictions.
The closest thing to the 4e Warlord is the Purple Dragon Knight subclass for Fighters from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, but even then it falls short in some key places.
Eventually you'll be able to homebrew a subclass, but that's a ways out. Until then, keep pressuring Curse to allow for custom class creation and check out the Purple Dragon Knight.

This, plus the Inspiring Leader feat.
Warlord is just a support-oriented Fighter; it doesn't make sense as a stand-alone class for 5e. If I remember right, some of the Battle Master's maneuvers like Commander's Strike are even taken from the 4e Warlord class.
Also note that Bardic Inspiration can use words instead of music, so it's easy to work in thematically with this concept. There's a few Bard spells that would also be appropriate and useful, like Heroism and Healing Word. I wouldn't say a 1 level dip in Bard is necessary, but it brings some nice extra support tools to the table.
Also coming up in Xanathar's will be the College of Swords which might be suitable. But definitely the Inspiring Leader feat. That's a very undervalued feat and combines well with a class that uses Charisma as a primary stat.

Hello!
I've recently gotten back into DnD 5e, and I thought of this amazing character that I wanted to play, but alas... There is no choice to be a warlord! I've started building one using a method from this:

I'm not sure of how effective it will be, so any help would be appreciated!
Cheers,

I agree with Stormknight,
