If you mean the subraces on the dandwiki, they aren’t fake precisely, but they are homebrew as is the tortle base race provided there. If you want to use them, you could homebrew them here. You just can publish them since they are someone else’s work.
It is illegal to post other people's homebrew without permission. You can recreate for your own personal use, but you cannot publish it or share it publically.
D&D Beyond are not Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and only WotC can decide on making official subraces in future - which is unlikely. D&D Beyond have no say in the matter.

If you search desert tortle, dndwiki.com is the first result.
That said, dndwiki is good for one thing, and one thing only: getting ideas to use for home brew. Thing is, *their* home brew (dndwiki, that is) is generally ridiculously overpowered, and is absolutely not official, and won't be allowed in Adventurers' League or at non-home brew tables.

Just to make a distinction with a contribution to a thread that petered out almost eight months ago, dndwiki's home brew can sometimes be ridiculously overpowered. It is good for general inspiration as to what some home brewers are up to, but also provides some stuff that works as presented without any significant balance concerns.
Being absolutely not official, and not allowed in Adventurers' League or tables that don't consider home brew ... that's not something exclusively ascribed to material on dndwiki. Rather it applies to _all_ homebrew and I think singling out dndwiki, implying these sanctions are somehow specific to dndwiki, seems to denigrate the site in a way that's not necessary.
Fair point about all homebrew vs dndwiki. The thing with dndwiki is that since it's nearly always the first search result, it's important for newer players to view everything on the site with a gimlet eye until they know better. Also, because a good portion of information on the site is not official and is not identified in any way by the 'wiki', it cannot be used as a reliable reference for players learning the game.
True, the wizards of search engine optimization do privilege DnDwiki in a way that's probably not the best rabbit hole to introduce new players; and so maybe more grains of salt should be emphasized. I think you're right that an experienced player can see it for the resource that it is (and it's overreaches), whereas a new player might feel empowered in a way that may prove problematic to a table.

you sure its illegal?...like there's a law against someone posting my homebrew that i haven't gone out and copyrighted? I say rubbish. If my homebrew is subject to the OGL, they certainly can repost it. (although in the case of a Tortle specifically, don't think that's possible). If my homebrew has WotC IP, there's still scenarios where they can repost it. If they go out and sell a document with my homebrew in it, it still depends.

You don’t have to copy write it. If someone else created it and published it on the wiki (or anywhere else) that is enough to claim it as theirs. If you recreate it here for personal use without publishing it, that is absolutely okay. If you publish it here as your own homebrew, that is theft of intellectual property. If you make a homebrew but do not publish it, and then someone else publishes it first, then they own that unless you can prove they stole it in court.

uh sure - not saying that isn't true. everything on here is already subject to a license. you post a homebrew on here, its subject to a license. And that license the homebrew is subject to allows sharing.
I have, but i also think that every homebrew on here is subject to the CC BY-SA 3.0 license.... follow the site's Terms of Service. Here's the skinnY:

Why are there no tortle sub-races? Razorbacks, Softshells, and Desert
Discord: DemonSheWolf#4038, roll20: DemonSheWolf, twitch: demonshewolf13
This is not a bug or anything DDB support can fix.
Because the people who designed them decided they would not have sub races.
What were you hoping to get as an answer?
There’s a website that lists Tortle sub races. I fell for it too.
DemonSheWolf, those sub races are fake. They don’t exist. Sorry.
Extended Signature! Yay! https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/off-topic/adohands-kitchen/3153-extended-signature-thread?page=2#c21
